Festivals and events are important activities related to enhancing the image of the destination. Modern festivals are spread all over the world, not only changing the rhythm of daily life but also bringing more development possibilities for the places where these festivals are held. In order to learn more about tourists’ experiences in emerging events, a detailed study of famous hot air balloon festivals was conducted in Taitung City, Taiwan. Based on the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) model, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationship among these three constructs, namely stimulus: perception of marketing strategies and motivation, organism: positive emotions and satisfaction and response: revisit intention. Face-to-face surveys were conducted on-site in 2014 and 2018, a total of 896 valid questionnaires were collected from tourists who visited the Taiwan International Balloon Festival. SPSS Macros PROCESS was used to examine the measurement model. This study confirms the application of the S-O-R model in predicting tourists’ revisit intentions in the context of emerging events in the tourism industry. The survey results show that whether in 2014 or 2018, tourists’ satisfaction and tourists’ positive emotions can mediate the relationship between tourists’ perception of marketing strategies (or tourist’s motivation) and tourists’ revisit intention. Moreover, only in 2018, tourists’ visiting frequency can moderate the relationship between satisfaction and revisit intention.

Islamic tourism has gained popularity among tourists and a huge potential for Malaysia to explore in the tourism industry. Muslims travelers are inclined to adhere to Islamic  teachings which may, directly and indirectly, impact their decisions concerning leisure and travel plans. This study aims to examine the relationship linking tourists' memorable tourism experience attributes and their revisit intentions to Islamic tourism destination. Using convenience sampling, a total of 384 survey questionnaires were distributed to respondents visiting Islamic tourism attractions in Shah Alam and were used for data analysis. Regression results revealed that three Memorable Tourism Experience attributes have significant relationships with tourists’ revisit intention. These include hedonism experience, meaningfulness experience and social interaction. Of these three attributes, hedonism proved to have the most significant impact on tourists’ revisit intentions

Purpose The environmental impact of excessive use of natural resources such as energy and water in the tourism industry has increased significantly. Thus, it is crucial to investigate the notion of frugality in this industry. Particularly, this study aims to examine the effect of green marketing strategies (eco-labelling and environmental advertising) and hotel guests’ green attitude towards frugality in the context of the Malaysian hotel industry. Furthermore, the mediating effect of green attitude is also examined. Design/methodology/approach Stimulus-organism-response theory was used to develop the research framework. The data were collected via a self-administered survey questionnaire, which yielded 150 complete and usable responses. A partial least square-structural equation modelling approach was used to validate the proposed model. Findings The results of this study revealed that environmental advertising and eco-labelling, directly and indirectly, affect frugality. Moreover, the link between green attitude and frugality also was supported. Furthermore, data supported the mediating effect of green attitude in the relationship between green marketing strategies and frugality. Practical implications The findings from this study can benefit hoteliers who are targeting frugal and environmentally conscious consumers. Moreover, the hoteliers will be able to understand the drivers of frugality in the tourism industry. It can assist them to formulate better marketing strategies in attracting and retaining frugal consumers. Social implications The findings from this study offer a number of important social implications for society, the local government and the city and tourism council. Particularly, understanding the strategies towards frugality can pave the way towards the formation of a “less consumption” community. Moreover, it will serve as the guideline for designing the green and sustainability campaign for the nation. Originality/value This study is among the pioneers to investigate the issue pertaining to frugality in the tourism industry context. This study examines new linkages such as the indirect effect of green marketing strategies towards frugality. Moreover, the mediating effect of green attitude in the relationship between green marketing strategies (eco-labelling and environmental advertising) and frugality is comparatively a new link.

The goal of this study is to show how satisfied tourists is of supreme significance to the tourism industry, particularly as it affects the future of a nature-based destination and explores the relationship among destination image, service quality, perceived value, tourist satisfaction, word-of-mouth, and revisit intentions of tourists. The 292 survey data was obtained via a structured questionnaire from tourists who visited the Haor region, Bangladesh and structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to test the hypothetical paths. Six hypotheses were accepted, and one is rejected. Tourism stakeholders can find important knowledge and they can satisfy tourists, which is likely by improving destination.

This study explored the relationships among sport tourists’ team identification, sport nostalgia, and revisit intention. In addressing the research goal, survey data were collected from 487 sport tourists to professional baseball games in South Korea, which were then analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results revealed that team identification positively affected sport nostalgia, and sport nostalgia had a positive effect on revisit intention. Further analysis showed team identification had an indirect influence on revisit intention, suggesting full mediation by sport nostalgia. This study provides greater insights into how sport tourists’ team identification contributes to sport nostalgia and how the two constructs collectively influence revisit intention. The findings can be used in developing more effective marketing strategies in sport tourism.

Factors of tourism into one of the largest and fastest way to grow an economy is suitable for a country that would like to expand it to include Indonesia. The development of tourism through promotion and maximum service is already undertaken by the authorities to attract domestic and foreign tourists in Indonesia. One of the attractions which are experiencing an increase in visiting Goa Pindul. The problems in Goa Pindul are increase tourists revisit intention, but the facilities and infrastructure are less well. The purpose of this research was to study the relationship between e-WOM, destination image, perceived value, and return to visit in the tourism industry. Sample techniques used in this research is purposive sampling using accidental sampling. Respondents who used as many as 200 respondents on travelers who already visited one time, aged 17 years, and using the internet to searching for information about Goa Pindul. Data analysis techniques used are PLS-SEM and Sobel test. The empirical results from PLS-SEM showed that e-WOM positive and significant impact on destination image, perceived value, and return to visit. The destination image has a positive and significant impact on perceived value but on return to visit insignificant. Perceived value positive and significant impact on back to visit. Sobel test findings that effect of e-WOM on arrival to visit through perceived value significantly.

Domestic tourism in Malaysia has contributed significantly to the country's economy and made a sustainable impact on the tourism industry. Langkawi is one of the most visited tourists' attractions in Malaysia which is well-known for island tourism and Geotourism. This study explores the relationship of tourists' motivation, destination brand engagement and domestic tourists' revisit intention in Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, Malaysia. The study also examined the mediating role of destination brand management and destination trust between tourists motivation and revisit intention. This study used a quantitative approach to explore the relationships among dependent, independent and intervening variables. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed, and 212 usable questionnaires returned and utilised for further analysis. For analysis purpose, the researchers decided to utilise SPSS version 25.0 for descriptive statistics and PLS-SEM version 3 for inferential analysis. The results found that tourists' motivation significantly influences destination brand engagement and destination trust for a direct relationship. Results also found that destination brand engagement and destination trust significantly affect tourists' revisit intention in Geopark Langkawi, Malaysia.

PurposeThis study aims to empirically examine the factors that are likely to affect tourists’ attitudes to revisit, which, in turn, influence their revisit intentions towards beach destinations.Design/methodology/approachData were collected through a personal-administered survey of 601 tourists from three leading beach destinations in Bangladesh.FindingsThe empirical results indicate that perceived destination risks affect neither tourists’ attitudes to revisit nor their revisit intentions. However, tourists’ satisfaction and destination image directly affect both their attitudes to revisit and their revisit intentions.Practical implicationsThe findings of this study contribute to the extension of the body of knowledge, especially in beach tourism settings where the proposed relationships have yet to be studied.Originality/valueCoastal-based beach tourism is one of the least researched areas in tourism literature. The relationship between tourist attitude to revisit and revisit intention is exclusive in tourism literature.

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide. Over the last decades coffee has become a specialty product. Drinking a coffee beverage entails several mixed factors, such as pleasure, experience, lifestyle, and social status. It can also provide an emotional pick-up, both mentally and physically. Only a few studies have explored the motives and emotions of coffee consumption and not consumption. There is limited understanding of consumers’ emotional approach towards coffee, and what influences a positive and negative inclination towards coffee consumption. This research fills the current research gaps by addressing three main questions: (i) What are the emotions and habits of coffee consumption? (ii) What are the motives of coffee consumption and non-consumption? and (iii) How relevant is the coffee health impact perception of consuming or not consuming coffee? The research activities include 467 face-to-face interviews with consumers. Interviews are performed in two different countries, Italy and Portugal. Data elaboration includes a principal component analysis carried out to identify latent factors on motives and emotions of consumption in both national groups, and to explore the relationship between the main emotions and consumers’ habits and socio-economic characteristics. Results support that consumers have positive emotions from coffee consumption. Perceived emotions are energy, satisfaction, and pleasure. Non-consumption is mainly driven by taste and fear of coffee’s health impacts. There are limited differences in the countries analysed. Socio-economic characteristics limitedly influence perceived emotions and consumption motives. To conclude, consumers are increasingly interested in new coffee products. Understanding the functional and emotional factors of coffee consumption contributes to supporting new coffee product development and commercialisation.

Cultural and creative tourism is emerging in tourism industry with the potential to be sustainable as an important carrier of traditional culture. This study adopts stimulus–response theory in a cultural integration perspective to investigate how tourists’ cultural memories, cultural contact, and attitude to culture affect their revisit intention. With the questionnaire survey responses from 651 tourists and structural equation modeling method, it was found that tourists’ cultural contact affected their revisit intentions directly and indirectly through cultural memory. Attitude to culture played critical moderating roles in the effects of tourists’ cultural contact on their cultural memory and revisit intention, but it had no significant impact on the relationship between tourists’ cultural memory and their revisit intention. This study indicates that cultural memory dominates tourists’ behavioral decisions, while attitude to culture highlights different effects at different influence paths. The findings provide marketers and managers with strategies for the sustainable development of cultural and creative districts.

The aim of this conceptual article is to propose a comprehensive model that explains the impact of different relational variables on tourists’ behavioral intention (i.e., revisit intention and recommendation intention) and the relationship between those relational variables. Based on the existing studies and findings, the proposed model is strongly related with destination personality, self-congruity as well as tourists’ emotional experience and behavioral intention. Particularly, self-congruity performed as a potential mediator between destination personality and behavioral intention; meanwhile, the model incorporated tourists’ emotional experience as a potential moderator between self-congruity and behavioral intention. This conceptual article makes significant contributions to tourism literature by proposing an integrated model. It serves as a reference for tourism marketing practitioners who can derive insights into the potential economic advantages such as tourists’ loyalty and tourists’ behavioral benefits in the form of revisit intention and recommendation intention which can result from the effective implementation of marketing strategies.
