The U-turn movement activities at several median openings available along the Letjen Hertasning road arguably is one of the triggering factors for the occurrence of traffic congestion on that road section because this movement creates hindrances to traffic flow in the same lane and the contra flow when the vehicle requires additional space to complete the movement. The purpose of this study is to reveal the consequence caused by the U-turn movement to the traffic performance of Letjen Hertasning road in Makassar City. The traffic surveys were conducted at five selected observation points at the first five median openings of Jalan Letjen Hertasning which is directly adjacent to Jl. AP Pettarani for three days at three peak hours segment which are in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The analysis of road performance follows the procedures in the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual. Research result shown that the length of vehicles queuing to finish the U-turn movement during the peak hours reached 9 vehicles with a queue length of 36 m. This queue causes the capacity of the road to decrease by 2.5-10% of the actual capacity which causes a decrease in speed, an increase in the degree of saturation, and a reduction in the level of service of the road.

A combination of factors including an unattractive public transport offering a low level of service, the lack of parking facilities, an inadequate drivers? education and poor policing have led to illegal parking phenomena in many Greek cities, contributing in their aesthetic and cultural degradation, making them inaccessible for both vehicles and pedestrians. In the present study the phenomenon of illegal parking is investigated along selected road axes in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. After the appropriate processing of the data collected, the impact of illegal parking on the reduction of road capacity was calculated. Moreover, it was attempted to relate illegal parking activity with the type of adjacent land uses. Conclusions regarding the degree of parking violations and the road capacity reduction in relation to road and adjacent land uses? characteristics are given and possible measures and policies towards the alleviation of the problem are proposed.

Cement-stabilized macadam is the most widely used road base material in road engineering. The current study investigated the impact of fiber diameter on its performance. The authors prepared polyester fibers with diameters of 20, 35, 70, and 105 μm and added them to cement-stabilized macadam. Then, the indoor shrinkage tests and mechanical property tests at different ages were conducted. Then, the property changes of the polyester-reinforced cement-stabilized macadam were analysed. The water loss rate of the polyester-reinforced cement-stabilized macadam is subject to the combined influence of the “water loss surface effect” and “water loss porthole effect.” With increasing fiber diameter, the water loss surface effect becomes stronger, and the water loss porthole effect gradually decreases; thus, the overall effect transitions from the latter to the former. Moreover, the water loss rate shows an increasing trend of decreasing to its minimum. Therefore, with increasing fiber diameter, the average dry shrinkage coefficient of the polyester-reinforced cement-stabilized macadam first increases and then decreases, while the temperature shrinkage coefficients increase. The change in the fiber diameter does not significantly affect the compressive resilient modulus of the polyester-reinforced cement-stabilized macadam if the fiber content remains constant. These findings demonstrate the functional mechanism of the fiber diameter on the road performance of cement-stabilized macadam, thus improving our understanding of the road performance of the polyester-reinforced cement-stabilized macadam and laying a solid theoretical foundation for its many applications.

Commercial buildings in the Bassura Mall area (Jalan Jenderal Basuki Rahmat) have resulted in congestion in the area. Vehicles use road bodies to park their vehicles, sidewalks that are used as trading places by street vendors, and the position of the entrance / exit of Bassura Mall for four-wheeled vehicles that is not strategic. These things have caused the author to choose a location in the Bassura Mall area (Jalan Jenderal Basuki Rahmat), East Jakarta which is a local route, where East Jakarta as one of the big cities in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta also experiences high vehicle growth, p. This can be seen on roads in East Jakarta which often experience congestion during rush hour. The purpose of this research is to determine the traffic performance in the area. The method used in this research is direct observation method at the research location and field data collection in the form of parking volume data, pedestrian volume, vehicle volume entering / exiting Mall Bassura, traffic volume, and road performance. Observations were made on weekdays and holidays. The results of the analysis of the performance of the road sections show that the traffic volume on the roads around Mall Bassura is 32,433 SMP / hour on weekdays and 22,577 SMP / hour on holidays, with the service level index being in the F category on weekdays and holidays. Thus, the congestion factors mentioned above have resulted in a decrease in road capacity which has an impact on road performance.

The weaving section, as a typical bottleneck, is one source of vehicle conflicts and an accident-prone area. Traffic accident will block lanes and the road capacity will be reduced. Several models have been established to study the dynamics around traffic bottlenecks. However, little attention has been paid to study the complex traffic dynamics influenced by the combined effects of bottleneck and accident. This paper presents a cellular automaton model to characterize accident-induced traffic behavior around the weaving section. Some effective control measures are proposed and verified for traffic management under accident condition. The total flux as a function of inflow rates, the phase diagrams, the spatial-temporal diagrams, and the density and velocity profiles are presented to analyze the impact of accident. It was shown that the proposed control measures for weaving traffic can improve the capacity of weaving section under both normal and accident conditions; the accidents occurring on median lane in the weaving section are more inclined to cause traffic jam and reduce road capacity; the capacity of weaving section will be greatly reduced when the accident happens downstream the weaving section.

In this paper, we study the impact of city driveway occupancy on the urban road traffic capacity. Through the analysis of the scene of an accident case, we gained the vehicle statistics within a cross section in unit time and then did calculation and simulation. The work is concluded as a reasonable model of vehicle queue relationship evaluation.First, on the base of the definition of traffic capacity, statistics of the cars in the cross section before the accident, during the accident and after the accident have been respectively acquired in unit time (1 min). Then we employ Matlab to do the interpolation fitting, drawing the change of actual capacity of the road from the beginning time of an accident to the time when traffic resumes. The work comes to a conclusion that the change of the capacity at the cross section has a pattern of periodic fluctuation.
