The main problem that arises from grinding metal is the generation of a large amount of heat. Exceeding a critical temperature will damage the part. However, determining the heat of the metal being processed is a difficult task both practically and theoretically. The correct choice of parameters for the abrasive processing is essential to obtain the required quality. This article describes a mathematical model that simulates the determination of the maximum heat on the surface of a metal part during grinding. This model features the ability to change the initial parameters so that the resulting temperature does not exceed the critical one. The model has been tested by a specially developed web application written in JavaScript. It not only calculates the highest temperature in the machining zone of the workpiece, but also optimizes the thermal grinding process to give appropriate recommendations. The features of such a program are disclosed, including its practical use in production.

This paper offers an experimental study of the microcutting mechanisms in marble grinding to aid the optimization of the marble grinding process. The necessity for investigating these mechanisms is dictated by the increased use of marble in many applications and the fact that grinding and polishing processes are the dominant technologies used to meet surface finish requirements in this natural material. The experiments are aimed at the determination of the normal component of the cutting force and of the grain traces in microcutting with a single diamond grain. The investigations carried out make provisions for establishing critical grain penetration and cutting depths and allow the prediction of the normal cutting force component as a function of grain penetration speed and depth.

The aim. Determination of the need to raise awareness of the population about multivitamins and the criteria for their rational choice. Materials and research methods. To achieve the goal of the study, it was necessary to develop a questionnaire for visitors to pharmacies and carry out an anonymous survey of them. All adult visitors of the pharmacy were attracted to the survey. The developed questionnaire consisted of 3 parts and contained 32 questions processed in the course of our own research. Research results. Among the pharmacy visitors we surveyed, the majority were between the ages of 35–55, approximately equally divided were men and women who mainly lived in the Kiev region (87 %), were not students and did not have educational levels of bachelor or master, and had no relation in health care education. Summarizing the information obtained in the course of processing questionnaires with the answers of visitors to pharmacies, it can be noted that in the surveyed group of respondents there is a certain interest and indifference to the discussed aspects, but quite often there is a lack of knowledge in this regard. Conclusions. In the course of analyzing the results of the questionnaire survey, the level of awareness of the population regarding general information about the pharmacology of multivitamin drugs and the criteria for their correct choice was determined. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that on many issues the respondents showed an insufficient level of knowledge, which justifies the need for additional information about multivitamins, and indicates that better it should be done with participation of a specialist with a pharmaceutical education or physician. Mostly the population lacks knowledge on the issues listed in the second part of the questionnaire, namely, on general information about the biological and pharmacological properties of vitamins. It was found that the information obtained from the Internet or other media, including advertising, has a significant impact on the awareness and decision of the respondents

Abstract Using the available analytical methods, including the determination of chemical composition using wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescent spectroscopy technique and phase composition determined using X-ray diffraction, microstructural observations in a highresolution scanning microscope equipped with an X-ray microanalysis system as well as determination of characteristic softening and sintering temperatures using high-temperature microscope, the properties of particular chromite sands were defined. For the study has been typed reference sand with chemical properties, physical and thermal, treated as standard, and the sands of the regeneration process and the grinding process. Using these kinds of sand in foundries resulted in the occurrence of the phenomenon of the molding mass sintering. Impurities were identified and causes of sintering of a moulding sand based on chromite sand were characterized. Next, research methods enabling a quick evaluation of chromite sand suitability for use in the preparation of moulding sands were selected.

The determination of the optimal operational mode of drum mills can be assessed by different criteria. The most important of them can be formulated as follows: “To be specified and established the values of the mill operational parameters regarding to which it is possible to be provided the user’s expected performance at the required quality of the final product and the same to be achieved at minimal energy consumption”. For the fulfillment of this condition, there has to be determined the laws of productivity variation, the final product quality and the energy consumption in function of the adequately chosen representative control parameters of the mill. There are obtained mathematical models, describing the most important technological parameters of the machine and are made conclusions about the factors influencing on them.

Abstract The elevated concentration of 210Po attached to aerosol particles inside a non-ferrous metal refinery was studied. The aerosols were collected on Petrianov or glass-fiber filters and subsequently subjected to radiochemical procedure consisting of acid leaching and concentration by micro co-precipitation with manganese oxide. For the activity determination alpha spectrometry and liquid scintillation counting (LSC) were applied. The obtained results showed that usually observed polonium concentration inside the plant was lower than 78 mBq m−3, however short spikes up to 7430 ± 710 mBq m−3 (related to the specific thermal process) were also observed.

Selected indicators of the quality of processed milk are reviewed in three sections: indices of heat treatment, detection of adulterations and assessment of shelf life. The characterization of the thermal process to which milk was submitted can be achieved by measuring either the formation of new compounds (lactulose, furosine) or the degradation of thermolabile constituents (enzymes, whey proteins). The presence of certain compounds may indicate fraudulent additions committed for eco nomic reasons. Finally, residual or reactivated heat stable enzymes may cause serious storage defects in UHT milk and, therefore, the proteolytic and lipolytic activities and the degree of protein and lipid degradation are useful predictors of the shelf life. Different analytical methods for the determination of the selected quality indicators are also summarized.

Coverage toolpath planning is very critical to deposition quality in layered manufacturing especially for metal deposition processes. The correct choice of toolpath patterns will make it possible to build a fully dense and functional metal part. The major consideration when selecting a toolpath pattern is the complete coverage of the to-be-deposited geometry which means no voids should happen. This paper presents the research on the toolpath coverage efficiency and the strategies to predict the possibility of the occurrence of deposition voids so that the appropriate toolpath pattern can be applied to avoid deposition voids. The contour-parallel offsetting pattern and the adaptive zigzag toolpath pattern will be applied as the alternate options and the final adaptive deposition coverage toolpath will be the combination of these two basic patterns depending on the prediction results of the occurrence of the deposition voids. The experiment has demonstrated that the adaptive toolpath pattern can greatly improve the reliability of the coverage path planning in deposition processes.

In precision abrasive machining, it is important to control process variables such as the material removal rate, normal force and power input, as these factors influence surface finish, dimensional precision, and material damage. In this research, a linear grinding process model, with enhancements over past models, is developed relating normal force to material removal rates. Two experimental procedures for the determination of the grinding model’s parameters are presented. Simulations are performed to validate the grinding model. The determined model is found to be a valid representation of the grinding process that should prove useful in adaptive control with real-time parameter estimation.

The article is devoted to calculations of load on rollers of a curvilinear continuous casting machine during bending of the ingot in the levelling section. The calculation takes into account the elastic and plastic characteristics of metal and the flexibility of the roller apparatus. Determination of load on rollers together with meeting other requirements such as reducing the cooling water consumption, minimizing the energy consumption enables optimizing the technology of slab cooling in the secondary cooling zone (SCZ) and obtaining metal of the required quality.
