The psycho-didactic approach in education is becoming more and more popular. Its supporters emphasize the great values that are associated with the implementation of this approach to various fields of science and school subjects. The greatest value of the psycho-didactic approach is supporting the personal growth of the learner by respecting the developmental factors involved in each subject’s learning processes. Psycho-didactics could also be used in the design of core curricula and their implementation in the field of religious, ethical, and moral education. By supporting personal development through moral and religious education, it is possible to simultaneously influence the agencyof each learner. Personal agency in self-development, as well as in religious and moral development, is one of the greatest challenges for modern education and one of the most significant issues of positive mental health advancement in the field of education. Within psycho-didactics, it becomes possible to foster every student in an individual way, therefore all methods and techniques used in the psycho-didactic approach are focused on the student’s needs.

<p>The Mental Health Continuum - Short Form (MHC-SF) is a self-reporting instrument for assessing positive mental health, which is understood as symptoms of positive affection, self-development and social connectivity. The present article describes the adaptation and validation of the MHC-SF for the Brazilian Portuguese language in a sample of 686 adults, which included 72.7% female participants and had an average age of 33.9 (SD= 11.30) years. The various methods employed to assess the MHC-SF psychometric properties (principal component analysis, factor analysis, Item Response Theory and network analysis) indicated that a unidimensional structure is sufficient to represent the structure of the instrument and its high reliability. In addition, the results showed that the individual-centered aspects of mental health are more easily manifested relative to the social-oriented aspects. The Brazilian version of the MHC-SF is a valid and reliable instrument for the assessment of positive mental health.</p>

Background: We assessed the associations of sleep, physical activity and sedentary behaviour with positive mental health (PMH) in the multi-ethnic population of Singapore. Methods: The Singapore Health 2 study is a nationally representative cross-sectional survey among residents aged 18–79 years. A PMH instrument was administered to 1925 participants to obtain total PMH and six sub-component scores. Self-rated sleep duration, sleep quality, sedentary behaviour and physical activity were assessed. Multivariable linear regression analyses were conducted. Results: The mean age of the participants was 40.1 (SD 14.3) years. Sleep duration (≥8 h/night: β = 0.17,95% CI: 0.02–0.32; 7–< 8 h/night: β = 0.17,95% CI: 0.03–0.30 versus <6 h/night, p = 0.002), sleep quality (very good: β = 0.45,95% CI: 0.29–0.60; fairly good: β = 0.20,95% CI: 0.06–0.33 versus very/fairly bad; ptrend < 0.001) and physical activity (high: β = 0.19,95% CI: 0.05–0.32; moderate: β = 0.15, 95% CI: 0.03–0.27 versus low; ptrend < 0.001) were directly associated with total PMH. Sedentary behaviour was not significantly associated with PMH. Sleep duration, sleep quality and physical activity were directly associated with the PMH sub-components ‘emotional support’ and ‘personal growth and autonomy’. Conclusions: Duration and quality of sleep and physical activity were directly associated with PMH in an urban Asian population. These findings support incorporating sleep and physical activity interventions to improve population mental health.

Background: This study investigated association of religious affiliation with positive mental health (PMH) and mental disorders. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 2270 adults was conducted in Singapore. Participants reported their religious affiliation to Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Taoism, or other religions. A PMH instrument measured total PMH and six subcomponents: general coping (GC), emotional support (ES), spirituality (S), interpersonal skills (IS), personal growth and autonomy (PGA), and global affect (GA). Lifetime history of mental disorders was assessed with the Composite International Diagnostic Interview. Results: Total PMH (mean ± SD) was 4.56 ± 0.66 for participants with any religion versus 4.12 ± 0.63 (p = 0.002) in those without any religion. After adjustment for all potential confounders, the mean difference in total PMH between these groups was 0.348 (95% CI: 0.248–0.448). Having any religion was significantly associated with higher scores for S, GC, ES, IS, but not with PGA, GA or mental disorders. Compared with individuals without any religion, total PMH and S levels were significantly higher across all religions. Additionally, Christianity was significantly associated with higher ES, Taoism with higher GC, Buddhism and Islam with higher GC, ES and IS, Hinduism with higher IS and Sikhism with higher ES and IS. Conclusion: Our results indicate that religious affiliation is significantly associated with higher PMH, but not with mental disorders in an Asian community setting. In addition, different religions showed unique patterns of association with PMH subcomponents.

The aim of the presented article is to draw attention to the considerations related to self-formation, which are more and more vivid in the pedeutological discourse. Constant professional development in the teaching professions determines the effectiveness of teaching as students’ achievements depend mainly on teacher’s skills. Contemporary expectations towards teachers are definitely different than years ago. It results from changing reality, which imposes the necessity to constantly increase one's own competencies, not only the professional ones, but mainly those related to personal development. Personal growth is a significant aspect of professional development. Managing one's own development (self-creation) assumes that a man is a self-creator and the space of self-creation is a new method of experiencing the world and one's place in it. The article analyses the determinants of the self-creation process and its structure as well as the transgressive behaviours involved in the process. The analysis of the teacher's functioning as a co-creator of himself is embedded in the trend of the concept of humanistic, emancipatory and cognitive psychology

This study aims to identify, analyze, and develop a curriculum of religious moral education in kindergartens. The method used in this research is the R&D method (research and development) with the technique of taking data from the study of documentation, observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that: 1) the developed religious moral education curriculum was more focused on habituating positive behavior, instilling independence and discipline, and fostering faith and loyalty. These three developments applied to routine activities at school; 2) the implementation of curriculum development in religious moral education carried out in three stages, namely the preparation, development, and reporting stages; 3) the development of religious moral education curriculum has advantages, namely: the existence of a curriculum that leads to character education and self-development, the number of religious activities, professional educators, moral and religious education materials integrated with other aspects, facilities, and infrastructure that are complete and neatly arranged.

The authors ground the necessity to clarify the terminological and phenomenological specifics of the terms: “self-fulfillment”, “personal development”, “self-development”. The attention is drawn to the formal usage of these terms in the pedagogical science and the ambiguous interpretations by different scientific schools of psychology. The research of the manifestation of self-fulfillment and personal development is performed based on a selection of 126 teenagers, engaging the “Personal growth” scales from the methods of psychological well-being by C. Ryff, the “Personal growth” scales from the methods of “Life aspirations” by E.Deci, R.Ryan, as well as the author’s method of directivity to self-fulfillment and method to reveal the significance by V.Y, Kotlyakov. For the first time the authors’ questionnaire to measure the self-development in different life spheres is employed. The analysis of the empirical results allows to make a grounded statement that the contemporary teenagers have a prevailing egocentric directivity of self-fulfillment and reveals as well the importance of the interest to the moral aspects of being and the interiorized values of personal growth for the harmonious self-fulfillment of the teenager.

BACKGROUND Social media (SM) influence almost every aspect of our lives by facilitating instant many-to-many communication and self-expression. Recent research suggests strong negative and positive impacts of SM exposure on youth mental health, however, there has been more emphasis on harmful relationships. OBJECTIVE Given the limited research in benefits of SM to mental health, this qualitative study explored lived experiences of community-dwelling youth in Singapore to understand how SM use can contribute to youth positive mental health (PMH). METHODS Using an interpretative epistemological approach, 25 semi-structured interviews and 11 focus group discussions were conducted with male and female youth of different ethnicities aged 15 to 24 years residing in Singapore, recruited through purposive sampling from the community. We conducted inductive thematic analysis and concept mapping to address the research aims. RESULTS We found that youth engaged in a wide range of activities on SM – from connecting with family and friends to participating in global movements, and these served as avenues for building PMH. Based on participants’ narratives, our analysis suggested that youth PMH could be influenced by three features of SM consumption – connection with friends and their global community, engaging SM content, and its valuable as an outlet for expression. Through these, pathways leading to five PMH components, namely, (i) positive relationships and social capital, (ii) self-concept, (iii) coping, (iv) happiness, and (v) other relevant aspects of mental health (for example, positivity and personal growth) were identified. CONCLUSIONS The study results highlight the integral role of SM in the lives of todays’ youth and indicate that they can offer opportunities for positive influence, personal expression, and social support; thus, contributing to youth PMH. The findings of our research can be applied to optimise engagement with youth through SM and enhance digital modes of mental health promotion. CLINICALTRIAL Not applicable

Abstract. Background: Suicide ideation is a prerequisite for suicide attempts. However, the majority of ideators will never act on their thoughts. It is therefore crucial to understand factors that differentiate those who consider suicide from those who make suicide attempts. Aim: Our aim was to investigate the role of protective factors in differentiating non-ideators, suicide ideators, and suicide attempters. Method: Inpatients without suicide ideation ( n = 32) were compared with inpatients with current suicide ideation ( n = 37) and with inpatients with current suicide ideation and a lifetime history of suicide attempts ( n = 26) regarding positive mental health, self-esteem, trust in higher guidance, social support, and reasons for living. Results: Non-ideators reported more positive mental health, social support, reasons for living, and self-esteem than suicide ideators and suicide attempters did. No group differences were found regarding trust in higher guidance. Suicide ideators and suicide attempters did not differ regarding any of the study variables. Limitations: Results stem from a cross-sectional study of suicide attempts; thus, neither directionality nor generalizability to fatal suicide attempts can be determined. Conclusion: Various protective factors are best characterized to distinguish ideators from nonsuicidal inpatients. However, the same variables seem to offer no information about the difference between ideators and attempters.
