A research on the cytotoxic activity of several variants leaves of the soursop (Anona muricata Linn). Soursop leaf is processed into three kinds of tea leaves are green tea, black tea, oolong tea. Cytotoxic activity test was conducted using "Brine Shrimp Lethality Test". LC50 value of the three extracts of the leaves of the soursop is 102.32 ppm for ethanol extract of green tea, black tea 38.01 ppm and 63.09 ppm for oolong tea. Soursop leaf tea processing techniques can affect the cytotoxic activity.

<p><em>Teh merupakan salah satu minuman yang banyak dikonsumsi oleh masyarakat setelah air.   Berbagai macam jenis daun telah diolah menjadi teh oleh masyarakat seperti daun sirsak. Manfaat yang diharapkan dari mengkonsumsi teh daun sirsak adalah sebagai sumber antioksidan yang dapat menangkal berbagai jenis penyakit karena adanya kandungan acetogenin. Untuk menghasilkan teh yang bermutu tinggi, penanganan pucuk pasca panen perlu dilakukan dengan teknik sebaik mungkin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak teh daun sirsak berdasarkan variasi teknik pengolahan teh. Pengolahan dilakukan dengan 3 (tiga) variasi teknik pengolahan teh yaitu teh hijau, teh hitam dan teh oolong. Uji aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan metoda penangkapan radikal bebas menggunakan DPPH (1,1-Difenil-2-pikrihidrazil).  Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa persentase inhibisi teh hijau sebesar 42,776%, teh oolong 39,962%, dan teh hitam 43,902%.  Aktivitas antioksidan tertinggi didapatkan pada pengolahan teh hitam daun sirsak.  Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa perbedaan teknik pengolahan teh tidak memberikan pengaruh terhadap aktivitas antioksidan.</em></p><p><em><br /></em></p><p><em><em>Tea is one drink that is widely consumed by people after water. Various types of leaves have been processed into tea by the people such as soursop leaves. The expected benefits of consuming soursop leaf tea is as a source of antioxidants that can ward off various types of diseases due to the presence of acetogenin. To produce high quality tea, handling after harvest needs to be done with the best possible technique. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of soursop leaf tea extract based on variations in tea processing techniques. Processing is done with 3 (three) variations of tea processing techniques, there are green tea, black tea and oolong tea. The antioxidant activity test was carried out by the method of capturing free radicals using DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-pikrihidrazil). The results showed that the percentage of inhibition of green tea was 42.777%, oolong tea was 39.962%, and black tea was 43.902%. The highest antioxidant activity was found in the processing of soursop leaf is a black tea. From the results of this study can concluded there are differences in tea processing techniques do not affect the antioxidant activity</em></em></p>

Papua has a diversity of flora species, one of which is the Papuan Grape (Sararanga sinuosa Hemsley). It is commonly used by the Depapre community, Jayapura, as a stamina booster. This research aims to identify the secondary metabolite compounds, to test the cytotoxic activity of Papuan Grape (Sararanga sinuosa Hemsley) extract, and to determine the best concentration that inhabits the growth of Artemia salina larvae using the BSLT method. This study was conducted with the extraction stage using the maceration method by making use of 96% ethanol solvent. Subsequently, the concentration series 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 ppm of Papuan Grape (Sararanga sinuosa Hemsley) extract were made to test the cytotoxic activity on the mortality of Artemia salina shrimp larvae. The results showed that Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Saponins, and Tannins were compounded as secondary metabolite. An antioxidant research that had been carried out previously had LC50 of green-white fruit (12,49 ± 0,35 mg/ml), orange-red fruit (17,62 ± 3,49 mg/ml) and red fruit (12,23 ± 0,46 mg/ml). The community process one stalk of it into juice and used or consumed it two times a day. An inappropriate dose of traditional medicine usage can affect the organ system and had adverse effects in the future The result of cytotoxic research obtained the value of LC50 in ethanol extract of Papuan Grape was 140,863 ppm, and concentration of 250 ppm was the best concentration to inhibit the growth of shrimp larvae (Artemia salina L). The conclusion of this study was the ethanol extract of Papuan Grape (Sararanga sinuosa Hemsley) showed the highest cytotoxic activity and potentially become an anti-cancer agent.

The Bohadschia argus Jeager contains bioactive compounds that have the potential as antibiotics, antibacterial, antitumor, anticoagulants and anesthetics and alleviate cancer. This study aims to determine the content of chemical compounds group and to test the cytotoxic activity of ethanol extract of Bohadschia argus Jeager. The method for determining the group of chemical compounds was used the color reaction and precipitation using chemical reagents. The method for testing cytotoxic activity using the Brine Shimp Lethality Test (BSLT), this method commonly was used to test the safety of the use of natural ingredients as traditional medicine. The results of screening of the chemical compound group of  Bohadschia argus Jeager extract showed that the extract contained a lot of alkaloids secondary metabolites and few saponins. The results of testing of cytotoxic activity showed LC50 value of 878.22 ppm. Base on the results of this study it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Bohadschia argus Jeager has significant cytotoxic activity against Artemia salina Leach, so it can be considered as a chemotherapeutic agent.   Key words: Screening, chemical compounds, ethanol extract, B. argus, BSLT.

Tannase was effectively immobilized on alginate by the method of crosslinking-entrapment-crosslinking with a high activity recovery of 76.6%. The properties of immobilized tannase were investigated. Its optimum temperature was determined to be 35 ° C, decreasing 10 °C compared with that of free enzyme, whereas the optimum pH of 5.0 did not change. The thermal and pH stabilities of immobilized tannase increased to some degree. The kinetic parameter, Km, for immobilized tannase was estimated to be 11.6 × 10-4 mol/L. Fe2+ and Mn2+ could activate the activity of immobilized tannase. The immobilized tannase was also applied to treat the tea beverage to investigate its haze-removing effect. The content of non-estern catechins in green tea, black tea and oolong tea increased by 52.17%, 12.94% and 8.83%, respectively. The content of estern catechins in green tea, oolong tea and black tea decreased by 20.0%, 16.68% and 5.04%, respectively. The anti-sediment effect of green tea infusion treated with immobilized tannase was significantly increased. The storage stability and reusability of the immobilized tannase were improved greatly, with 72.5% activity retention after stored for 42 days and 86.9% residual activity after repeatedly used for 30 times.

Background: Tea is a refreshing drink that contains polyphenol compounds, namely catechins that are used for medicine and cosmetics. This study was to assess the content of catechin compounds in green tea, oolong and black tea products from Indonesia, China and Taiwan. Methods: Some tea products are brewed at varying temperatures (75±2; 85±2 and 95±20 C) and times (5; 10 and 15 minutes). Identification of catechin compounds was carried out using chemical reagents and UV spectrophotometry. The level of cathecin in tea products were analyzed by spectrophotometer at 280 nm wavelength. Results: The results obtained indicate that green tea, oolong tea and black tea contain epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) compounds according to the color change based on chemical reagents and for UV spectrum analysis which has λmax in the range 268-274 nm. The results of quantitative tests using UV-Vis spectrophotometry showed that the green tea samples gave the highest levels of catechins followed by oolong tea and black tea with brewing temperature at 95±20 °C. Conclusion: The catechin content of tea obtained from various products varies according to the type of processing method and the brewing temperature. Therefore, this study is expected to provide information related to catechin content to the public and researchers.

Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is known to have ability to protect skin against free radicals. This is supported by polyphenol compound catechin. This research aims to determine the optimum Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) value of Tween 60 and Span 80 compositions on the optimum cream formula of ethanol extract of green tea leaves. Tea leaves are extracted by macerating using 70% ethanol. Catechin in extract is known from Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) test with silica gel 60 F254 as stationary phase and ethyl acetate:aquadest:formic acid (18:1:1 v/v) as mobile phase. Antioxidant activity is determined by 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl (DPPH) method and value of Inhibition Concentration 50% (IC50) is then calculated. Formula optimization using Design Expert® version 7.1.5 (DX 7) software, Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) method with two components Tween 60 and Span 80. Cream is characterized according to physical properties organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, and cream type. The optimum formula obtained is then tested for physical stability for 4 weeks at room temperature (28±2°C) and data are statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA. The extract contains catechin proved with Retention factor (Rf) value 0.8 and has antioxidant activity with IC50 value 56.35 ppm. 6.4% Tween 60 and 3.6% Span 80 result an optimum HLB value 11.1. It has viscosity 2897.50±35.94 mPa.s, spreadability 18.44±0.06 cm2, adhesiveness 0.85±0.05 seconds, and pH 4.530±0.002. Statistical test shows that the cream is significantly altered at pH, but does not significantly change in viscosity, spreadability, and adhesiveness after being stored for 4 weeks.

<p><em>Smoking </em><em>can </em><em>enhance </em><em>free radicals on blood plasma. Many previous studies proved that tea is a source of antioxidants which might reduce free radicals. Green tea is known to have the higher antioxidant capacity compared to </em><em>black tea</em><em>.</em><em> This study aim</em><em>s </em><em>to analyze the effect </em><em>of green tea on reduction of free radicals on moderate smokers</em><em>, using a pre-post experimental design. </em><em>Green tea infusions were prepared with commercially available dried tea leaves (Green Tea Gamboeng Series) from the </em><em>Research</em><em> </em><em>Centers of Tea</em><em> </em><em>and</em><em> </em><em>Cinchona</em><em> Gambung, West Java. </em><em>Nine moderate smokers (11-21 cig/day) aged 30-45 years were instructed to drink 200 ml green tea three times a day for </em><em>four</em><em> weeks. Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) of blood serum was measured at baseline and after four weeks intervention period. The level of TAC significantly increased from 1.18 m mol/L to 1.34 m mol/L after </em><em>four</em><em> weeks intervention (P=0.000). These results prove that drinking 200 ml of green tea </em><em>three</em><em> times a day for </em><em>four</em><em> weeks has a significant benefit reduc</em><em>ing f</em><em>ree radicals of moderate smokers. Moderate smokers are advised to consume green tea continuously to sustain these positive effects.</em><em></em></p>

The antimutagenic effects of various tea extracts prepared from nonfermented tea (green tea), semifermented tea (oolong tea and pouchong tea), and fermented tea (black tea) were investigated by Salmonella/microsome assay. No mutagenicity or toxicity in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 was observed with any tea extract. The tea extracts markedly inhibited the mutagenicity of 2-amino-3-methylimidazo(4,5-f)quinoline, 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-5H-pyridol(4,3-b)indole,2-amino-6-methyldipyrido(l,2-a:3′,2′-d)imidazole, benzo[a]pyrene, and aflatoxin B1 toward S. typhimurium TA98 and TA100 in the presence of S9 mixture, especially those of oolong and pouchong teas inhibited over 90% mutagenicity of these five mutagens at the dosage of 1 mg per plate. Among four tea extracts, black tea exhibited the weakest inhibitory effect on mutagenicity of these five mutagens. The mutagenicity of 4-nitroquinoline-N-oxide, a direct mutagen, was not inhibited by black and oolong tea extracts to S. typhimurium TA98 in the absence of S9 mixture but was increased by the tea extracts at the dose of 1 mg per plate to S. typhimurium TA100. As the antimutagenic effect of semifermented tea was stronger than nonfermented and fermented teas, some antimutagenic substances might be formed during manufacturing processes of tea.
