This experiment was conducted to determine the ensiling characteristics and microbial changes of fodder ramie silage treated without additive (Control), or with molasses (M), lactic acid bacteria (LAB), and mixtures of lactic acid bacteria and molasses (LABM). Triplicate samples were randomly opened on days 0, 3, 7, 14, 28 and 60 of ensiling for sampling and the contents were processed for quality assessment and laboratory analysis. Compared with control silage, addition of M and LABM decreased pH and butyric acid while increasing lactic acid during ensiling (P < 0.05). For the LAB treatment, the pH value declined slowly at initial days then kept relatively stable at about 5.39 and the concentration of lactic acid increased for the first 7 days then maintained stable until day 60. The control silage showed a rise in pH and a significant decline in lactic acid concentration at later stage. Microbial changes had similar trend during ensiling for all the treatments where the lactic acid bacteria increased at initial days then showed a decline at later stage. Furthermore, LAB treatment had the highest (P<0.05) lactic acid bacteria population at almost all ensiling periods. It was concluded that both M and LABM treatment can improve the fermentation quality of fodder ramie silage to some extent, but the effects of adding lactic acid bacteria still need further research.

This paper presents comparative studies of preanalytical quality indices of vacuum gel systems (VGS) from four manufacturers, i.e., GL 795 (China), Vacuette (Austria), BD Vacutainer SST (USA) and Zdravmedtech (Russia). The analysis of the number of qualitative defects of the preanalytic phase of blood collection in vacuum gel tubes at the inpatient departments and in Department of Clinical Chemistry (preanalytic laboratory), in accordance with adopted criteria based on Russian industry standards, which are implemented with European indices of pre-analytic stage. The obtained results allowed us to identify a number of qualitative defects at pre-analytic stage for the vacuum gel systems from each manufacturer, including to summarize the data on number of these defects. Based on these results, the most common defects in each of the VGS presented by manufacturers are formulated. The results obtained can be used by manufacturers to improve the quality (structures) of the mentioned vacuum gel tubes. The results of the comparative characteristics of VGS of different manufacturers were evaluated by their influence on the indexes of hemolysis (IH), ictericity, lipemia. The resulting indices of ictericity and lipemia do not allow to use them as criteria for assessing quality of the gel systems. The frequency of IH occurrence in serum at > 50 conventional units in VGS of different manufacturers was studied. It was revealed, that IH in the range from 10 to 50 conventional units and more, can be used as a criterion of VGS quality.Comparison of routine biochemical parameters in VGS of different manufacturers, i.e., alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, direct bilirubin, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), serum K+, was also carried out. It was found that the largest deviations from the average value were obtained for aspartate aminotransferase indices of more than 12.47% in Russian test tubes, and for direct bilirubin of more than 12.25% in Chinese test tubes and more than 9.15% in Russian test tubes. The study showed influence of IH upon quantitative values of lactate dehydrogenase for VGS from different manufacturers. It is proposed to use lactate dehydrogenase as an analyte. On this basis, it is possible to recommend a comparative quality assessment of vacuum gel systems, with IH cutoff level of more than 19 conventional units. It remains relevant to search for other analytes that can be used to assess the quality of VGS from different manufacturers. Some areas of research in biochemical testing are outlined. Preliminary data are obtained on usage of vacuum systems from different manufacturers for quality assessment, as well as conditions for performing these tests, along with the level of the hemolysis index of more than 10 conventional units.

In the experiment, 367 hybrid meat pigs were tested. Transport of all observed pigs took 1 hour to get to a slaughterhouse. The housing period of the observed groups in the slaughterhouse took 1, 2, 4, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, and 41 hours. The pH value was measured in the musculus longissimus dorsi (MLD) as well as in musculus semimembranosus in the thigh meat (MSM) 45 minutes after slaughter. The highest average pH MLD value (6.36) was recorded in the group of pigs that were housed in the slaughterhouse for the shortest period of time. The average pH MLD value in pigs with the shortest period of housing was statistically arguably higher (P<0.01) in comparison with the groups that were housed in the slaughterhouse from 4 - 17 hours. The group of pigs with the shortest housing period of time had also achieved the highest average value (6.45?0.27) of the pH MSM indicator. Compared to that group, a provably lower average of pH MSM values were recorded in groups with the length of housing 13, 14, and 17 hours (P<0.01). It has resulted from the experiment that after a short - lasting transport it is desirable, in terms of pork quality, to slaughter the animals as soon as possible after their arrival to the slaughterhouse. An animal that is slaughtered after a 12- hour housing might mean a threat for the increased occurence of the PSE meat due to the consequence of stress caused during the stay in the slaughterhouse.

Abstract During 2005-2010, we measured pH and conductivity values in the watercourse Čaradice stream, which flows from its spring in Pohronský Inovec Mountains. The average pH value for the whole research period was 7.76. Depending on the time of sampling, its maximum average value for the whole period was found in July and August (7.96) and minimum average value was detected in the month of January (7.64). Depending on the sampling sites, its lowest average value for the whole period was recorded under the forest eco-system of Pohronský Inovec (7.39) and the highest under the water reservoir (8.0), which could have been caused by a greater number of autotrophic organisms in the water of the water reservoir, which reduced soluble CO2 from the water. The average conductivity value for the whole research period was 39.72 mS.m-1. The lowest average value, depending on the sampling time throughout the research period, was found in March (23.49 mS.m-1) which was probably caused by snowmelt and higher water flow in the watercourse, and maximum in the month of September (54,88 mS.m-1). Depending on the sampling sites, the highest average value (51.62 mS.m-1) was found near the village Kozárovce, which is possibly caused by releasing unclean wastewater into the watercourse, as the wastewater treatment plant has not been built in the village.

In the present study analysed Groundwater quality of Hard rock terrain in Bengaluru North, Karnataka, India. For the present study areas affected by industrialization were selected to measure the quality of Groundwater for determining its fitness for domestic use. Bore well samples from each part of the study area were analysed for Physio - chemical variations and quality of groundwater. Comparison of Physio - chemical analysis results with Indian Standard drinking water limits shows that all groundwater samples except few are fit for drinking and irrigation purposes. The average value of pH of five villages is 7.5-8.0 which is within desired limit. However, the pH value is increasing so it may be unfit for the future use. About 50% of Water samples containing chloride in excess of 250mg/l are considered undesirable for drinking purposes which may lead to cardiovascular diseases. The concentration of sulphate for each sample of villages is within desirable limit. Also it is found that 25% of samples containing total hardness more than 300 mg/l which is undesirable. In future there may be threat of decrease in groundwater quality. Public awareness must be created among the citizens about the importance of lakes/tanks and give awareness about importance of quality of Groundwater and surface water.
