This paper presents a case study of the village of Mrkovi in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro, showing the importance of landscape identification and assessment in planning the revitalization and development of Mediterranean rural settlements. The research revealed the methods of identification and evaluation of different landscape types. Moreover, it showed how such an approach could considerably contribute to the preservation of the space’s identity and quality by taking into account the existing characteristics of the space or the relationship between cultural and natural heritage. The identification of the landscape types was followed by the evaluation of individual elements and assessment of vulnerability in relation to the space’s natural, cultural, and visual quality. The first step in the process of preserving the elements that contribute to the landscape’s identity was the spatial identification of the cultural pattern of traditional terraces with drystone walls. The results of analysis indicate a high risk of degradation of the basic landscape value. The effects of future interventions in the space, especially the planned construction of a tourist resort, can be mitigated if they comply with the guidelines related to the rational use of the space and delimitation of the construction zones. This paper points out the importance of a responsible attitude and planned approach regarding the cultural and natural landscape of Mediterranean rural settlements.

Abstract The paper elaborates on the relationship between land cover changes and transformation drivers, by analysing the dynamics that took place between 1990 and 2010 in Mt. Matese area (Italy). Mt. Matese is an interesting case study which was included as a pilot area in the Italian Strategy for Inner Areas. Drivers related to land cover changes include population characteristics, the agricultural and production system, tourist offer, location and settlements dynamics. Land cover changes and the dynamics of studied drivers are analysed in-depth, through a descriptive and multivariate analysis. Results highlight the difficult situation of the study area for many drivers. However, the slow changes in land cover and the potentialities offered by the natural environment, as well as by the agriculture and tourism sectors, outline some development prospects. The paper outlines the current scenario in the area and provides useful references for future policies aimed at setting up this area as National Park and at implementing the Strategy for Inner Areas.

"The commercial developments lining the coasts of the Arabian Peninsula that have emerged within the past decade have various implications for the environment, economy, and society as a whole. In particular, this paper is interested in the relationship between residents’ perceptions of the coastal landscapes that are being created and the effects of such extensive developments, including their demands on water. Less than 50 years ago, this arid region consisted of a few tribes who collected water from nearby wells and springs. After the rise of the oil industry in the 1970s, however, the United Arab Emirates’ growing population and burgeoning economy introduced desalination plants to sustain the people and irrigate lush landscapes, which require significant amounts of energy and infrastructure. Located in Ras Al Khaimah, Al Jazeera Al Hamra is one of the only full standing abandoned villages in the Gulf region and carries a rich history and once critical coastal location. This paper will profile the village as a prototype for coastal developments in arid environments. Inspired by the traditional practices of the region’s inhabitants, this paper introduces a design model that integrates several factors. These include the types of visual references represented in the Gulf region, people’s contemporary lifestyles, water saving techniques, and the effects of these proposals on the surrounding environment."

AbstractIslam has arranged marital affairs as well as possible, including the prohibition of marrying two female siblings at the same time or what is called jam'u bainal ukhtain. Although the ban was clear, the phenomenon of the marriage of jam'u bainal ukhtain still occurred between a man who married two female siblings at once, namely between A (L) and N (P) his brother, then I (P) his sister in the village Sukasenang Banyuresmi District, Garut Regency. This study aims to determine the background of the marriage of jam'u bainal ukhtain, the process of conducting the marriage jam’u bainal ukhtain, and the legal consequences of the marriage of jam’u bainal ukhtain which occurred in Sukasenang Village, Banyuresmi District, Garut Regency. The research method used in this study is a case study by collecting data through interview techniques and literature studies. Based on the data obtained, it was found that the cause of the marriage of Jam'u bainal ukhtain was the mistaken belief regarding adat ngarunghal (overtaking), along with the lack of religious knowledge and lack of education. In addition, identity concealment was also found. The process of the first marriage between A and N is carried out openly and has fulfilled the pillars and terms of marriage, then the second marriage between A and I is carried out in a closed manner because it is clearly prohibited and unlawful. This form of marriage results in illegitimate marriages between A and I, so that the relationship between husband and wife is done with zina. The ARanak born from the marriage only has civil relations with the mother and family of the mother only, and there is no nasab rights and inherits each other between A and AR.Keywords : jam’u bainal ukhtain, marriage is not legal, civil relationsAbstrakIslam telah mengatur urusan perkawinan dengan sebaik-baiknya, termasuk adanya larangan menikahi dua saudara kandung perempuan sekaligus atau yang disebut dengan jam’u bainal ukhtain.

Landscape perception, attitude and its impact on humans are the topics of modern geography study. Taking the grassland of central Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as an example, the perception and attitude of grassland tourism landscape and their relations are analyzed by components analysis and multiple regression analysis. It is revealed that tourists perceive grassland landscape from three dimensions: national culture, tourism hospitality and natural landscape. All of the tourists' assessment for the perception and attitude to grassland tourism landscape are positive. The analysis of the relationship between tourists landscape perception and attitude showed that only seven out of twenty landscape perception items influence tourists' landscape image, satisfaction, recommendation intention and the willingness to revisit. The article verified that selectiveness was one of the most important characteristic of tourism landscape perception. Thus the advantage and disadvantage factors in the development of tourism destination could be distinguished according to the assessment of the landscape perception. As a result of the research, the demand of the tourism market has been made so clearer that it will provide a useful reference to the healthy development of grassland tourism industry.
