The objective of this research is to analyze slang words in Top Five movie. Learning slang is important for people who want to fully understand English either it is formal or informal. The movie is analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through library and internet research then watch the movie several times. The first analysis of the research is about slang words that used in the movie. The second analysis is about forms of slang that found in the movie. Then the third analysis is about functions of slang words used in the movie. The result of this research indicated that: (1) There are ten slang words that are going to discuss in this research, (2) There are eleven forms of slang that found in the movie; compounding, affixation, phraseology, clipping, initialism, verbification, nominalization, other process, blending,  (3) There are nine functions of slang that used in the movie; identification, interaction, secrecy, emotions, humor, toughness, informality, conciseness, and forcefulness

The research aims to describe the functions of humor used in an American comedy movie The Boss. The subject of the research was American comedy movie The Boss. Descriptive qualitative method was used to conduct the research. Data collection was done through library research and documentation. Data analysis was done through identification, coding, classification and description. The researcher found several findings. Supported by Meyers theory of joke, there are 6 functions of jokes found in the movie such as to insult someone, to express anger, to tease someone, to relieve tension, to get attention, and to amuse others. The dominant function was differentiation particularly to insult and to express anger 21 times, the second was clarification particularly to relieve tension humorous lines and amuse others 15 times, the third was enforcement particularly to tease 18 times, and the last was identification particularly to relieve tension and to get attention 27 times. These functions were also analyzed and discriminated by different setting and participant based on formality and participants distance. According to the analysis, most jokes occurred in informal situation with intimate relationship among the participants and functioned to tease someone and to relieve tension. This finding also proves that American humor is expressed with more slapstick and vulgarity as the characteristic of American humor used in daily communication. “Wa Ndiundiu” adalah dongeng yang dibangun melalui pergumulan karakter tokohnya. Setiap tokoh menampilkan watak sesuai kondisi kejiwaannya. Psikologi sastra adalah kajian yang memandang sastra sebagai aktivitas kejiwaan pelakunya. Permasalahan penelitian adalah bagaimanakah struktur kepribadian, kecemasan, dan klasifikasi emosi empat tokoh “Wa Ndiundiu”? Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan empat karakter tokoh “Wa Ndiundiu” menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penulis menganalisis data dengan pendekatan tekstual, mengkaji aspek psikologisnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Ayah adalah akumulasi karakter yang diliputi kecemasan, tanatos, dominasi id, kemarahan, dan kebencian. Wa Turungkoleo memiliki cinta, kesedihan, dan eros. Kecemasan terkendali oleh ego dan superego-nya. La Mbatambata dikuasai alam bawah sadar dan fase id, muasal dorongan primitif yang belum dipengaruhi kebudayaan. Tokoh Wa Ndiundiu menghimpun beragam kerumitan kejiwaan. Antara id, ego, dan superego saling bersitegang dalam jiwanya. Tiga kecemasan, eros, dan tanatos hadir sekaligus dalam dirinya. Beragam klasifikasi emosi tersebut memengaruhi tindakannya.Abstract:Wa Ndiundiu is a kind of folktale built through the struggle of its characters. Every character shows  some characterizations based on their psychological condition. Literary psy- chology is used to describe psychological fact of their characters. The problems of the study are to find how the structure of personality, the anxiety, the emotional classification of Wa Ndiundiu’s four characters are.  The study is intended to describe the personality of four characters in “Wa Ndiundiu” by using Sigmund Freud Psychoanalysis. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The writer analyzes the data by applying textual approach. The results of the analysis show that the first character “Ayah” is a character with anxiety, tanatos, id, madness, and hatred. The sec- ond character “Wa Turungkoleo” is a character that has love, sadness, and eros. Her anxiety can be controlled by her ego and super ego. The third character, La Mbatambata is still driven by his subconscious mind and id phase as a place of primitive stimulus which is influenced by the culture. The fourth character, Wa Ndiundiu collects the entire psychological situation in her characteriza- tion. Three types of anxiety, eros, and tanatos exist in her characterization. Many types of emo- tional feeling influence her action.

The title of this research is analyzing the Deixis of Song Lyrics in Adele entitled “All I Ask”. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method in this research. This research are aimed to find out the types of deixis (Personal, Spatial, and Temporal) and the most dominant deixis which found in the lyrics of Adele's song. Based on the results and discussion, the researchers concluded that all deixis which proposed by Yule are found in Adele’s song lyrics. Personal deixis is mostly found in 38 occurrences dominate in this song. The words are “I, me, we, our, ours, us, and my” as the first person deixis, “you, and your” as the second person deixis, and “they and it” as the third person deixis. In the second position is spatial deixis, this, and in your eyes which found in 5 occurrences. The third position is temporal deixis, coming next, tomorrow, and last night which found in 3 occurrences. Keywords:  Deixis, Song, Lyric

This research analyzes English Idioms which are equivalent in Indonesian Idioms especially idioms inrelation to human body. This research is conducted due to limited research on contrastive analysis in bothlanguages in the field of semantics. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Thedata in this research are idioms in English which have an equivalent in Indonesian idioms and vice versataken from dictionary of idioms and websites discussing idioms in both languages. Data are analyzed underthe framework of idiom classification by Fernando (1996) and types of contrastive analysis by Lado (1957).Based on the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that mostly the equivalence of English andIndonesian idioms are in the form of pure idioms. In the level of contrastive analysis, the idioms arecategorized into three. The first is idioms in Indonesian and English which have similar meanings andsimilar forms of expressions. The second is idioms in Indonesian and English which have different meaningsbut similar forms of expressions. The third is idioms in Indonesian and English which have similarmeanings but different forms of expressions. The causes of similarities between the two idioms betweenEnglish and Indonesian is cultural factors between English and Indonesian in terms of percieving human body.Keywords: contrastive analysis, English Idiom, Indonesian Idiom, human body.

<p><em>The purpose of the research are kind of code-switching and code-mixing, the factor of the result from the code-switching and code-mixing; and the role of the code-switching and code-mixing in the Indonesian lerning of the seventh F class SMP N 2 Brangsong, Kendal regency. </em><em>The research used descriptive qualitative method with </em><em>case study </em><em>approach.The research used purposive sampiling and snow ball sampling, then the technique of the collecting data by record, report, and interview. Validity test is triangulation theory.The result of the research are: the first, find out 12 code-switching in the javanese is four times and from Arab is 8 times; the second, find out the code-mixing consist of 44 times divided to be Indonesian dialeg from Jakarta is 12 times and english is 6 times; the third, factor of the result from the code-switching and code mixing from the research devided to be 5 factors (a) personal and speaker, (b) the partner of the speech, (c) the place, (d) topic, and (e) function and purpose</em><em>.</em></p>

The reseach objectives are to know what symbols are performed in Lariangi dance and what meaning are conveyed in the symbols performed in Lariangi dance. This study used descriptive qualitative method to take information. The writer obsereved the experiences’s house in Liya village and took some informations from them and interviewed and documentated by using recorded and camera. This research also took the datum from some books, articles, internet which associat with the symbols in Lariangi dance in Wakatobi Southeast Sulawesi. The research resulted the part of symbols in Lariangi dance start from dress, accessories, movement of the dance and the songs of Lariangi dance. The result of this study were the symbols performed and the meaning are conveyed in Laariangi dance. The symbols performed in Lariangi dance and their meanings are found in four part. First the symbols found in dress there are six namely Kombo Monihi, Kombo Meha, Punto/Wuray Nibelo Biru, Laka/Wuray Meha, Kambero, and Lenso/Saputangan symbolyzes sweat rag of King Buton. The second, there are eight symbols and their meaning found in accessories, namely Panto and Pintoru, Hepupu/Konde, Kamba Konde, Toboy Kamba, Hebindu/Sangi-Sangi, Kalo, Naga,  Sekori Keponto Posusu symbolyzes degrees nobility. The third, there are four symbols found in movement of Lariangi dance namely, Hematu kepooli le..le, Pajogi/Nyibing/Ngifi,  Nabu/Tau,  and Lariangi symbolyzes Lighting. The last is symbols found in song of Lariangi dance there are nine songs namely Mangu-Mangu, Ole-Ole,  Doumaraia, Denda Aule, Sailila, Waindi-Indi, Rongande, Jojongana, and Salatu symbolyzes as thankful to Allah SWT.

The purpose of this study is to reveal sacrifice in Meyer’s Breaking  down. In conducting the study, the writer delimited this study only in reveling sacrifice in Meyer’s Breaking down. Bella focuses on the main character.  The research employs a descriptive qualitative method. It means that all of the data is in the form of words and sentences rather than numbers, and it focuses on the process that produces the results. After analyze the novel the writer may conclude that the kinds of Bella’s sacrifice can be formulated into three categories they are: Willing to stop her study and get married in the very young age, Willing to pregnant event it will endanger her life and the third willing to give up her life for her baby. These three types of sacrifice clearly describe in the novel. Finally, the suggestions are 1) Sacrifice is the very important things in human life, 2) Every relationship needs sacrifice to the sake of others life, 3) Sacrifice is a good moral act that important to become a lesson for everyone.

This research is based on the still problematic confusion of basic reading lecturers to determine the weakness of students in understanding basic reading so that there are still a number of students who are completely weak in the analysis of discourse content and have not been detected clearly. Diagnostic assessment to find out the weaknesses of students in understanding basic reading in the third semester students of of Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Blitar is applied in this study. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method. data collection technique in this study  is using interview technique. In this study, the source of the data is the third semester Basic Reading Lecturer at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Blitar. The results show that the strong desire of the third semester basic reading lecturers at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Blitar to use Diagnostic assessment resulted from several factors, namely: a) easy to understand student's ability in reading analysis, and b) easy factor to know the weaknesses of students in understanding reading. From the description above it can be concluded that Diagnostic assessment is an appropriate facility for lecturers to find out the weaknesses of students who are the top priority in learning outcomes.
