Purpose. Investigate the effect of complex microalloying with nitrogen, titanium and aluminum on the structure and properties of cast steels at elevated temperatures. Methodology. Methods of optical microscopy were used for metallographic analysis of the microstructure of steels. The mechanical properties at room and elevated temperatures were determined for static tension, crease and impact bending. Results. The technology of carbonitride strengthening of silicon-manganese production steels has passed pilot testing. The results of mechanical tests indicate a favorable complex effect of nitrogen, titanium and aluminum on the properties of 20GSL steel in the entire range of operating temperatures. Scientific novelty. For the first time, the effect of nano-dispersed carbonitride phases (TiN, AlN) on the mechanical properties of low-alloy silicon-manganese steel of the GSL type at elevated temperatures (250-4500C) has been investigated. Practical value. The use of carbonitride technology for strengthening silicon-manganese heat-resistant electric steel provides an increase in operational reliability, an increase in the service life and reduce the metal consumption of equipment for power engineering. Keywords: technology, electric steel, heat resistance, carbonitride reinforcement, microalloying, steel 20GSL.

Recently, X80 grade UOE pipes have been planned to apply to steam injecting oil sand recovery systems to increase the volume of steam to be injected and lowering installation cost. The pipes for systems are subjected to high temperature for a long time, such as 350-C, for 20 years. Before real applications of the pipes, it is important to ensure the reliability of the pipes during and after long-term operations. In this study, in order to establish simulation conditions for 350-C × 20 years of operation, the change in microstructure and resulting mechanical properties of X80 grade pipes after a long-term exposure at elevated temperatures were investigated. Then, mechanical properties of the pipes subjected to the established simulated condition were examined. Change in the microstructure was quite small after exposure of 400-C and lower temperatures. Tensile strengths of the base metal and seam weld after up to 400-C of heat treatment can be arranged with the Larson-Miller parameter composed with temperature and holding time of the heat treatments. Therefore, heat treatments at 400-C for shorter than 20 years can be simulation conditions for the operation condition of the systems. As a result of mechanical tests simulating long-term exposure, satisfied performance of X80 grade pipes can be obtained.

The chemical interaction of disulphochloride aromatic compounds with nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) in the presence of combined nanosized powders of metal oxides (ZnO and Al2O3) was studied for the first time. Vulcanization of the prepared blends has been induced with two methods: by irradiation of gamma rays (D=300 kGy) and by pre-heating in the hydraulicpress and then subsequent irradiation (150 oC x 5', 300 kGy). In order to activate the crosslinking process, a combination of nano-oxides ZnO and Al2O3 were used. The surface of the nanocomposite was studied by using scanning electron microscopy. The mechanical properties of modified blends were studied and then compared with controlling sample (vulcanized with sulphur) and analyzed by the mechanical tests in aggressive environments after thermal aging. The study found that the use of 1,3-disulphochloride benzene with nano oxides produces cured materials with good resistance to aging and provides high service properties in air, seawater, and oil-bearing solution.

The article presents results of selective laser melting of Inconel 718 superalloy. It was studied phase microstructure of the material obtained by selective laser melting and also the material after heat treatment. The phase composition of the initial powder material, the specimens after selective laser melting before and after heat treatment was studied. The effect of heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of the specimens was shown. It was studied the mechanical behavior of the manufactured specimens before and after heat treatment at room and elevated temperatures as well. The results of impact tests and fractography of the specimens are presented. Mechanical tests showed that the specimens after heat treatment have decent mechanical properties comparable to hot-rolled material. Fractography showed that the obtained material is characterized by ductile failure mode with local elements of brittle fracture.

Influences of Ca addition on microstructures and mechanical properties at room and elevated temperatures up to 300oC have been investigated for EZ43 (Mg-4%RE-3%Zn)-(0~1.2)%Ca permanent mould casting alloys, based on experimental results from optical micrography, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and mechanical tests. With an increase in Ca content, yield strength is increased gradually at all temperatures, whereas elongation shows a decreasing tendency. High level of tensile strength around 150MPa is maintained until 250oC in the EZ43-0.8Ca and EZ43-1.2Ca alloys, meaning that Ca is very effective for improving elevated temperature strength of the Mg-RE-Zn alloy. The microstructural examinations reveal that Ca refines the a grains markedly, increases discontinuity of Mg12RE network intermetallic compound and dissolves into the Mg12RE phase. The refined a grains and Ca-containing Mg12RE with higher thermal stability are considered to be responsible for the improved mechanical properties at room and elevated temperatures for the EZ43-Ca alloys.

The present paper describes research on the mechanical properties and related dislocation structure of CdTe, a II-VI semiconductor compound with a wide range of uses in electrical and optical devices. At room temperature CdTe exhibits little plasticity and at the same time relatively low strength and hardness. The mechanical behavior of CdTe was examined at elevated temperatures with the goal of understanding plastic flow in this material and eventually improving the room temperature properties. Several samples of single crystal CdTe of identical size and crystallographic orientation were deformed in compression at 300°C to various levels of total strain. A resolved shear stress vs. compressive glide strain curve (Figure la) was derived from the results of the tests and the knowledge of the sample orientation.

Aim: The aimed study was to evaluate the influence of silver nitrate on surfacehardness and tensile strength of acrylic resins.Materials and methods: A total of 60 specimens were made from heat polymerizingresins. Two mechanical tests were utilized (surface hardness and tensile strength)and 4 experimental groups according to the concentration of silver nitrate used. The specimens without the use of silver nitrate were considered as control. Fortensile strength, all specimens were subjected to force till fracture. For surfacehardness, the specimens were tested via a durometer hardness tester. Allspecimens data were analyzed via ANOVA and Tukey tests. Results: The addition of silver nitrate to acrylic resins reduced significantly thetensile strength. Statistically, highly significant differences were found among allgroups (P≤0.001). Also, the difference between control and experimental groupswas highly significant (P≤0.001). For surface hardness, the silver nitrate improvedthe surface hardness of acrylics. Highly significant differences were statisticallyobserved between control and 900 ppm group (P≤0.001); and among all groups(P≤0.001)with exception that no significant differences between control and150ppm; and between 150ppm and 900ppm groups(P>0.05).Conclusion: The addition of silver nitrate to acrylics reduced significantly the tensilestrength and improved slightly the surface hardness.
