Adsorption technologies used for gas desulfurization are a widespread technique which, due to its relative simplicity, are widely used to the purification smaller volumes of gas. However, for their trouble-free and economical use, it is necessary to respect several basic requirements for the selection of suitable types of adsorbents with respect to the specific composition of the purified gas. The article provides a brief overview of the history of the development of adsorption technologies and also provides several different examples of the operational use of this technology for the purification of gases containing high concentrations of sulfur substances. Furthermore, the principles of correct selection of a suitable adsorbent for specific application cases are also specified here. Iron oxide adsorbents were used in the early times of the operation of the technology, which were inexpensive but had a relatively low sorption capacity for sulfur compounds. Therefore, sorbents based on iron oxides have been gradually replaced by more powerful, but also more expensive sorbents based on activated carbon. Initially, activated carbon without impregnation was used, the production of which took place in the Czech Republic on an industrial scale. By the further development of impregnated types of activated carbon and their introduction into industrial production, these adsorbents have been also used in adsorption technologies intended for gas desulfurization. Their sorption capacity is much higher in comparison with non-impregnated types of activated carbon, because the impregnants used convert sulfur compounds from gas into non-volatile substances (elemental sulfur, sulfides, polysulfides). This ensures a long service life of the adsorbent and high efficiency of gas purification from sul-fur substances.

For the determination of a potential benefit from creation of a distribution centre the paper proposes a method and presents results of calculation of a decrease of total number of rides and total run of automobiles at various variants of goods consolidation. The authors have established a positive influence of the centre on intracity transportation. At the same time, high efficiency of the considered technology can be reached by involvement of a bigger number of consignees and by consolidation of a relatively small number of goods batches in one automobile at efficient routing and correct selection of location of a distribution centre.

Combinatorial methods of chemical synthesis allow the creation of molecular libraries having immense diversity. The utility of such libraries is dependent upon identifying the structures of the molecules so prepared. We describe the construction of a peptide combinatorial library, having 117,649 different members, synthesized on beads and indexed with inert chemical tags. These tags are used as a binary code to record the reaction history of each bead. The code can be read directly from a single bead by electron capture capillary gas chromatography. We demonstrate the correct selection of members of the library on the basis of binding to a monoclonal antibody.

Resveratrol (3,5,4′-trihydroxystilbene) is a natural compound that can be found in high concentrations in red wine and in many typical foods found in human diet. Over the past decades, resveratrol has been widely investigated for its potential beneficial effects on human health. At the same time, numerous analytical methods have been developed for the quantitative determination of resveratrol isomers in oenological and food matrices. In the present work, we developed a very fast and sensitive GC–MS method for the determination of resveratrol in red wine based on ethylchloroformate derivatization. Since this reaction occurs directly in the water phase during the extraction process itself, it has the advantage of significantly reducing the overall processing time for the sample. This method presents low limits of quantification (LOQ) (25 ng/mL and 50 ng/mL for cis- and trans-resveratrol, respectively) and excellent accuracy and precision. Ethylchloroformate derivatization was successfully applied to the analysis of resveratrol isomers in a selection of 15 commercial Italian red wines, providing concentration values comparable to those reported in other studies. As this method can be easily extended to other classes of molecules present in red wine, it allows further development of new GC–MS methods for the molecular profiling of oenological matrices.

The molten hydroxide electrolyte Direct Carbon Fuel Cell (MH-DCFC) is a promising type of DCFC due to its advantages, such as high ionic conductivity, higher electrochemical activity of carbon (higher anodic oxidation rate and lower overpotentials) and high efficiency of carbon oxidation due to lower operating temperature (the dominant product of carbon oxidation is CO2 vs. CO). Accordingly, the MH-DCFC can be operated at lower temperatures (roughly 673–873 K), and thus cheaper materials can be used to manufacture the cell. Nonetheless, MH-DCFCs are still under development due to several fundamental and technological challenges such as corrosion problems. Selection of materials and development of a structure that ensures adequate availability and durability of the cell is crucial for the optimization of the MH-DCFC performance and the further development of that technology. This article presents the operating characteristics of the MH-DCFC made of different construction materials, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and nickel and its alloys. Nickel and its alloys have proven to be the best materials for the construction of individual elements of the fuel cell. Inconel alloy 600 was a good catalytic material for cathodes with good corrosion resistance.

Process and Reality ends with a warning: ‘[t]he chief danger to philosophy is narrowness in the selection of evidence’ (PR, 337). Although this danger of narrowness might emerge from the ‘idiosyncrasies and timidities of particular authors, of particular social groups, of particular schools of thought, of particular epochs in the history of civilization’ (PR, 337), we should not be mistaken: it occurs within philosophy, in its activity, its method. And the fact that this issue arises at the end of Process and Reality reveals the ambition that has accompanied its composition: Whitehead has resisted this danger through the form and ambition of his speculative construction. The temptation of a narrowness in selection attempts to expel speculative philosophy at the same time as it haunts each part of its system.

The paper explores the displace of Polish archives from the Soviet Union that was performed in 1920s according to the Riga Peace Treaty of 1921 and other international agreements. The aim of the research is to reconstruct the process of displace, based on the archival sources and literature. The object of the research is those documents that were preserved in the archives of Belarus and together with archives from other republics were displaced to Poland. The exploration leads to clarification of the selection of document fonds to be displaced, the actual process of movement and the explanation of the role that the archivists of Belarus performed in the history of cultural relationships between Poland and the Soviet Union. The articles of the Treaty of Riga had been formulated without taking into account the indivisibility of archive fonds that is one of the most important principles of restitution, which caused the failure of the treaty by the Soviet part.

The profound changes within the Albanian society, including Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia, before and after they proclaimed independence (in exception of Albania), with the establishment of the parliamentary system resulted in mass spread social negative consequences such as crime, drugs, prostitution, child beggars on the street etc. As a result of these occurred circumstances emerged a substantial need for changes within the legal system in order to meet and achieve the European standards or behaviors and the need for adoption of many laws imported from abroad, but without actually reading the factual situation of the psycho-economic position of the citizens and the consequences of the peoples’ occupations without proper compensation, as a remedy for the victims of war or peace in these countries. The sad truth is that the perpetrators not only weren’t sanctioned, but these regions remained an untouched haven for further development of criminal activities, be it from the public state officials through property privatization or in the private field. The organized crime groups, almost in all cases, are perceived by the human mind as “Mafia” and it is a fact that this cannot be denied easily. The widely spread term “Mafia” is mostly known around the world to define criminal organizations. The Balkan Peninsula is highly involved in these illegal groups of organized crime whose practice of criminal activities is largely extended through the Balkan countries such as Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro, etc. Many factors contributed to these strategic countries to be part of these types of activities. In general, some of the countries have been affected more specifically, but in all of the abovementioned countries organized crime has affected all areas of life, leaving a black mark in the history of these states.
