This undergraduate thesis is entitled Hierarchy of Needs Analysis of The Main Character of A Novel Entitled Flawed By Cecelia Ahern. This study is intended to find out what are the hierarchy of needs that have been fulfilled by the main character and how the main character fulfilled the hierarchy of needs. The data were taken from the novel Flawed written by Cecelia Ahern. The researcher used qualitative and descriptive method in analyzing the hierarchy of needs. In this research, the researcher found 10 data of physiological needs, 34 data of physiological needs, 52 data of love and belonging needs, 44 data of self esteem, and 24 data of self actualization. Based on Maslow’s theory, there are five level of hierarchy of needs that the main character can satisfied.

This research aims to analyze the aspect of Love and Belonging needs. The Hierarchy of Needs theory is used to analyze what everyone needs in their lives and how to meet those needs. The Hierarchy of Needs consists of five levels consisting of basic needs, security needs, the need for love and ownership, the need for self-esteem, and the need for self-satisfaction. As considerations in this study using the theory of the Hierarchy of Needs from Abraham Maslow 1954 who analyzed the need for love and ownership of the main character in the novel Persuasion by Jane Austen 1817. Anne as a figure in the Persuasion novel by Jane Austen 1817 is a girl who is trying to improve the hierarchy of Needs love and the interests of family and girls love. In analyzing this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive method as a technique for collecting data. The data collected by researchers based on the object of this study are the needs of love and ownership of the main character in the novel Persuasion by Jane Austen 1817. Data collected includes speech, action, sentence, and narration relating to the blindness of love and the main character in the story. Research is made for purposes that are useful for discussion and for other parties, and for this research purposes about humans that will meet the needs and effects of if these needs are not met.

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the main character's personality in the novel "Genduk" by Sundari Mardjuki (Literature Psychology Study) by using Abraham Maslow's perspective. The data in this study are derived from the novel Genduk by Sundari Mardjuki, Cetakan November 2017, the publisher of PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama, with a total of 232 pages. Data is collected by library method, see, record, and documentation. The findings of the study show that all the needs theory proposed by Abraham Maslow has been obtained by the main character. The five needs raised include physiological needs or basic needs, the need for security, needs to be owned and loved, the need for self-esteem, and the need for self-actualization. The results showed that the fulfillment of these five needs in the main character found a good personality development from the main characters, including sociability, compassion, helping, not being easily offended, never giving up in achieving desires, and wise in responding to conflicts or problems.

The title of this thesis is Woman Struggle in Cahaya Cinta Pesantren Novel by Ira Madan. This study aims to analyzing how is the woman struggle for her ambition of  Marshila Silalahi  in term of hierarchy of needs that she had faced. The source of the data of the analysis is Cahaya Cinta Pesantren novel and the data are the linguistic features that are formed as sentences by the first woman main character. The writer applies the theories from Maslow (1943) about the hierarchy of needs. Based on its form, Maslow was devided the struggle into 5 stage model, they are (1) Physiological needs, (2) Safety needs, (3) Love and Belonging needs, (4) Esteem needs, (5) Self-actualization. The writer devided the data based on each types of self-actualization by Maslow in Hierarchy of needs. Struggle is related to subconscious mind phychologically, the female character is potrayed to reach her ambition with personal reasons to get something in her struggle. The sources of data of this research are any statements, dialogues and actions that prove or describe the self-actualization of a woman struggle in the novel Cahaya Cinta Pesantren (2014) by Ira Madan. Finally the struggles in each types of selfactualization can be interpreted through Marshila Silalahi sentences of the novel and it is found that hierarchy of needs reflect woman struggle.

The title of this undergraduate thesis is Ellipsis in English Coordinated Clauses in the Novel Entitled 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith. The aims of the study are to classify the types of ellipsis and to analyze the position of ellipsis in coordinated clauses. The data of this study were in the form of the English coordinated clauses with coordinating conjunction and, or, and but which were found in a novel entitled 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith. The data were collected by using documentation method which was done by close reading on the data source, taking note, and continued by classification. This study used the theory of ellipsis proposed by Quirk, et al (1972) presented by using qualitative method in analyzing the data. The collected data were identified according to the categories of the types and the occurrence of ellipsis in coordinated clauses. This study used descriptive method in presenting the data. The result of this study shows that the types of ellipsis in coordinated are divided into six major namely: ellipsis of subject, ellipsis of auxiliary, ellipsis of subject and auxiliary, ellipsis of predication, ellipsis of head of noun phrase, and ellipsis of subject complement.  Ellipsis of subject is the most frequently used type of ellipsis that occur in the data. The ellipsis can occur in the first and in the subsequent clauses in coordinated clauses. However, the ellipsis in the data is mostly anaphoric with the realized items in the first of a series of the clauses.

            The title of this paper is to measure the personality of the main character in the novel of {Daryas and lashakan} which means { Daryas and corpses} of Bakhtyar Ali.Then taking into consideration a method of psychoanalytic criticism. Of course personality in the novel texts is significant and has a big role, so psycho has an impact on reflecting the personality. This paper tries to analyse the personality of the main characters in the novel in the light of the method of psychoanalytic criticism. The paper is divided into two parts: the first section is about the definition of the term psychology. The second section is devoted to the relation between literature and psychology. Also in the third section a method of psychoanalytic criticism in literature has been presented. In the first section of the second part is about the personality of the character of the novel and the aim of the novel. The character hs been assessed in terms of five psychological disorders ( depression, pessimism, low self-esteem, fear and worry, anger and oppositional deiant disorder ). Through those psychological disorders this paper tries to assess the personality of both characters ( Elyas and Daryas ). Elyas believed in running revolution but Daryas didnt believe in the revolution.

Abstract                                                                                   This article discusses about  Little Eyolf , a drama written by Henrik Ibsen , telling about a handicapped child, named Eyolf, who is hard enough to find his self-actualization because his parents and neighborhoods give him poor affection. To study this phenomenon, the inductive method is applied to analyze  the self-actualization. The study focuses on Eyolf’s self actualization and aims to fid out how Eyolf gets his self actualization in his life. By the unsupportive environment, Eyolf escapes from reality and lives in his world of fantasy to fulfill his own need. The spirit of Eyolf to find his own redemption is closely related to the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Therefore, in this study is applied qualitative research. Eyolf’s dying spirit of self-actualization ends with tragedy. However, in this final scene,  his parents regrets not giving Eyolf the needs for physiological, safety, self esteem, belongingness and love during his childhood. The result of the research proves that to achieve his self-actualization or the basic need of his life, Eyolf needs very much his parents’s care and affection but it is never happened during his childhood time.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Keywords: self-actualization, hierarchy of needs, physiological need, safety need, self esteem need, belongingness and love need

Abstrak   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kepribadian sebelum dan setelah mengalami perubahan pada tokoh utama Haruki Shiga dalam novel Kimi No Suizou Wo Tabetai karya Sumino Yoru. Metode penelitian yang digunakan oleh penulis yaitu metode deskriptif analisis pada tokoh dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu teori tentang penokohan dan plot dengan cara menggunakan metode penokohan yaitu metode langsung (telling) dan metode tidak langsung (showing) untuk mengidentifikasi kepribadian sebelum dan setelah perubahan tokoh utama Haruki Shiga dalam novel Kimi No Suizou Wo Tabetai karya Sumino Yoru. Data yang menjadi objek penelitian berupa kutipan-kutipan penokohan pada Haruki yang menggambarkan kepribadian tokoh Haruki sebelum mengalami perubahan kepribadian dan setelah mengalami perubahan kepribadian. Hasil dari kepribadian tokoh utama Haruki sebelum mengalami perubahan kepribadian yaitu adanya sifat yang tertutup, acuh tak acuh dan pemalu. Sedangkan hasil dari kepribadian tokoh utama Haruki setelah mengalami perubahan yaitu lebih peduli dan lebih membuka diri. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini yaitu dalam meneliti kepribadian sebelum dan setelah perubahan tokoh utama dapat menggunakan metode penokohan supaya mendapatkan hasil secara langsung yang dilihat dari sifat tokoh utama dan plot dalam cerita.     Kata Kunci : Novel, Metode langsung dan tidak langsung   Abstract   This study aims to determine the personality before and after experiencing a change in the main character Haruki Shiga in the novel Kimi No Suizou Wo Tabetai by Sumino Yoru. The research method used by the author is a descriptive method of analysis of figures with a literary psychology approach. The theory used in this research is the theory of characterizations and plots by using the characterization method, namely the direct method (telling) and the indirect method (showing) to identify the personality before and after the change of the main character Haruki Shiga in Kimi's No Suizou Wo Tabetai novel by Sumino Yoru The data are the object of research in the form of characterizations in Haruki characterizations that describe the personality of Haruki's character before experiencing changes in personality and after experiencing changes in personality. The results of the personality of the main character Haruki before experiencing personality changes are the nature of being closed, indifferent and shy . While the results of the personality of the main character Haruki after undergoing change are more caring and more open. The conclusion of this research is in examining the personality before and after the change of the main character can use the characterization method in order to get results directly as seen from the character's main character and plot in the story.   Keywords : Novel, telling method and showing method

This research aims to elaborate the The social circumstances and psychological analysis which are existing in Madame Bouvary.  Therefore, the researcher will analyze how social circumstance influences the psychological condition of Emma as the main character of this work. In order to analyze this research, the researcher utilizes the literary psychology approach  as the main theory. Besides, to strengthen the psychological analysis in this work, the researcher uses Abbraham Mashlow theory as the additional perspective. Furthermore, the researcher uses qualitative methodology both for collecting data and analyzing data. In collecting the primary data, the researcher gathers the information through the work and for collecting the supporting data, the researcher collects it from books which related to this research. The results research shows that the social circumstance in the novel has been influencing Emma’s characteristics in some particular aspects such as (1) psychological needs, (2) savety needs, (3) the love and belonging needs, (4) self estem, and (5) self actualization.

Self-actualization is term that is commonly used in psychology theories. The term can be simply translated as the full realization of someone’s potential or true self. This study was conducted to analyze the life journey of the main character of The Bell Jar in achieving herself-actualization. The purposes of this study are to describe the character of the main character in The Bell Jar and to describe the main character in achieving self-actualization and how it is portrayed in the novel. This study was done using a descriptive qualitative method and using Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs theory and New Criticism theory to explain the main character and her journey in achieving self-actualization in the form of words. The object of the study was the novel The Bell Jar and this study focused on Esther Greenwood as the main character.  List of an observational sheet was used as the research instrument and the data was taken through library research. The analysis was conducted by interpreting Esther’s utterances and actions using New Criticism theory to describe Esther’s characterization and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs theory to describe Esther’s self-actualization. The study results showed that Esther’s self-actualization is the results of her being able to fulfill her previous stages both directly and indirectly before reaching self-actualization stage along her life journey. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan refleksi diri tokoh dalam novel Pesentren Impian karya Asma Nadia yang dikaitkan dengan motivasi diri serta pemenuhan hiarki kebutuhan Abraham Maslow. Metode yang dipakai adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa teks dalam novel Pesantren Impian karya Asma Nadia. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan membaca sumber data. Kemudian pengklasifikasian data, data dipisahkan berdasarkan permasalahan dan tujuan penelitian. Data yang sudah diinterpretasikan selanjutnya di eksplanasi dalam bentuk paparan bahasa sebagai suatu hasil sebuah analisis. Hasil dari peneitian ini adalah paparan mengenai pemenuhan hirarki kebutuhan tokoh, motivasi tokoh, dan karakteristik tokoh setelah merefleksi diri. Hierarki kebutuhan yang terpenuhi dalam novel Pesantren Impian karya Asma Nadia meliputi kebutuhan fisiologis, kebutuhan rasa aman, kebutuhan rasa dimiliki dan memiliki, kebutuhan harga diri dan aktualisasi diri. Sedangkan motivasi tokoh untuk merefleksi diri merupakan dorongan/keinginan tokoh untuk mendapatkan sesuatu, dalam hal ini adalah kehidupan yang lebih baik di masa mendatang. Tokoh yang merefleksi diri menunjukkan karakteristik yang berbeda-bedamulai dari perubahan penampilan sampai pada psikologis tokoh.   This study aims to describe the self-reflection of the character in the novel Pesentren Impian by Asma Nadia which is associated with self-motivation and the fulfillment of the needs of Abraham Maslow. The method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collected in the form of a text in the novel Pesantren Impian by Asma Nadia. Data collection is done by reading data sources. Then classifying the data, the data are separated based on problems and research objectives. The data that has been interpreted is then explained in the form of language exposure as a result of an analysis. The results of this research are exposure to the fulfillment of the hierarchy of character needs, character motivation, and character characteristics after self-reflection. The hierarchy of needs fulfilled in the novel Pesantren Impian by Asma Nadia includes physiological needs, security needs, sense of belonging and belonging, self-esteem needs and self-actualization. While the motivation of the character to reflect on himself is the drive / desire of the character to get something, in this case is a better life in the future. People who reflect themselves show different characteristics ranging from changes in appearance to psychological character.
