The main objective of this article was to identify the conditions for the use of smartphones and mobile applications in Poland in the second half of 2018. The scope of the present analysis was limited to a selected sample of more than 470 respondents, and it examined the group of the most active users of smartphones and mobile applications. The author adopted the CAWI (computer associated web interview) method, which was previously verified by a randomly selected pilot sample, in his study. The obtained results were compared with the findings of other studies. They indicated that users of smartphones and mobile applications in Poland do not differ in their assessments from users in Europe and around the world. In this context, the key implication for researchers is the identified level of development of the use of smartphones and mobile applications in Poland at the end of 2018. The main limitation of the research was the selection of the research sample, which consisted only of members of the academic community. The scope of this article aimed to fill a gap in terms of the quantitative and qualitative methods that are applied to examine the use of mobile devices and mobile software. At the same time, this study creates the foundations for further research on intercultural differences. It is important to note that the present research sample needs to be extended beyond the academic community for the research results to be fully generalized.

ABSTRACTThis research has a theoretical approach based on the stoic principle that happiness and self-fulfillment are natural consequences of right attitudes. It is possible to change the will to suit the world and live sick and happy, in peril and yet happy, stating an individual desire completely autonomous and deterministic. This presupposes not an apathetic fatalism, but a moral resistance to better face the hardships of life. When faced with setbacks of destiny a stoic believes in an extreme personal freedom to ally with this almost absolute determinism. These are congruent principles to health care models for strengthening and supporting people in chronic conditions. A literature review of three important works of the Stoic School (Encheiridion and The Discourses, by Epictetus, and Moral Letters to Lucilius, by Seneca) was performed. The search words "health, disease, choice, discipline," with its English correspondents, were utilized for the selection of texts, interpreted by discourse analysis. It was sought a contribution to Public Health towards the management of chronic conditions, the silent epidemic of XXI century. As results some principles are presented converging to notions of selfcare and shared care for chronic conditions, primarily focused on the autonomy and discipline of users to manage their health. It is proposed the application of these principles to treatment planning in programs for chronic conditions, whether for ill patients or in special conditions of health, such as adolescence, disabilities, pregnancy, etc. Under this point of view these principles could be extended to health professionals because their work routine also features a chronic condition.

At the present time, thanks to the fact that the world works in the information space with a large amount of information, it has become one of the most important measures for that, in a short time, for a short period of time. Therefore, for informing the world, only one computer connection became insufficient, it is very important to expand the connection through mobile devices, to use and develop mobile applications. Necessary information technologies for the integration of mobile communications are actively developing. This article discusses the widespread use of mobile applications for the development of mobile communications and their classification by structure and composition. Consider the features

This paper evaluates the features of mainstream programming paradigms. Imperative, object oriented programming and functional programming concepts are considered here. This is an effort to identify the programming paradigms which consume less resource from mobile devices. Designers usually depend on the programming languages, language oriented programming design is in current practice. Choosing appropriate programming paradigms during the mobile application design is not in practice now; Failure to use the best approaches for mobile computing from programming paradigms will cause mobile applications to consume more mobile resources. Imperative paradigm concepts such as inheritance, creating redundant objects, unnecessary constructors, recursion, strings concatenation, thread synchronization, using global variables and abstract methods results in redundancy, memory leaks, stack overflow, low execution speed and consumes more memory. These features are relatively not suitable for mobile software development. Functional paradigm concepts such as higher order functions, tail recursion, lazy evaluation, referential transparency, parametric polymorphism, and list comprehension principles are suitable for mobile software development as they consume less memory and or use less processing power. Using appropriate paradigms will optimize the resource utilisation of mobile applications in mobile devices.

Evaluating mobile applications and devices is particularly challenging given the variability of users, uses, and environments involved. This chapter introduces usability evaluation methods (UEMs) for mobile applications. Over the past decades various usability evaluation methods have been developed and implemented to improve and assure easy-to-use user interfaces and systems. Since most of the so-called ‘classical’ methods have demonstrated shortcomings when used in the field of mobile applications, they were broadened, varied, and changed to meet the demands of testing usability for mobile applications. This chapter presents a selection of these ‘classical’ methods and introduces some methodological variations for testing usability in the area of mobile devices and applications. It argues for a combination of both field evaluation methods and traditional laboratory testing to cover different phases in the user-centered design and development process.

Nowadays, MLM Company around the world are highly developed, and companies especially in Indonesia have been using a system of direct sales to the consumers. The career structure in MLM Company has been very much acknowledged. However, not all MLM distributors are able to achieve the line of succession. The purpose of this research is to analyse the main causes of career success in MLM Company. This study uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. The selection of samples is carried out using a snowball technique which retrieved as many as 198 distributors registered at the Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) Company in Medan, namely; PT. Herbalife Indonesia, PT. Orindo Ayu (Oriflame), PT. Sophi Martin Indonesia, PT. K-link, PT. Tupperware Indonesia and PT. Amway Indonesia. The result of the study finds that entrepreneurial competency and committment simultaneously have a significant influence to the career success of MLM distributors. Moreover, the study finds a partial relationship between the entrepreneurial commitment and motivation that has a significant effect on career success, while the entrepreneurial competency does not partially influence the success of career significantly. The results also show that entrepreneurial motivation is a moderating variable that is able to strengthen the influence of the entrepreneurial commitment to career success, as well as between the entrepreneurial competency and career success.

Mobile devices are the most popular kind of computational device in the world. These devices have more limited resources than personal computers and battery consumption is always under user's eye since mobile devices rely on their battery as energy supply. On the other hand, nowadays most applications are developed using object-oriented paradigm, which has some inherent features, like object creation, that consume important amounts of energy in the context of mobile development. These features are responsible for offering maintainability and flexibility, among other software quality-related advantages. Then, this chapter aims to present an analysis to evaluate the trade-off between object-oriented design purity and battery consumption. As a result, developers can design mobile applications taking into account these two issues, giving priority to object design quality and/or energy efficiency as needed.

AbstractThe World Health Organization has issued international instructions for certification and classification (coding) of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as cause of death. Central to these instructions is the selection of the underlying cause of death for a public health preventive purpose. This article focuses on two rules for this selection: (1) that a death due to COVID-19 should be counted independently of pre-existing conditions that are suspected of triggering a severe course of COVID-19 and (2) that COVID-19 should not be considered as due to anything else. The article argues that observance of the first rule may not always lead to an optimal selection from a preventive point of view and that in the future the ascertainment of an animal source of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) would make it possible to reconceptualize ‘COVID-19′ and create a zoonotic classification code by means of which a factor of a greater preventive value could be selected than what is currently possible.
