Nuisance for the people living in areas covered by the direct or indirect impact of the mining industry is an important social problem. The development of the mining industry depends on high environmental requirements, in particular, it is closely related to the fulfillment of obligations of safety for human health and life. Through consultation with the local society and targeted actions degraded land can become attractive. In contrast, the lack of reclamation leads to the intensification of negative phenomena: erosion, surface mass movements, changes in the ecosystem, eutrophication of water tanks. Maintaining balance in the natural environment is the basic criterion for the proper functioning of industrial facilities. Mining activity is a threat to the environment, including human health and life. Use of the environment by mining is subject to adjustment to the legislation and carrying out mining activities in line with environmental requirements. Mining activities and nature protection can operate in a sustainable manner. Appropriate selection of methods for mineral exploitation allows you to minimize the impact on the environment components. The positive impact of opencast mining is reflected in the creation of new habitats of plants and animals in post-mining areas, in the creation of new recreation places, in diversifying the landscape thanks to the construction of water reservoirs. Lakes formed after use of natural aggregates overgrown vegetation reed, acting as a convenient place to settle the water birds.

Natural resources in the mining sector are one of the natural resources in Indonesia. The sector produces various types of mining commodities that have different economic values. Ngawi Regency is one of the regions in East Java Province which has potential in the mining sector. One of the potential of the mine is group C excavation material. Since the construction of toll roads in the Ngawi Regency area, demand for mining products in the form of class C excavation materials as materials for toll road construction has increased rapidly. This has encouraged the growth of mining businesses in the region. Mining activities or businesses in addition to having a positive impact, such as the absorption of labor, also cause various negative impacts that affect the welfare of the community. Employment in the mining sector is indeed wide open which then causes people to switch from various sectors of employment to employment in the mining sector. The shift of employment to the mining sector has an impact on rising levels of income. However, this does not significantly affect the level of community welfare.

The oil mining was firstly performed in Musi Banyuasin Regency by the end of the 1990s as performed by the people on old wells of Standard Vacuum Oil Company which was no longer engaged in oil production activities. The crude oil is then refined into gasoline (premium), kerosene and gas oil (solar). Due to the increasing oil mining activities, the local government of Musi Banyuasin Regency stipulated a Local Regulation No.27 of 2006 concerning the sale of public oil mining products. In this local regulation, people are only paid for their work drawing out the crude oil, which is valued at a low price and is not suited with the workload. Since then, the people have not only performed mining for crude oil from old wells, but also by performing their own mining activities, especially for the mining field with a depth of 100 - 200 meters. The result is that the crude oil trade in the Musi Banyuasin Regency is increasingly widespread, either for the crude or distilled oil. This study aimed to describe, analyze and interpret social impact, environmental risks and multiplier effect of illegal public oil mining. This study used the paradigm of critical theory. The results showed there are some social impacts on people's lives in the mining and refinery sites. The positive impact is the shift of livelihood activities, from rubber farmers to oil miners, both as investors, traders, workers and oil takers, so that the multiplier effect of this activity is highly perceived by the community in their lives. The negative impact is the polarization in the life of society, such as gambling, drug distribution, red-light district and environmental degradation due to oil spills and distillation.

Mining activities are sometimes related to mining companies in the middle of community settlements. Mining business permits owned by companies from the government are considered not strong enough to be able to gain community acceptance. Indirectly, the company needs a social permit from the community to ensure that its activities run smoothly. An intensive approach to the community is considered to increase community acceptance of mining activities. The company or the mine manager needs to build trust in the community first, because when the community already believes it will be easier to get acceptance from the community. This study aims to analyze the effect of Procedural Fairness, Intimacy of Contact, and Trust on Acceptance of Mining from people living around mining areas. This study involved 203 people living in the area around the mine in Lampung Province, Indonesia. The results of this study note that the Intimacy of Contact does not affect community Trust and Acceptance of Mining, while Procedural Fairness and Trust have a positive effect on community Acceptance of Mining
