scholarly journals The Effect of Humour in Minimizing Stress among Engineering Students

The world’s economic development has demanded a university to produce more skilful and competitive students. Therefore, the university has played a significant role in designing the best curriculum which is in line with the market need. Fulfilling those demands and needs, students must meet all the requirements stipulated by the curriculum but somehow, some of the students are experiencing stress due to their inability to meet the university's curriculum requirements. Although the students are under pressure they are still able to control it by using humour. Based on a study conducted on 200 university students, the results showed that the level of stress among students was a moderate level with symptoms such as dry mouth and hands shaking. In addition, the findings indicated that academic factor has a strong influence on students’ stress rather than financial and family factors. However, the results also indicated that students are able to control their stress levels based on their own attitude of humour namely; the affiliative humour and the self-enhancing humour.

The management of mobility in large cities is a complex issue of great interest due to its economic, social, and environmental impact. In this work, the interurban mobility of engineering students from two campuses of the University of Seville is studied. Specifically, this work carries out an analysis of the preferences of students in terms of mobility to their study centres and determines the environmental impact of such mobility in terms of kg of CO2 per student. Three constructs can be found to describe the motivation for their choice of transport: those related to comfort and speed, those related to sustainability and price, and those related to safety. Based on the responses obtained, groups of students are established that enable the design of specific actions in accordance with each of the profiles. From the analysis of the results obtained, recommendations are made for policymakers, and a reflection is given on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on this issue.

Abstract. The main purpose of this research is to know whether there is connection between self efficacy academic and social support parents with self adaptation of University Students. The research subject was 100 University Nusantara PGRI Kediri students consisting of 42 boys and 58 girls which was taken random and having caractesistis of the first grade of the University students and staying together with their own parents. The data of the self adaptation of the University students was obtained from the scale of self actualization. The data of the scale self efficiacy academic was also obtained from the scale of self efficacy academic. The data of social support parents was received from the scale of social support parents. The resulf of this analysis of multiple regression are from maximum R = 0,684; F = 42,717; p = 0,000 (p < 0,01). The resulf of this data analysis showing that the self efficacy academic and social support are integrated to self adaptation of the University students. The result of the analysis academic self efficacy correlation with self actualization of the University students was obtained r partial = 0,632; t = 8, 039 with p = 0,000 (p < 0,01). This data shows that there is positive correlation between academic self efficacy and self actualization. The hypothesis of the research classifying that there is correlation between them and it is acceptable. The out come of the analysis social support parents correlation with self adaption of the University students was attained r partial = 0,159; t = 1,582 with p = 0,117 (p > 0,05). This data indicates that the variable of the social support is isolated and it is not related to the self adaptation. The hypothesis of the research indicates that there is positive connection between social support and self actualization and there fore it is unacceptable or avoided. This is because of another factor that influences self adaptation of the University students a part from social support of the parents. Key word: Self adaptation, Self efficacy academic, Sosial support parents.

University students are among those who are responsible in setting the goals of national development. Therefore, they should possess good values in which portraying their personal identities, thus reflects the multiracial culture of Malaysia. However, a number of incidents such as the issue of National Anthem (Negaraku), AUKU conflicts, campus political extremes, gangsters’, conflict of identity and so on do ruin their images as the ones who are intellectuals. This condition leads to the question of students’ nationalism, particularly engineering students, where they are more concentrating on their technical courses compared to university requirement courses. This research was a survey designed research. The objectives of the research were (i) to determine the engineering students’ level of appreciation towards Malaysian Nationhood course, (ii) to determine students’ perception towards Malaysian Nationhood course, and (iii) to identify the students’ preferences on university courses. A total of 200 students were randomly selected as the respondents of the research. The frequencies and percentages were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Findings showed that the engineering students’ level of appreciation towards the Malaysian Nationhood course was at moderate level as they perceived the attendance to the course was mandatory. Almost students agreed that they would not enroll in the course if they were given the choice. Overall, it showed that the students attended the class as it was a compulsory course set by the ministry. The findings portrayed the students’ nationalism.  Based on these findings, it is suggested that a more comprehensive modules and approaches which fulfill the needs of students should be prepared in order to emphasize the importance of nationalism among the students.
