This study x-ray business communication skills acquisition required by entrepreneurs for sustainable development in Oyo State, Nigeria. Four (4) research questions guided the study. A survey design was adopted. The population was 2600 entrepreneurs registered with Nigerian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIIMA) in Oyo State while 10% totalling 260 respondents were randomly selected using simple random sampling techniques formed the sample size for this study. A-35 item structured questionnaire validated by 4 experts was used for data collection. The pilot study conducted yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.78 which was high enough for the instrument to be considered reliable. Mean and the standard deviation was used to analyze the findings. The findings revealed among others that listening and speaking communication skills are highly required by entrepreneurs for sustainable development. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that in house training should be conducted for entrepreneurs to address communication skill gap for sustainable development.

Nigeria is facing profound social, economic and environmental impact of population growth, development and environmental constraints. It is apparent that government alone has limited capacity to deal with all these problems. NGOs being one of the most effective partners have been playing supportive roles with the government, in some cases, they are considered more effective to get attached with the grass root level developmental initiatives. However, despite the role NGOs played, their presence and impact is not fully evaluated, recognized and appreciated by many governments and community members. It is for this reason this article attempts to examine whether projects executed by NGOs have any impact on sustainable development in Katsina Metropolis, given special emphasis on projects that dealt with environmental protection, poverty alleviation and health care services. The study further look at whether efficiency of NGOs officials has any impact on success of sustainable development projects execution.  A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 150 NGOs beneficiaries in five (5) selected political wards of twelve (12) in Katsina metropolis. Interviews was used to collect relevant data using a structured questionnaire from NGOs officials which include; development officers and facilitators in five (5) selected NGO offices operating in Katsina Metropolis namely; Save the Children, Service to Humanity Foundation, Murna Foundation, Katsina Friends of Environment and Makudawa Skills Acquisition. Frequency and chi-square analysis was used to present the results. The findings revealed that NGOs are complementing government efforts towards achieving sustainable development through their projects, and efficiency of NGOs officials has significant impact on success of sustainable development projects executed in the area. The findings of the study can benefit government and NGOs in creating more areas of collaboration in order to achieve sustainable development.

Aims: The aim of the study was to ascertain the impact of the adoption of improved cassava technology on the output of farmers in Benue state, Nigeria. Study Design: The study used Survey design. Place and Duration of Study: The study was carried out in Benue State, between November 2018 and May 2019. Methodology: Cluster and simple random sampling techniques were used to select 366 respondents for the study. Primary data were collected using Semi-structured questionnaire. Objective 1 was achieved using descriptive statistics such as percentages, frequencies and means while Objective 2 was achieved using multiple regression model. Results: The findings showed that the adoption of improved cassava technologies influenced the farmers in a number of ways which included increased farmers income (56%:  2.10), acquired new skills (75%:); increased output (76%: ); expanded production (67%: ); ensured more food at home (food security) ( 85%: ); and increased well being of adopters (80%: ). The result also revealed that improved cassava technologies adoption have significant impact on farmers output in Benue State was accepted. This was indicated by F-stat value of 33.42 and F-probe value of 0.000 of less than 0.05, indicating that the estimated regression model adopted in this study was statistically significant at 1%. The R2 value of 0.75 implied that 75% of dependent variable (farmers output) was explained by the independent variables (TSM0505, TSM0581, TSM0572, TMS011368, TMS961632, TMS920326 TME 419, NR8082). Conclusion: Thus it was concluded that improved cassava technologies adoption have significant impact on farmers output in Benue State The study thus recommend that Extension agencies should ensure that improved cassava technologies are accessible by farmers and that farmers acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in using such technologies. This will ensure high adoption and high impact as well.

The study assessed the use of electronic databases by academic staff of Bowen University, Nigeria. Descriptive analysis including percentage and frequency count was used to analyze the data. From the total population of 500 academic staff, a sample of 75 was taken using the simple random sampling technique. Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection in this study. The questionnaire used was a closed ended or structured questionnaire divided into two sections. Section A captures the respondents’ bio-data while section B contained the structured items to achieve the research objectives. Five research questions were developed and answered by the study. The results show that majority of academic staff were aware of available e-databases, use it to improve teaching delivery and research output. Challenges encountered include inadequate time and an overwhelming workload. The study concludes by recommending a drastic reduction in workload, increasing bandwidth, hotspots and entrenching customer-friendly policies in the library.

Given that managing schools to attain expected goals is becoming challenging in the present competitive society, it becomes paramount that collaborations, especially with a highly innovative group of people are encouraged. In the light of this, the purpose of this study is to investigate the extent of School-Based Management Committees' (SBMCs) involvement in public secondary school administration in Abuja. A descriptive survey design was used for the study, and 3 research questions were answered in relation to the 3 research objectives of the study. The population of the study was 460 respondents, and a sample size of 250 respondents was drawn through proportionate random and convenience sampling techniques. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Arithmetic mean was employed in analyzing the research questions. The result revealed among others, that the school-based management committees play a passive role in planning in public secondary schools in Abuja. It was concluded that for schools to effectively meet the academic need of the Abuja community, their collaborations with the SBMCs have to be very active and productive. To this end, SBMCs need to become more committed to collaborating and helping the schools in terms of planning, staffing and monitoring.

This study was carried out to determine how availability and accessibility could bring about sustainable development in perceived academic performance of polytechnics’ students using Ibadan Polytechnic as a case study. Survey design was used with structured questionnaire and observation as instruments for data collection. The questionnaire was administered with the aid of a research assistant. From the findings, it was revealed that textbooks and dictionaries were readily available in the library while electronic books and journals were not accessible. The study also revealed lack of enough electronic resources, lack of enough computers to access Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) and power failure as some of the challenges to availability and accessibility of library resources. Some recommendations were made based on the findings.

The main aim of this study was to investigate the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays in secondary schools as a way of cultivating interest and positive attitude towards drama at an early age. The objectives of the study were: To ascertain whether teachers of Kiswahili play have ICT skills for teaching Kiswahili plays and to examine attitude of teachers of Kiswahili towards integration of ICT in teaching Kiswahili plays The study used social learning theory by Bandura and the functionalism theory by John Dewey. The study employed a descriptive survey design to answer the research questions. Stratified sampling was used to categorize schools in to boys, girls, mixed schools, day and boarding schools. Simple random sampling was applied to select 275 students from a total of 918 students. The study used focus group discussion, questionnaires for teachers and students to collect data and interviews to provide further information on the teacher’s attitude on the use of ICT in teaching Kiswahili play and observation. The study showed limited use of ICT in teaching and learning of Kiswahili play and it adds up into the pool of existing knowledge and is beneficial to teachers since it gives suggestion on the best combination to motivate and arouse interest of teaching and also to the teacher training institutions in preparing teachers to adequately use ICT in instruction in classroom level and also to the curriculum developers.

This study intends to examine defiant behaviours among schoolers at the three levels of education in Gombe metropolis, which has reached a critical point. To guide the study, the research takes a descriptive survey design. Three research questions focusing on the defiant behaviours among schoolers were formulated. Eight institutions were randomly selected and a total number of 146 respondents were also randomly sampled for the study. A structured questionnaire with 12-items was designed. Results revealed that these defiant behaviours has caused high rate of dropouts among schoolers and so affected their contribution in the task of the nation building. It is the position of the paper that idealism, which emphasizes self-awareness and self-knowledge, can be used to tackle the problem of defiant behaviours among schoolers.

This study examined the gender disparity towards students’ enrollment in technical education in Rivers State. A sample of 403 students (362 Male and 41 Female) was selected through simple random sampling technique from Rivers State University (RIVSU) and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUOE), Port Harcourt from the Department of Technical Education. Three research questions were posed to guide the study and two Null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significant. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data. A reliability coefficient of 0.83 was established through Cronbach Alpha using test-retest method. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation for research questions and hypotheses were tested using the independent sample t-test. The study revealed amongst others that poverty, preference of male child, cultural and religious beliefs were causes of female folks low enrollment into technical education programmes in Rivers State. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended amongst others that; allowances, scholarships, employment opportunities should be given to female students in order to enhance their enrolments into technical education programmmes in Rivers State.

The study investigated developing of entrepreneurial skills among pre-service teachers through teaching of mathematics education for sustainable development. Based on the purpose of the study, one research question and two hypotheses guided the study. Analytical survey research design was adopted in carrying out the study. The population consisted of all pre-service teachers in the department of primary education studies of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri in Imo State. A sample of 90pre-service teachers was used for the study using simple random sampling technique in selecting the sample size. The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire titled developing entrepreneurship skills through mathematics education (DESME). The validity of the instrument was done by two experts in mathematics education and two experts in entrepreneurial education. The internal consistency of the items was established to be 0.87 using Cronbach Alpha Statistics Method. The data generated were analyzed with the aid of SPSS Version 20.0 .Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research question while inferential statistics of Z-test, ANOVA were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance .The result of the study showed that knowledge of mathematics is very important in the development of entrepreneurial skills while gender and levels of years of pre-service teachers do not differ in the acquisition of the entrepreneurial skills.

Background: Over the last three decades the annual number of deaths among children less than 5 years of age has decreased by almost one third. However, this reduction has not been evenly distributed throughout the worldObjective: The aim of the present study was to identify the role perception of mothers and nurses in the care of hospitalized children.Method: Comparative survey design was adopted for the study. A simple random sampling technique for mothers and purposive sampling for the nurses were used in selecting the subjects. The sample comprised of 50 mothers and 50 nurses. The data was collected by using interview schedule for mothers and semi-structured questionnaire for the nurses. The data obtained was analyzed using the descriptive and inferential statistics.Result: The study results showed that, 84% of mothers strongly agreed and 56% of nurses strongly agreed, with the role of mothers in the care of hospitalized children. Regarding comparison of the role of mothers as perceived by mothers and nurses, were found positively significant. As regards to relationship between the perceptions of mothers on her role with the selected background factors, revealed that there was no significant relationship.Conclusion: Mother’s role in the care of hospitalized children is vital, as all expectations of satisfaction, trust and security of the child are vested in her. Mothers being a primary care provider of child has limited role in hospital but still can contribute in recovery of children.Health Renaissance 2015;13(2): 14-21
