Such development is associated with anumber of negative phenomena, which are described in the article. The strategy and plans for expansion and remodeling of the road infrastructure in Poland are also described here, along-side its charactics. Special attention is devoted to the role of scientifi c research in the imple-mentation of the described plans. The direction of the necessary changes to the design regula-tions in order to allow construction of safer and more effi cient infrastructure, are also indicat-ed in this work.

AbstractKisumu has had a massive growth of informal settlements forming a belt around the urban core. These settlements house more than half of the city’s population. Because of the unplanned nature of these areas there has been very poor road infrastructure development, with narrow, unpaved roads constituting the road infrastructure. This situation has limited the opportunities for regular urban transport minibuses providing transport for the majority of the urban poor who live in these settlements. The coping mechanism and the development of alternative coping strategies are explored and assessed to see how effective they are in providing public transport for this majority of unserviced urban population.

The level of transport infrastructure development directly affects the rate of economic growth. In 2018, in Russia, 67.1 % of the total volume of transported goods were delivered by road transport. However, we cannot talk about the full realization of the road transportation system since 57.6 % of public roads do not meet regulatory requirements. The available statistics indicate that, first of all, attention should be paid to the condition of the roads. The article analyzes the system for road maintenance in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, considers the main regulatory documents governing the activities of road work suppliers and executive authorities in the field of road maintenance. The article examines and analyzes the advanced foreign experience in the field of technologies for servicing roads in the winter. As the result of analysis, the authors propose introducing performance-based contracts into the field of the road sector. The creation of an economically feasible form of performance-based contracts can lead to a decrease in the cost of road maintenance by 10-40 %.

The realizing and improvement of road infrastructure, of modern road networks provides normal, safe and pleasant road traffic conditions and also help prevent road accidents. The road network, with its constructive characteristics, has to offer optimal conditions for the movement of vehicles, pedestrians and other categories of participants in the road traffic. Starting from the case study of a road sector with heavy road traffic, the current paper analyzes the increase in road safety in Romanian localities along European and national roads through the implementation of specific measures such as setting up sidewalks, installing New Jersey median barriers, expanding the road sectors with 2+1 lanes, replacing normal pedestrian crossings with elevated crossings or with pedestrian crossing with mid-road waiting areas etc.

The problems faced by the Azeri economy on account of the falling oil price, the slowing economic growth in the countries that are its key trade partners, and the parallel processes in finance and bank sector are discussed. It is shown that due to the reducing external investment, the rather strong dependence on imports and the shadow employment, the underdeveloped human capital, Azerbaijan risks to be moved to the group of countries with medium or even low rates of profitability. Four strategic goals of the road map for the national economy, developed for the transition to the new concept of economic development, are highlighted. It is argued that the sustainable economic development can be achieved through implementing these goals and the strategic road maps on 11 industries of the national economy, by setting the balance between its non-financial and financial sector. In analyzing the strategic road map for the national economy, it is emphasized that improvement in the statistics infrastructure is one of its action areas. Its main objective is to enhance the quality of statistical information for taking more effective decisions on extending the capabilities of supplementary support for the reforms. The importance of statistical reporting for analyses of the implementation of national programs and development guidelines adopted in Azerbaijan is emphasized. The role of statistics in analyses of the current performance and results of measures specified in the road maps at macroeconomic and sectoral level is underlined. The instruments for statistical data collection are enumerated. The branches of statistics where reorganization is a prime objective are determined. The need for actions to ensure international comparability of statistical data, integration of administrative data, development of the statistical information system on the basis of official methodology is substantiated.

The western region of the island of Java consists of three provinces, namely: West Java, Banten, and Jakarta, is a region that contributes significantly to the GDP of Indonesia. In 2010 the contribu-tion of the three provinces was 33.94% of the total GDP, and the remaining 66.06% came from the other 30 provinces. In spite of its high contribution, in terms of the value added by the western region of Java, there are inequalities between the regions. In the year 2010, Jakarta’s per capita income was ten times, or more, than that of Lebak. The existence of this problem in the income disparity between the regions in western Java raises questions relating to the spatial economic dependence of the west-ern region of Java. The unit analysis of the research is all the districts/cities in West Java, Banten, and Jakarta. The measurement used for the spatial economic dependence is Moran’s Index. Spatial varia-bles were comprised in the spatial weight matrix (matrix-W), which was formed using three approach-es: based on the distance, the neighbourhood, and the road transportation network. The economic variables in this study are the level of income per capita and economic growth. The results showed spatial economic dependence, based on distance and neighbourhood, tended to be low. Whereas, the spatial economic dependence based on road connectivity, especially freeways, showed a moderate correlation. Keywords: road infrastructure, spatial economic dependence, Moran’s Index, western region of Java.

<em>The role of road infrastructure is important for economic activity in Java Economic Corridor. Infrastructure is needed for developing economic activity, but on the other side it decreases the size of agricultural land. This research is analyzing the impact of road infrastructure development and other economic variables on the size of agricultural land in Java Economic Corridor. This research uses panel data model in 6 provinces in Java Economic Corridor 2001-2011. The finding of the research shows that variable length of road (PJ), population density (KP), and a number of large and medium industries (IND) negatively affected the size of agricultural land in Java Economic Corridor</em>.
