Teeth are known as organs made up of the hardest mineral tissue that is resistant to decay and physical, thermal, mechanical, chemical or biological damage. Tooth crown dimensions are reasonably accurate predictors of genders especially to young individuals whose secondary skeletal characteristics are yet developed. This research aims to analyse the influence of genders to the width of maxillary central incisor Minangkabaunese. The study was conducted using cross-sectional method in Luhak Agam, Luhak Tanah Datar and Luhak Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra using simple random sampling technique to a total of 120 samples. Teeth width was measured in mesiodistal dimension with 0.01 mm calibrated sliding digital caliper. The measurement was done on a tooth mould at ⅓ incisal as the position of mesial and biggest distar. T-test independent statistic test was done to determine the relationship between the 2 variables. Sexual dimorphism was determined with Garn formula. The research shows significant difference (p=0.001) between the width of left and right central incisor in males and females. The average width of the male and female right maxillary incisor is 8.545 mm and 8.370 mm, while the left central incisor width is 8.877 mm in male and 8.283 mm in females. Sexual dimorphism on the right central incisor is 2.09% and 3.43% on the left side. The conclusion of the study is that maxillary central incisor width can distinguish different genders in the identification process.

Background: Hypertension has a great impact on cardiovascular disease and death all over the world. Low and middle-income countries including Nepal are facing higher disease burden because of complications arise from uncontrolled hypertension. Patient’s knowledge and perception play an important role for the proper management of hypertension. There are limited studies related to knowledge and perception of hypertension, therefore, this study aimed to assess the knowledge and perception of hypertension among hypertensive patients at a tertiary hospital in Nepal. Methods: This is a hospital based, mixed-method, cross-sectional study which was conducted among 400 hypertensive patients in the outpatient department of Sahid Gangalal National Heart Center, Kathmandu, Nepal. Patients who were diagnosed as hypertensive at least 6 months before were selected by simple random sampling technique and were interviewed using semi- structured questionnaire, and interview schedule from March to May 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.    Results: The mean age of the respondents was 58.86 ±11.07 years and nearly half (47.8%) of them were in the age group of 60 years and above. More than half, (58%) were male, 77.8% were overweight, about half of them had a significant family history of hypertension with first degree relatives. Regarding the knowledge, the total mean score was 16.16±3.032 and had significant difference with age (p= 0.002), gender (p=.000), education (p=0.002), occupation (p=0.000), and duration of HTN diagnosis (p=0.000). Majority of them perceived hypertension as less serious illness and had significant difference with education level (p=0.001) and duration of HTN diagnosis (p=0.000). Conclusions: Majority of participants had inadequate knowledge of hypertension and they perceived hypertension as less severe illness which might hinder the adherence to treatment recommendations. Hence, mass awareness program strategies might be helpful to increase hypertension related knowledge and perception.

Abstract Background Cancer of the prostate (CaP) is a public health problem that affects the male genitourinary system causing a significant threat to men’s quality of life (QoL). Experiencing financial constraints and poor illness perception may further compromise the QoL of men with CaP. Methods Aim: To examine the relationship between financial toxicity and illness perception with quality of life in men with CaP. The descriptive cross-sectional study used simple random sampling technique to recruit 173 men with CaP from four tertiary health facilities in Nigeria. Data were collected with the comprehensive score for financial toxicity (COST-FACIT), the brief illness perception questionnaire (Brief IPQ) and the functional assessment of cancer therapy-prostate (FACT-P). Analysis of data was carried out using analysis of variance, correlation and hierarchical regression analyses. Results The 173 participants had an average age of 71.57 ± 11.18, and 53.18% had one comorbid disease. Significant difference was found in overall QoL based on treatment site and number of comorbid diseases (P < 0.01). QoL had a significant inverse relationship with all the illness perception variables and a significant linear relationship with lower financial toxicity (P < 0.01). Furthermore, financial toxicity (P < 0.05) and four illness perception variables: consequences, identity, concern and illness understanding (P < 0.01), had significant individual influences on QoL of men with CaP. Conclusions Quality of life in men with CaP may be improved through mitigating the financial toxicity associated with accessing care and providing appropriate counseling about the illness and what to expect following prostate cancer diagnosis and during treatment.

Employees’ organizational commitment is considered as a crucial issue in higher education setting for realizing institutional vision, attaining its goals, and uplifting employees’ motivation to achieve better work performance.  This subject has, therefore, been studied so as to draw attention to enhance the effectiveness of Ethiopian higher education institutions with particular reference to Haramaya University. Thus, the main objective of this study was to assess academic staffs’ level of organizational commitment. In addition, the study assessed whether there exist a significant difference in academic staffs’ level of organizational commitment in terms of their gender and level of education. A cross-sectional research design was employed in the study. Primary and secondary data sources were used. A commitment scale questionnaire was used to collect data from 275 participants who were selected using stratified random sampling technique as well as further information about the study were also collected using focus group discussion and document review. The quantitative data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics; the qualitative data were analyzed using content and narration methods of data analysis. The study revealed that academic staffs of the university have moderate level of organizational commitment. With this level of organizational commitment, it is less likely to attain both individual work performance objectives and organizational missions and vision of the university. In addition, there were relative implications of turnover, turnover intention, absenteeism, and demotivation among academic staffs. The study further revealed that although there is no significant difference in level of commitment with reference to gender, academic staffs’ level of organizational commitment was significantly different with reference to their level of education. Thus, it is recommended that the working environment of the university is revisited by giving due emphasis to and addressing the determinants that lower the organizational commitment of the staff.
