The main objective of the present study is to formulate and evaluate semi-solid dosage forms of Hypericum mysorense for its wound healing activity. The stem of Hypericummysorense was extracted by continuous hot percolation/ soxhletationusing methanol as solvent and was evaluated for its phytochemical property, in-vitro antimicrobial and in-vitro antioxidant activity. Using this methanolic extract, semi-solid dosage form(ointment) was formulated. Ointment was prepared using 2% concentration of the extract by fusion method using emulsifying ointment.Hence, the ointment containing 2% methanolic extract of Hypericummy-sorensewas evaluated for its wound healing activity using excision wound model. The effect produced by the extract ointment, in terms of wound contracting ability, wound closure time and histopathological characteristics were comparable to that of a standard drug povidone iodine ointment. Therefore, the present study concluded that the Hypericum mysorense at 2% concentration of the methanolic extract formulated as an ointment showed a better wound healing formulation for better patient care and pharmaco economical.

The present experimental study was designed to evaluate the wound healing activity of methanolic extract of Smilax wightii A. DC. on incision and excision wound models in Wistar albino rats. The parameters studied were wound breaking strength, wound contraction area, epithelialization period, granulation tissuewet, dry weight and hydroxyproline content in incision wound model, percentage of wound contraction and period of epithelialization in excision wound model. The rats were administered topically with 100mg/kg b.wt. (low dosage), 200mg/kg b.wt. (moderate dosage) and 500mg/kg b.wt. (high dosage) of methanolicextract of Smilax wightii (MESW). The activity of the extract treated groups were compared with that of the control 1% Spirit. Framycetin sulphate 0.2% w/w was used as the standard drug. In incision wound model, there was a significant increase in the wound breaking strength in all the experimental groups treated withMESW than that of the control. Similarly, significant (P<0.001) decrease in wound contraction area and period of epithelialization were also observed in the test group animals treated with MESW and the standard drug treated groups when compared to that of the control. , a significant increase was observed in granulation tissue wet and dry weight and hydroxyproline content in the test groups treated with MESW compared to the control. In exicision wound model, there was a significant increase (P<0.01) in the percentage of wound contraction and decrease in period of epithelialization in the experimental groups treated with 200mg/kgb.wt. (moderate dosage) and 500mg/kgb.wt (high dosage) of MESW. The extract treated groups showed significant improvement in all the wound healing parameters of incision, and excision wound models.

The antioxidant activity was performed by DPPH Scavenging activity method and Hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity method. Ascorbic acid was taken as standard in both methods. DPPH and Hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity methods of 100µg/ml extracts shows better % inhibition as compared to control and 50 µg/ml extracts. In DPPH Scavenging activity % inhibition of 100µg/ml methanolic extracts was 60.72% and in Hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity it was found to be 26%. Wound healing activity was performed by Incision wound model and Excision wound model. In incision wound healing model, the tensile strength of the 4% test group and the Neosporin ointment treated group were comparable to each other. Tensile strength of 2% extract ointment showed lesser 3.38 gm/mm2 but significant increase in tensile strength compared to the control group 2.91 gm/mm2. The tensile strength of 4% test group was found to be 3.44 gm/mm2. Thus both concentrations of the extract as well as the standard drug showed a significant increase in tensile strength on the 9th day. In excision models the animals treated with the 4% w/w KPME ointment were shown to healed completely as compared to 2%w/w which was also at the complete healing stage as compared to control treated and the standard drug (Neosporin) treated group. The epithelization period of standard group and treated group was less in comparison with that of simple ointment base treated groups. The percentage of wound contraction was much more with the 4% w/w extract was similar to that of Neosporin treated group. 2%w/w treated group of animals showed significant wound contraction. In antimicrobial activity, both antibacterial and antifungal potentiality was evaluated. In mic of antibacterial methanolic extract of Kigelia pinnta inhibit strains of E.coli and strain of Shigella boyelii, Salmonella aureus and Baccilus subtitis were found to be completely resistant. In mic of antifugal activity, all the fungal strain were inhibited by methanolic extract of Kigelia pinnata. These findings may provide a lead for further investigation of the overall pharmacological aciotns of Kigelia pinnata methanolic extract in more appropriate model. AbstractBackgroundDiabetic wound are the major problem of society because of its delay healing of wound in hyperglycemia patient. The target of this study need to know the gallic acid compelling synergistically wound healing in diabetic animals as it is available in fruit extract or is more effective in given pure form in diabetic animals.MethodsThe wound healing effects of fruit extract Terminalia bellerica Roxb. and gallic acid were evaluated in experimentally induced hyperglycemic animals. In this investigation, excision and dead space wound models were used. The contraction wound %, re-epithelialization days, area of scar, histopathological examination of tissue, hydroxyproline level and weight of tissue granuloma were evaluated in this study.ResultsTerminalia bellerica fruit extract (400 mg/Kg) and gallic acid (200 mg/Kg) have been ingested by orally in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. They were founded significantly (p<0.05) improved percentage wound contraction and decreased the size of scar area and days of re-epithelialization in excision wound model. Also, they were improved the level of hydroxyproline level in diabetic rats as compared to diabetic control group in dead space wound model. Standard drug vitamin C was also founded significantly improved wound healing activity in rats. These results suggested that treated groups accelerated wound healing activity in diabetic rat.ConclusionsThe observations and results obtained in the present study indicated the wound healing efficacy of fruit ethanolic extract and gallic acid in diabetic animals. Yet, the wound healing effect was increasingly reported with gallic acid.

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate in vitro antioxidant activity and wound healing activity in Triticum aestivum (wheat grass).Methods: T. aestivum commonly known as Wheatgrass had a wide range of health benefits among the young grass of common wheat plant components includes chlorophyll, flavonoids, and Vitamins A, C, and E. Wheatgrass is used in Folklore medicine for treatment of skin diseases and wound healing. In our present study, petroleum ether, ethanol and aqueous extracts of T. aestivum have been evaluated for in vitro antioxidant activity and wound healing activity by 1,1- diphenyl, 2 Picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity, and Chick chorioallantoic method, respectively.Results: The results of both the assay showed that all the extracts of T. aestivum have significant antioxidant and wound healing activity on dose-dependent manner.Conclusion: The wheatgrass has antioxidant and wound healing activity.

Three composite sponges were made with 10% of curcumin and by using polymers, namely, chitosan and gelatin with various ratios. The chemical structure and morphology were evaluated by FTIR and SEM. These sponges were evaluated for water absorption capacity, antibacterial activity,in vitrodrug release, andin vivowound healing studies by excision wound model using rabbits. Thein vivostudy presented a greater wound closure in wounds treated with curcumin-composite sponge than those with composite sponge without curcumin and untreated group. These obtained results showed that combination of curcumin, chitosan and gelatin could improve the wound healing activity in comparison to chitosan, and gelatin without curcumin.

The occurrence of superficial wounds remains one of the most significant problems all the time among different types of household injuries. Up to 40 % persons annually have such damages of the skin like abrasions, scratches, cracks, suppurations, cuts, bedsores, and others. The problem of choosing a suitable drug arises acutely, since most pharmacists consider the issue of treatment by themselves. Patient’s referral to hospital departments for doctors advise remains minimal. Pharmacy specialists carry out pharmaceutical care and perform a personal analysis due to the given initial information about the mechanism, place of occur, size of wound and stage of the process of wound healing. Considering previous experience in fulfilling customer needs, they select optimal remedy, determine the majority of choice and thus, may be identified as the sales leaders. As for January 2021, the range of topical drugs used for the treatment of wounds numbered 270 trade names according to the State registry of medicines of Ukraine. They included 62 types of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Antimicrobial (antiseptic), anti-inflammatory, decongestant, protective and emollient action properties are underlined in their pharmaceutical inserts. It is similar for most of the medicines that are available on the Ukrainian pharmaceutical market. After all, their effectiveness to satisfy a patient need is as different as the price point. The choice of the optimal in composition and rational in the dosage form causes certain difficulties among the available wide range of medicines. Registrated semi-solid wound-healing drugs are represented by three groups of ATC classification: D03 – drugs for wounds and ulcers, D06 – antibiotics and chemotherapeutic drugs for use in dermatology, D08 – antiseptic and disinfectant drugs (table 1). Ointments predominate among semi-solid dosage forms with range 67.3 %, creams  –26.5 %, gels – 10.2 %, liniments – 6.1 %, and jellies only 2.0 % of the market. 59.2 % of semi-solid wound-healing drugs are produced by domestic enterprises, and 40.8 % – by foreign manufacturers. The recommendations for the use of semi-solid drugs were distributed as follows: for the first phase of wound process – 48.9 %, for the first and second phases – 12.2 %, for the second phase – 10.2 %, for the second and third phases – 26.4 %, for the third phase – 2.0 %. The article summarizes the results of a questionnaire of pharmaceutical specialists on the available and free sale wound-healing medicines among registered on the Ukrainian market, that are most promoted and recommended. The purpose of our work was to single out available and free sale wound-healing medicines among registered on the Ukrainian market, that are most promoted and recommended by pharmaceutical specialists. This would help to highlight the real picture of sales, to analyze the components of leading products and, as a result of additional research, to propose a model for the complex pharmaceutical development of a new wound-healing medicine in a rational dosage form with safe and effective active ingredients of plant origin, and, consequently, competitive for pharmaceutical manufacturers. The list of registered medicines was composed in accordance with the data from the State Register of Medicines of Ukraine (registrated trade names). The total number of respondents was 176. Questionnaire survey was the main method of information’s collecting: 46 respondents were interviewed individually, 130 persons of the target audience – by electronic form. Questionnaire contained the same questions for the individual survey and online one. Questionnaire contained particular situational tasks and questions related to the practical experience of the pharmaceutical specialists: 12 questions, among which 5 questions provided an answer in detail. Whole data was analyzed systematically and statistically. 342 reviews on 36 medicines trade names were received while answering the question about the drug’s recommendation for quick healing of abrasions and scratches. Various drugs promoting rapid injury healing («Bepanten®» ointment, «Levomekol» ointment, «Pantestin-Darnitsa®» gel and «Riativnyk®» cream) determined in the most mentioned requests. We found out that most pharmaceutical specialists chose semi-solid dosage forms containing dexpanthenol for light burn wounds healing («Bepanten®» cream and ointment, «D-panthenol», «Pantecream», «Pantexol-Jadran», «HepiDerm-Zdorovye»). Pharmaceutical specialists recommend «Contractubex®» and «Solcoseryl» mostly to improve wound healing and minimizing the development of a cosmetic scar. Only 1/3 of respondents would recommend to a pharmacy visitor to exam skin defect by doctor or cosmetician and get reliable advice. The recommendations of pharmaceutical specialists for shallow cuts were predominantly determined by antiseptic drugs – most of them chose iodine solutions. 264 reviews were received for 32 trade names of medicines as effective treatment for bedsores. Respondents preferred zinc oxide preparations usage. According to the investigation, the opinions of the interviewed pharmaceutical specialists were focused on the semi-solid dosage forms (ointments, creams etc) for various wound care (abrasions and scratches, burns, scars, bedsores). Dosage forms of medicines for the treatment of cut wounds were an exception. Solutions and new kind of plasters – Skin glue, were the drugs of choice in this group. Phytomedicines practically did not appear among the respondents answers.

Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process which follows the normal physiology trajectory through the phases of homeostasis, inflammation, granulation and maturation. Malaysia has a rich collection of plant based healing. A large number of plants are used for the treatment of cuts and wounds by folklore traditions in Malaysia. Tinospora crispa Miers. (Menispermaceae) is popular in Asian countries for its miracle of curing diseases. T.crispa differs slightly from T.cordifolia which is well distributed in India. Considerable researches have reported the activity of this plant possessing anti-malarial, diabetes treatment etc. In Malaysia, it is used traditionally for wound healing. Hence, the present study was aimed to evaluate its scientific validity. Stems of the plant were air dried after reduced into smaller size. Dried stems were then crushed into coarse powder. Then it was introduced into methanolfor extraction by cold maceration technique. The extract was filteredafter 7 days andfractionatedwith addition of chloroform. The methanol and chloroform fractions were made to evaporate until concentrated and formulated into ointments.Albino rats were separated into four groups of six rats in each group.All four groups were divided and served as a control, methanol fraction, chloroform fraction and standard drug (Betadine) respectively. The methanol extract and chloroform extract were investigated for the evaluation of its healing efficiency on excision wound model in Albino rats. Woundclosure in percentage was used to evaluate the effect on wound healing.The methanol fraction and chloroform fraction showed a significant wound healing activity which was well comparable with the standard drug used. Methanol fraction ointment showed greater activity than chloroform fraction. This study indicated that the methanol fraction ointment possesses wound healing property which substantiates the folklore claim.

The term “wound” is defined as a disruption of normal anatomical structure. Therefore, “healing” is the complex and dynamic process that results in the restoration of anatomical continuity and function. Albino Wistar rats (150-180 g) of both sexes were selected. The experiment of Wound Healing Activity by Excision Wound Model and Incision Wound Model by the simple ointment B.P., reference standard drug (0.2% w/w nitrofurazone ointment), stigmasterol ointment (0.2% w/w), hexane, chloroform and methanol extract ointments of 3%, 4% and 5% w/w of leaves in Jatropha tanjorensis in simple ointment base (where 3g, 4g and 5 g of the extracts was incorporated in 100 g of simple ointment separately). The time for wound closure to methanol extract ointment (5% w/w) and stigmasterol (0.2% w/w) was similar to that of standard drug, nitrofurazone ointment (0.2% w/w) 16 ± 2 days in Excision Wound Model. The significant tensile strength at 3%: 4%: 5% w/w methanol extract ointments (p<0.001), followed by chloroform extract and hexane extract. Stigmasterol ointment at 0.2% w/w produced tensile strength comparable with Standard drug, nitrofurazone ointment (0.2% w/w) (p<0.001) in Incision Wound Model.  Kirithikar and basu stated that the juice of the Jatropha plant and the pounded leaves are applied to wounds and refractory ulcers. The juice is very successfully used to treat scabies, eczema and ringworm. The present study proved that the leaves have wound healing activity.

Injuries and wounds are any sorts of damage to the skin or subcutaneous tissue. Usually, any wounds of such sorts are self-healed. Sometimes, there may be a delay in healing, and that delay is caused due to the functional delays in various processes of wound healing. All the Ficus plants show similar activities like the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties 7including skin conditions like ulcers and rheumatism. The anthelmintic property and immunomodulatory are also seen. The herbal extracts of the same family of Ficus in different plants were investigated for the wound healing activity in the excision wound method, and the extracts showed significant activity compared to the drug. All the extracts showed a better healing ability, but the extract of FBO-100 showed the highest activity followed by FMO followed by FHO and finally the FRO. Overall, the activity of the extract ointment was comparable and was significant compared to the standard drug ointment. The wound closure of the extract ointment treated groups were better and were completed in 12 days, and the activity was more than 96%. The herbal extracts of the same family of Ficus in different plants were investigated for the wound healing activity in the excision wound method, and the extracts showed significant activity compared to the drug. The plants of microcarpa, benghalensis, religiosa and hispida are compared for the activity, and the order showed for the activity was FBO>FMO>FHO>FRO.
