In addition to social and environmental factors, individual personality traits have intricately linked with maladaptive behaviour. Thus, the purpose of this article was to review the link between individual personality traits and criminality. A systematic review was conducted to obtain information regarding the link between individual personality traits with criminal behaviour in the Sage, Web of Science, APA PsycNet, Wiley Online Library, and PubMed databases. The results indicate that individual personality traits that contribute towards criminality are (i) psychopathy; (ii) low self-control; and (iii) difficult temperament. As an overall impact, the review is expected to provide in-depth understanding of the link between individual personality traits and criminality; hence, greater consideration will be given to the dimension of personality as a notable risk factor of criminal behaviour.

Abstract This study aimed to correlate, compare and identify the family, personal and demographic variables that may predict behavioral problems in adolescents. A total of 300 adolescents participated, 230 with behavioral problems (177 girls and 53 boys; M= 14.00 years; SD=1.24) and 70 without (47 girls and 23 boys; M=14.09 years; SD=1.33). Data was collected through questionnaires and inventories completed by adolescents and analyzed using Pearson’s correlation, Student’s t-tests and multiple binary logistic regression. Results showed low self-control as a risk factor and social skills and low frequency of physical abuse and maternal neglect as protection factors. The model evaluated had a reasonable predictive power (79.9%, specificity 93.9% and sensitivity 34.3%). The findings contribute to the prevention of behavioral problems in adolescents.

Road accident statistics has been reported increasing over the years and become one of the significant death contributors worldwide. In response towards this issue, appropriate countermeasures need to be outlined. Proposing a preventive plan requires comprehensive understanding on factors behind the occurrence of road accident. Therefore, this review paper aimed at investigating the factors behind the occurrence of road accident focusing on the technical factors. A review over five academic databases such as Emerald, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science and Wiley Online Library has been conducted leading towards an overall finding of 2462 related records. After screening and reviewing the records, only 38 studies were included. The result of the review indicated several technical factors in terms of road and vehicle faulty toward the occurrence of road accident.

Since December 2019, COVID-19 has aroused global attention. Studies show the link between obesity and severe outcome of influenza and COVID-19. Thus, we aimed to compare the impacts of obesity on the severity and mortality of influenza and COVID-19 by performing a meta-analysis. A systematic search was performed in MEDLINE, EMASE, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Web of Science from January 2009 to July 2020. The protocol was registered onto PROSPERO (CRD42020201461). After selection, 46 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were analyzed. We found obesity was a risk factor for the severity and mortality of influenza (ORsevere outcome = 1.56, CI: 1.28-1.90; ORmortality = 1.99, CI: 1.15-3.46). For COVID-19, obesity was a significant risk factor only for severe outcome (OR = 2.07, CI: 1.53-2.81) but not for mortality (OR = 1.57, CI: 0.85-2.90). Compared with obesity, morbid obesity was linked with a higher risk for the severity and mortality of both influenza (OR = 1.40, CI: 1.10-1.79) and COVID-19 (OR = 3.76, CI: 2.67-5.28). Thus, obesity should be recommended as a risk factor for the prognosis assessment of COVID-19. Special monitoring and earlier treatment should be implemented in patients with obesity and COVID-19.

Main Findings: It was revealed that today’s adolescents who actively use social media have the proclivity for submission, rejection of responsibility and leadership, describe themselves as being selfish, self-centered, having an inclination towards rivalry and dominance, while their agemates perceive themselves as being friendlier and less inclined to dominance. This paper explains that the active use of social media by the adolescents today is driven by their need for communication, high levels of anxiety and determination to preserve their individuality. Teenagers who actively use social media are sensitive, impulsive, and expressive, have low self-control, maybe confrontational, tend to be self-indulgent and seek benefits in different life situations. The active use of social media is related to a strongly expressed keenness of the teenagers to communicate, while at the same time they have low motivation for spiritual self-fulfilment in the area of public activity. Applications of this study:  The applications are that the obtained results may be used in the psychological and pedagogical practice of work with adolescents, their parents, and teachers, as well as for professional training and qualification upgrade of teachers and psychologists. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study is that it allows for a deep psychological analysis of determinants and predictors of problems and difficulties faced by today’s teenagers.

The article is devoted to one of the vital problems of modern society, the problem of Machiavellianism.  It is noted that manipulative forms of interaction between people become common, and it can lead to a tendency to use the manipulation by an increasing number of people and, in its turn, to the loss of openness, sincerity, and congruence of communication. The results of an empirical study of Machiavellianism and its interrelationship with personality traits in young age are discussed. The study is based on a dispositional approach to the person, suggesting that it consists of reliable, stable, interrelated elements (properties, traits) that determine its internal essence and behavior. Differences in the behavior of people are explained by the differences in the intensity of personality traits. The article shows that adolescence is one of the most sensitive ways to consolidate manipulative strategies in the behavior of a person. The obtained results prove the existence of a interrelationship between Machiavellianism and a number of personality traits, according to the theory of R.B. Cattell. Among such personality traits are communicative (closed), regulative (low normative, low self-control behavior), emotional (rigidity) and intellectual (radicalism). Knowledge of the personal profile of a personality prone to Machiavellianism in adolescence will allow continuing the study within the framework of studying ways of preventing extreme manifestations of manipulative behavior and widening the range of constructive patterns of youth behavior.

Abstract Introduction Neuropathy is one of the most common complications of diabetes, which causes many problems for diabetic patients. Thus, the aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of neuropathy among type 1 diabetic adolescents by systematic review and meta-analysis. Materials and methods This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis, which reviewed articles published from 2001 to September 1, 2018. The search process was carried out in the Google Scholar search engine and domestic and international databases such as Magiran, SID, Iranmedex, IranDoc, Medlib, PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Springer, Wiley Online Library, Web of Science, Ebsco and Cochrane using Persian and English keywords based on MESH conformity. All the research steps were carried out by two members of the research team who were familiar with systematic reviews and meta-analysis data, using the software CMA. Analysis of meta-regression and the use of a random effects model were introduced and analyzed. Findings When a systematic search was carried out on the reviewed articles, five of them were included in the meta-analysis phase. The sample size was 484, and the prevalence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in type 1 diabetic patients was 28.2% [confidence interval (CI) = 19.5–39.1]. The findings of the meta-regression analysis showed that the DPN prevalence rate decreased with increasing age (Q = 5.77 p = 0.016), and the results of more recent studies showed an increase in the DPN incidence rate (Q = 20.62, p < 0.001). Conclusion The findings of the present study revealed that although the prevalence of neuropathy in diabetic adolescents was not high, the prevalence was significant. Considering the increasing prevalence of diabetes and its impact on the health status of patients, appropriate interventions should be conducted to prevent diabetes and subsequent diabetic neuropathy.

Theoretical and empirical research has linked variation in parental and peer socialization patterns as well as criminogenic traits, particularly psychopathy and low self-control, to criminal involvement. Findings from this body of scholarship, however, have generally been produced without adequately controlling for genetic confounding. The current study addresses this gap in the literature by analyzing data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health using a genetically informative research design. This study employs monozygotic difference scores analyses in order to examine the effects of psychopathic personality traits (PPTs), low self-control, and nonshared environmental factors on involvement with criminal behavior while controlling for genetic factors. The results indicated that of the four outcomes examined, PPTs were only associated with involvement in violent behavior. In addition, the results revealed that delinquent peers was the only nonshared environmental factor associated with any of the outcome measures.
