The background of the study is the lack of adequate vocabulary by students due to lack of vocabulary exercises. The teacher teaches the students based on the textbook and running it to get the target of the curriculum which not paid attention to the students understanding when it caused them tended to be bored. This study was about the application of STAR strategy to improve students’ vocabulary. Thus, this study was aimed (1) to find out how STAR strategy application can improve students’ vocabulary (2) to explain the students’ perception about learning vocabulary through STAR strategy. The design of this study was a pre-experimental method. The subject of this study was first grade students of the senior high school. Furthermore, the data were gained through a test (pre-test and post-test) and non-test (questionnaire). The test was used to know students’ competence before and after the implementation, while a questionnaire was used to know students’ perceptions towards STAR strategy. The significant findings of the recent study were the students’ vocabulary mastery is significantly increased. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score and good responses by students. Students’ average score from pre-test was 22 and the post-test was 73. The t-test score was higher than the t-table (2,09< 13,66 > 2, 86). It was meant that researchers’ hypothesis could be accepted. Finally, the STAR strategy could be implemented practically and pedagogically in improving students’ vocabulary.

This research aimed at investigating whether there is a significant effect of Picture Word Inductive Model on students’ competence in writing narrative text. The design of this research was Pre-Experimental design one group pre test and post test. The population of this research was all first grade of class IPA of Senior High School 4 Wangi-Wangi. The sample of this research was class IPA 1 which consists of 20 students. The instrument of this research was writing test in narrative genre and the criteria of students’ writing were assessed from five aspects of writing, namely content, organization, language use, vocabulary and mechanics. The data were obtained by using two essay writing tests. They were pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given before treatment and the post-test was given after treatments in order to know the students’ competence before and after treatment of Picture Word Inductive Model.  The data were analyzed by using SPSS in form of Paired Sample T-test. The result of the analysis showed that there was a significant effect of Picture Word Inductive Model on students’ competence in writing narrative text. It proved by the result of hypothesis testing using paired sample t-test. The mean score of pre-test was 59.77 and mean score of post-test was 76.67. Moreover, as a result the probability score of .000 (p score) was less than the level of significance (p ≤ 0.50. Therefore, it can be said that using Picture Word Inductive Model gives significant effect to increase students’ competence in writing narrative text at class IPA 1 of Senior High School 4 Wangi-Wangi.

Abstrak : Penelitian dilakukan untuk menganalisis apakah metode pembelajaran  pemecahan masalah (Problem Solving) efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Mataram tahun pembelajaran 2010/2011. Jenis penelitian  eksperimen semu. Populasi penelitian adalah semua kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Mataram tahun pembelajaran 2010/2011. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas X10 sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas X12 sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan jumlah siswa masing-masing 31 orang. Pengambilan sampel dengan teknik Simple Random Sampling.Instrumen penelitian berupa tes hasil belajar, lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa. Pre-tes dilakukan untuk mengetahui kemampuan awal dan Post-test untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa setelah diberikan perlakuan yang berbeda. Data hasil belajar kognitif dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji-t polled varians terhadap selisih nilai pre-test dan  pos-test. Hasil penelitian diperoleh rata-rata kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol, baik pada pre-test maupun post-test. Hasil uji hipotesis menunjukkan nilai t hitung> t tabel, yakni 2,987 > 1, 671 pada taraf kesalahan 5%, yang menunjukkan peningkatan hasil belajar yang signifikan. Data hasil belajar untuk aspek afektif dianalisis menggunakan skala penilaian dan aspek psikomotor menggunakan skala likert. Hasil penilaian menunjukkan peningkatan hasil belajar dengan rata-rata sangat baik pada kelas eksperimen, dan beberapa kategori baik dan kurang baik pada kelas kontrol. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode Problem Solving efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Mataram tahun pembelajaran 2010/2011. Kata Kunci: metode Problem Solving, hasil belajar biologi   Abstract: This research is aimed to analyze the effectiveness of problem solving methods to increase biological learning attainment of grade X student of Mataram High School in The Academic Year 2010/2011. This research used quasi experiment design. The population of the research was grade X students of Mataram Senior High School  3 in The Year 2010/2011. The samples of the research were 2 classes of 12 classes of grade X students. Student of the X10 was treated  as experimental class and student of the X12 were untreated as control class.  Simple random sampling was used to determined the sample, and observation sheet both of teacher and students were used as instrument in this research. Pretest was held to get information about students background knowledge of both classes and post test was held to know student achievement after given the treatment. The data of cognitive assessment was analysed using t- test polled variance according to difference between pretest and post test score. The result showed that everage score in experiment class was higher than the control class for both pretest or post test score. However, the t-test analyze suggest that  the  achievement of cognitive score was significantly in experimental class than the control class. The student assessment data of affective aspect was analyzed using score scale while psychomotoric aspect was analyzed using likert scale. The result shows that the experimental class achieved higher scale of category then the control class as this class achieved only medium and low category scale. This suggest that the application of problem solving learning methods was effective for increasing biological learning attainment of grade X student of Mataram Senior High School 3 in The Year of 2010/2011. Keywords: Problem Solving Methods, students learning attainment

Thus, the aim of this study was to find out whether snake and ladder board game could improve students’ vocabulary mastery or not. The subject analyzed in this research were the tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah I. The experimental group was X-IPS-I while the control group was X-IPS-II.This study employed quantitative research design. This design was selected due to this present study was required a concrete evidence whether Snake and Ladder Board Game could enhance students’ vocabulary mastery in senior high school or not. In this study the instruments used were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The pre-test was given to both experimental and control group. After the pre-test was given to both groups, then the experimental group was treated or taught by using snake and ladder board game, while the control group was not treated by using snake and ladder board game. After that, the post-test was also given to both experimental and control group. The researcher used t-test to know the significant difference between the mean score of the experimental and control group. The process of t-test was counted using computer SPSS 17 version.The result of this study was shown that snake and ladder board game could improve students’ vocabulary mastery due to the score of pre-test in control group was higher than the pre-test score of experimental group. Otherwise, the post-test score of experimental group was higher than the control group. Accordingly, related to the result of this experimental research, the researcher concludes that snake and ladder board game can improve students’ vocabulary mastery in the first year students of senior high school.

BackgroundJapan is one of the world's famous countries for natural disaster. Seven years ago, The Japanese government indicated the necessity of providing disaster prevention education in schools. However, such education has not yet been introduced.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate the 90min triage program in senior high schools.MethodSixty nine students attended the program. The effects of the program were evaluated using pre and post examination by paired t-test and McNemar's test.ResultCompare pre-test with post-test, the average score of the tests was a significant increased. Compare pre-questionnaire with post-questionnaire, the number of interested students in a regional disaster drill has increased.DiscussionThe results showed that this program increased the interest in disaster prevention and provided students with a chance to participate in disaster drills in their own resident area.ConclusionCarrying out this program in senior high schools, would provide students with a chance to learn disaster prevention.

Being able to read in English is very important. Success in reading is the most necessary because it is a basic tool of education. Based on the syllabus of Islamic Senior high School Hidayatul Mubtadiin (MAHM), it is hoped that students should comprehend monolog texts in narrative, spoof and hortatory exposition forms well. After doing preliminary observation at MAHM, some of the students of the second year still had low ability in their reading comprehension. The dominant factors influencing their low reading comprehension are the lack of vocabulary and teaching strategy of reading comprehension. From the two of dominant factors, the researcher is interested to investigate about teaching reading comprehension. Thus, the researcher conducted a research on the effect of Multipass strategy on Reading comprehension. This research investigates students’ reading comprehension taught by using multipass strategy at MAHM Siak Sri Inderapura. The design of this study was Quasi-experimental research by post-test only. The subject of this research was the second year students of MAHM. The total population was 42 students, and the sample was 42 students. Data were collected by using a test. Then, the data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that there was a significant effect of using multi pass strategy on students’ reading comprehension at MAHM.

The purpose of this research is to produce a decent and effective digital photo video media for the subject of composition for the students of class XI Multimedia of Vocational High School. The development model used is the ADDIE model. To determine the feasibility of the product is based on expert test ie media experts and content experts. To know the effectiveness of the product is based on a comparison of learning result test between experiment class and control class at SMKN 1 Dlanggu Mojokerto. Based on the results of expert test data analysis obtained conclusion that the learning video media developed feasible to use in learning. The result of the value of pre-test and post- test conducted in control class and experimental class by using t-test obtained t-count is 13,11 and by using t-test distribution table with significant level 5% obtained t-table = 2 , 68, thus the video learning media declared effective. The conclusion of this study indicates that the video learning media subjects composition of digital photos declared feasible and effective for students class XI Multimedia Vocational Secondary School.AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan media video mata pelajaran komposisi foto digital yang layak dan efektif bagi siswa kelas XI Multimedia Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan. Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah model ADDIE. Untuk mengetahui kelayakan produk didasarkan pada uji ahli yakni ahli media dan ahli isi. Untuk mengetahui keefektifan produk didasarkan pada perbandingan tes hasil belajar antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol di SMKN 1 Dlanggu Mojokerto. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data uji ahli diperoleh simpulan bahwa media video pembelajaran yang dikembangkan layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Hasil nilai dari pre-test dan post-test yang dilakukan pada kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen dengan menggunakan uji-t diperoleh t-hitung adalah 13,11 dan dengan menggunakan tabel distribusi uji-t dengan taraf signifikan 5% diperoleh t-tabel = 2,68, dengan demikian media video pembelajaran dinyatakan efektif. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media video pembelajaran mata pelajaran komposisi foto digital dinyatakan layak dan efektif bagi siswa kelas XI Multimedia Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan.

Purpose of Study: This research is talking about the use of Webtoons comic in speaking on the recount. The aim of this research is to know whether this media is effective in teaching speaking on the recount. Methodology: It is pre-experimental research with one group of pre test - post test. Thirty students in X-5 class at Muhammadiyah 1 high school Surabaya become the sample. The treatments had been done twice, so there are two pairs of results. Results: The results are administered and calculated by using SPSS 21 for windows (paired T-test). The means of pair 1 are 31.93 (pre-test 1) and 34.77(post test 1). Meanwhile, the means of pair 2 are 32.00 (pre test 2) and 35.77 (post test 2). The sig value for pair 1 is .00 and pair 2 is .00. Based on these figures, it can be said that there is any different before and after the implementation of teaching speaking performance on a recount by using Webtoons. Even the improvement of students’ speaking competence on recount is not much, for the students. Implications/Applications: Webtoons is an interactive teaching medium which makes them more enthusiastic, comfortable and easily arrange their text to be told.

This research aims to improve senior high school students’ physics problem-solving skills through learning used IBMR learning model. This research was a pre-an experimental study with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The Methods of data collection used validation and test. The materials used to teach were valid category by two experts and can be used to practice physics problem-solving skills. The average post-test score physics problem-solving ability was 73.24 with an N-gain of 0.59 was classified as moderate. The success of IBMR learning model-based devices in practicing problem-solving abilities can be seen in the increase in the average score in each indicator of problem-solving abilities. The indicator of understanding the problem had the highest post-test average score of 94.58 with an N-gain of 0.89 in the high category. The problem-solving indicator had the lowest posttest average score was 58.22 with N-gain 0.39 and mean that it was the moderate category. Based on the results study, it can be concluded that the learning used by IBMR learning model can practice the ability to solve physics problems on heat material and its displacement. Learning with the IBMR learning model was expected to train students in solving physics problems. The stages in the IBMR learning model can help students

This research aims to see the students’ speaking skill before and after learning process by using expression card media at the second grade of SMA Negeri 1 Parepare. The results of the research are useful for the teacher and students. The teacher should aware that it is important to supplied the technique or strategy before teaching and the students also can be easier to express their ideas, make the students more active in learning process. The subject of this research is XI IIS4 class which is consisted of 30 students. The sample was taken by using simple random sampling. The design in this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The student did the pre-test, got the treatment and did the post-test. Then the criteria of speaking skills are fluency, accuracy, content, pronunciation and they were usedto measure the students’ speaking skill. It aimed to know whether using expression card media can improve the students’ speaking skill. The result in this research was indicated that there was improvement of the students’ speaking skill. It was indicated by the students’ mean score of post-test (73.3) was greater than pre-test (41.9). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and (df) = N-1=30-1=29, and the value of table is 1.699, while the value of t-test is 16.18. it means that, the t-test value is greater than t-table (16.18 ≥ 1.699). Thus, it can be concluded that the students’ speaking skill is significant better after getting the treatment. So, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is fail rejected.
