Opportunities for the influence of humanitarian subjects on the spiritual and moral development of the cadets of higher educational organizations of the MIA of Russia

The relevance of the topic is related to the importance of humanitarian education for the formation of worldview and spiritual and moral foundations of the personality. The need for humanistic and humanitarian orientation of University education is justified by many pedagogues. Universities of the MIA of Russia provide students with the opportunity to master a wide range of Humanities. The article presents the results of a study that developed a system of Humanities that affect the spiritual and moral development of students. In the course of the analysis, the worldview and psychological and pedagogical blocks of Humanities were identified, and the number of hours for each course of study was indicated. In addition, the article shows the interdisciplinary connections of Humanities that integrate knowledge on the spiritual and moral sphere of personal development. There are four thematic modules of Humanities: “Man”, “Society”, “Activity”, “Universe”. The analysis of the interdisciplinary interaction of the selected thirteen Humanities is carried out. Examples of forms and methods of formative work are shown, according to the curricula for the mastering these disciplines. The topics, their content, forming competencies, forms and methods of experimental work are correlated, which allows us to clearly trace the interdisciplinary connections.

The article is about arts education in Canadian schools, used as a tool for the development of students’ key competences. It is proven that arts education fulfils a lot of functions (develops individual capabilities, provides right to education and cultural participation, improves quality of education and the expression of cultural diversity) and has various benefits (intrinsic and extrinsic) for people. It contributes to overall development of students (moral, physical, cognitive, emotional etc.), enhances their motivation and academic success. The article shows that arts education is a powerful tool for developing Essential Graduation Learning- some of the key competences for school graduates: aesthetic expression, citizenship, communication, personal development, problem solving, technological competence, spiritual/moral development.

AbstractPublic opinion can affect the adoption of genome editing technologies. In food production, genome editing can be applied to a wide range of applications, in different species and with different purposes. This study analyzed how the public responds to five different applications of genome editing, varying the species involved and the proposed purpose of the modification. Three of the applications described the introduction of disease resistance within different species (human, plant, animal), and two targeted product quality and quantity in cattle. Online surveys in Canada, the US, Austria, Germany and Italy were carried out with a total sample size of 3698 participants. Using a between-subject design, participants were confronted with one of the five applications and asked to decide whether they considered it right or wrong. Perceived risks, benefits, and the perception of the technology as tampering with nature were surveyed and were complemented with socio-demographics and a measure of the participants’ moral foundations. In all countries, participants evaluated the application of disease resistance in humans as most right to do, followed by disease resistance in plants, and then in animals, and considered changes in product quality and quantity in cattle as least right to do. However, US and Italian participants were generally more positive toward all scenarios, and German and Austrian participants more negative. Cluster analyses identified four groups of participants: ‘strong supporters’ who saw only benefits and little risks, ‘slight supporters’ who perceived risks and valued benefits, ‘neutrals’ who showed no pronounced opinion, and ‘opponents’ who perceived higher risks and lower benefits. This research contributes to understanding public response to applications of genome editing, revealing differences that can help guide decisions related to adoption of these technologies.

This general edition of the journal provides insights and results of research employing a wide range of approaches and perspectives on widening participation and lifelong learning. Studies from across the UK and international sector utilise different methodological approaches, and as such are particularly interesting, with diverse methods and ways of analysis, including phenomenographic, narrative, and thematic analysis. Overall, the articles range from exploratory case studies and small-scale research to wider range and broad scale studies, highlighting different facets and perspectives. Furthermore, the articles in this volume cover a broad spectrum of institutions and places involved in widening participation, with an emphasis on the (higher) education sector in the UK balanced by international perspectives. The first seven empirical articles are based on research activities in a secondary school, a youth centre, in further education colleges (usually focusing on post-compulsory secondary or pre-university education), in so-called post-92 universities (new(er) universities, formerly Polytechnics and teacher training colleges), and last but not least in a research intensive Russell Group university. They reported challenges from the specific local contexts of different regions in England, from the South (Chichester) to London to the North (Carlisle), and can usefully be framed in the context of international discussions appearing later in the journal.

This paper presents a novel approach to education in the area of digital forensics based on a multi-platform cloud-computer infrastructure and an innovative computer based tool. The tool is installed and available through the cloud-based infrastructure of the Dynamic Forensic Education Alliance. Cloud computing provides an efficient mechanism for a wide range of services that offer real-life environments for teaching and training cybersecurity and digital forensics. The cloud-based infrastructure, the virtualized environment and the developed educational tool enable the construction of a dynamic e-learning environment making the training very close to reality and to real-life situations. The paper presents the Dynamic Forensic Digital tool named EduFors and describes the different levels of college and university education where the tool is introduced and used in the training of future investigators of cybercrime events.

One of the significant factors affecting the condition of the students’ visual apparatus is an illumination level in the premises of educational organizations. Electromagnetic radiation arising from computers also has an essential influence on a state of health. Taking into account the urgency of this problem, an analysis of illumination indices and EM radiation was made in audiences of higher educational institutions of various profiles (Ufa, the Republic of Bashkortostan). The total number of illumination measurements was 3528. The measurement methods met the requirements of the interstate standard. According to the results of the illumination indices estimation in the studied universities, a significant deviation from the regulated norms was revealed: in 71.5% of the measurements the index was below the norm. It should be noted that indices differed significantly depending on the type of educational organization. The best situation is in the “Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation,” where only 13.3% of the measurements are inconsistent with the normative indices. Pulsation coefficient also was determined. It turned out that 88.8% of the measurements do not correspond to the norm. The analysis of illumination measurements in computer classes was carried out. Only one-fifth of them in the computer table working area in the of the document placement corresponded to SanPin. An anonymous questionnaire was also organized for students from four leading universities in Ufa, the Republic of Bashkortostan. According to respondents’ answers, out of seven students, one was revealed to be suffering from myopia. On the basis of “Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Republic of Bashkortostan”, a study of non-ionizing radiation from video terminals located in computer classes was made. 1145 measurements were made in 20 buildings of four universities studied. It was found out that the intensity of the electrostatic field did not meet the requirements of SanPiN in 5.7% of the measurements. Hygienic assessment of the environment of educational organizations of various profiles revealed a number of significant deviations from the regulated norms. The obtained results testify to the need to monitor the illumination and EMR indices both from the administration of higher education institutions and from teachers. Based on the results of the study, recommendations were prepared for the management of higher educational institutions in Ufa.

This reveals the conceptual foundations of medical activities as a complex medical and psycho-pedagogical process, which not only improves the efficiency of the professional activities of doctors, but also the formation of individual image of the world of patients achieving this level of personal development where disease and related restrictions do not interfere with their self-development based on the existing system of values and meanings. The paper provides a detailed analysis of the interaction of the three components of medical and psychological care to patients and their families: psychodiagnosis psyhoeducation and correction (psychotherapy). Presents a program of psychological diagnosis of somatic patients, including a study of the characteristics of emotional state and distress intrapsychological and behavioral patterns, strategies for overcoming stress behavior and family functioning determine the influence of psychic correction targets formulated the task of medical and psychological assistance and the amount psyhoeducation classes. Concepts and practical application of medical and psychological training of general practitioners and medical internist at the stages of pre-tested and post-graduate training in preparation of interns, and the pre-cycles thematic improvement of doctors. Determined, medical, psychological and educational determinants doctor's practice, positive motivation of their activities; preparedness to common therapeutic activities; focus on subject-subject interaction; mastering the techniques of effective communication and more.

A random sample of recently certified occupational therapists was surveyed regarding their value positions. Results indicated that personal development of occupational therapy theory held low priority relative to other aspects of occupational therapy. Chi square analysis showed that those therapists who obtained their basic professional education in masters' or certificate programs valued theory development significantly more than their baccalaureate educated peers. Results also showed that newly certified occupational therapists did not have knowledge of a wide range of occupational therapy theorists and that such knowledge was unrelated to value position toward theory development.

There is no doubt that the science of astronomy is now in an exhilarating state. We are in the era of the 10 m optical telescope. Radio astronomy rivals optical astronomy in both positional precision and sensitivity. Observation from space has opened access to a wide range of frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum. The spectacular achievements of the Hubble Space Telescope underline the success story of space astronomy. At all wavelengths, detector technology has made striking advances in sensitivity and, coupled with cheap, sophisticated and powerful computers, raw data can be transformed into useful scientific data with breathtaking speed. One has only to add up the number of papers published in the three major astronomical journals to realise that one must read 100 journal pages a day (every day) to keep up with the literature in these three journals alone. Astronomy at the close of the 20th century is indeed exhilarating.
