The coordination relationship between land urbanization and population urbanization is crucial for achieving sustainable development under economic transition. Moreover, the balance between land urbanization and population urbanization is essential to guarantee the urbanization process of an entire city. This paper empirically analyzes the interaction between land urbanization and population urbanization in Nanchang from 2002 to 2017 based on the coupling coordination model (CCM). The impacts of the coordination degree on coordinated development are quantified by multivariate linear regression (MLR). The results show the following: (1) The indices of land urbanization and population urbanization in Nanchang showed an upward trend, and therefore the coordination degree in Nanchang increased significantly from 2002 to 2017. (2) The coordinated development of urbanization underwent two stages: disordered and moderately disordered. (3) The urban population proportion and the supporting capability of agricultural production had a positive impact on coordinated development. Meanwhile, the results also show that per capita education expenditures and the per capita public green area had negative impacts on the coordination degree, while economic development and the urban industrial structure were positive contributors to the coordination degree. Finally, this paper proposes that policies should be formulated to achieve coordinated development of urbanization. It can be concluded that the results regarding coordinated development of urbanization can help decision makers formulate effective measures to achieve coordinated development in the future.

The coordinated development of industrialization and urbanization has become a common goal and concern of developing countries. At the same time, measuring the relationship between them is becoming a research hotspot. With reference to value engineering, we constructed a dynamic coordination model to analyze the degree of coordination between urbanization and industrialization in China. During the study, three primary indicators were used to assess the level of industrialization in China, namely: economic development, industrial structure, industrial enterprise. We also use demographic urbanization rate to evaluate the level of urbanization. Subsequently, a dynamic coordination model was established using panel data of China collected from 1978 to 2017. Through the dynamic coordination degree model, the changes in the degree of coordination between urbanization and industrialization in China from 1978 to 2017 were analyzed, and the reasons for the fluctuation of coordination degree were further explored. The results show that: (1) The coordinated development of urbanization and industrialization can be divided into six phases, which is consistent with the major reforms in China's rural and urban; (2) The degree of coordination fluctuated more obviously during 1991–1995, which reflected the unstable state of China in the process of coordinated development of urbanization and industrialization; (3) Most of the time, industrialization is ahead of urbanization, while with rapid economic development, urbanization, and industrialization, are gradually synchronizing in China. The results are of great significance for promoting the coordinated development of urbanization and industrialization and realizing the sustainable development of the city.

This paper estimates the quantity of CO2 emissions in 30 provinces of China covering the year from 1999 to 2010, combining static and dynamic panel data model.Meanwhile, we use instruments to control the endogeny of the two models, analyzing the impact factors of China's CO2 emissions comprehensively and objectively. The result shows that a inverted U-shaped relationship is found between per capita GDP and CO2 emissions per capita .And it means that the Environmental Kuznets Hypothesis is verified in China. And energy consumption structure, industrial structure and urbanization have a positive impact on China's CO2 emissions. The CO2 emissions of last period have a crucial impact on the emissions of current period.

As the major form of urbanization, urban agglomeration integrates urban resources, adjusts industrial structure, narrows the gap between urban and rural areas, enhances urban function, strengthens urban competitiveness, and promotes the strategy of regional sustainable development. Based on the panel data of 10 cities in Ha-Chang urban agglomeration from 2000 to 2014, this paper establishes an evaluation index-system of population and land urbanization quality level, and analyzes the coordination degree, spatial heterogeneity, and spatiotemporal evolution of urbanization, through using the methods of range standardization, entropy weight model, and coupling coordination models. Results show that the quality of population and land urbanization was increasing gradually during the study period. However, the coordination degree between population and land urbanization rate is decreasing. The comprehensive level of population and land urbanization increasing yearly, from low-level coupling coordination reverse to high-level coupling stage. The quality differences between the population and land urbanization of the ten cities of the Ha-Chang urban agglomeration are significant. The radiation function of large-sized cities and the regulation of medium-sized cities are not strong, and the coordination degree of small-sized cities is low. In view of the coordinated status of the Ha-Chang urban agglomeration, differently size cities should propose corresponding urbanization development strategies to enhance the main function of the urban agglomeration.

Abstract As two important strategies to reduce adverse climate effects, mitigation and adaptation actions can interact, resulting in synergies or trade-offs. Using data from 30 Chinese provinces from 2008 to 2017, this study employs a panel vector autoregression (PVAR) model to study the interactive relationships between mitigation and adaptation. Moreover, based on the coupling coordination model, this paper investigates the coordination degree of mitigation and adaptation in China. The results show that 1) there is Granger causality between mitigation and adaptation, and the positive impact of mitigation on adaptation is greater than the negative impact of adaptation on mitigation. Therefore, an integrated approach that considers these interactions can help enhance synergy and create a win-win situation. 2) The dynamic relationship between mitigation and adaptation in China has reached a barely balanced stage, and there are large regional differences. 3) Compared with the mitigation evaluation value, the adaptation evaluation value has a more positive effect on promoting an increase in the coordination degree. These findings can contribute to the formulation of effective regional sustainable development strategies.

In this study, a coordination model based on the data of urban population and built-up areas from 2006 to 2015 is used to assess the relationship between population urbanization and urban sprawl across 654 cities in Mainland China. For analysis, 654 cities are divided into five categories (small city, medium city, large city, super city and mega city) and the relationship between population urbanization and urban sprawl is divided into four types (rapid growth of population, rapid expansion of land, shrinkage of population and land and coordinated development between population and land). The results show that 60.6% of cities are rapid expansion of land, 18.5% are rapid growth of population, 14.1% are shrinkage of population and land and only 6.9% of cities are coordinated development between population and land. Small, medium, large and super cities were characterized by rapid expansion of land, while mega cities featured rapid growth of population. The size of the cities decreased mainly because of the shrinkage of people and land while it increased because of the rapid expansion of land. The cities with shrinkage of population and land, and rapid growth of population are mostly distributed in the east of the Hu Line.

In recent years, a noticeable contradiction has emerged between the disorderly sprawl and fragile climate environment of many cities, especially in mountainous cities. Therefore, this paper respectively constructed evaluation indicators for urban sprawl sustainability (USS) and climate change adaptability (CCA). Next, a coupling coordination degree model was used to measure the coordinated development of USS and CCA. Finally, this paper analyzed the coordinated development type of USS and CCA in the Chongqing metropolitan area from 2007 to 2017. The results of this paper show that USS and CCA have gradually shifted to coordinated development in the Chongqing metropolitan area during the study period. However, there were obvious regional differences in the type of coordinated development in the Chongqing metropolitan area. The coordinated development degree of USS and CCA in nine districts ranged from 0.635 to 0.721 in 2017. It can be divided into three types: slightly coordinated development with lagging CCA; slightly coordinated development with lagging USS; and moderately coordinated development with lagging CCA. Those districts should give priority to the use of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), and multi-center and multi-group approaches to enhance the coordinated development between USS and CCA, which is also helpful for mountainous cities in China and other countries.

The degree of coupling and coordination between the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and the medical service industry crucially requires improvement by promoting the development of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry through industrial structure upgrading to narrow the gap between them. First, this article uses the coupling coordination degree model to measure the coupling coordination degree of the Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturing industry and medical service industry; then, it theoretically analyzes the mechanism through which upgrading the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry's industrial structure can improve the coupling coordination degree. Finally, we empirically test the impact of upgrading the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry's industrial structure on the coupling and coordination degree between it and the medical service industry. The main conclusions are as follows: (1). The quantile regression model shows that having an advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing industry positively affects its coupling and coordination with the medical service industry; (2). A threshold regression model is tested, and it is found that only when the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry reaches an advanced level can it significantly promote joint and coordinated development with the medical service industry; (3). Rationalizing the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry structure will inhibit a high level of coordination between it and the medical service industry and their coordinated development.
