The article is aimed at studying the features of energy saving at a manufacturing enterprise and establishing a cause-and-effect relationship between energy saving and product competitiveness. Due to analyzing and generalizing the research results of domestic and foreign scientists the views of researchers on the process of energy saving at a manufacturing enterprise are systematized; the growing role of energy saving in ensuring energy efficiency and, consequently, product competitiveness is established. The research results show that energy saving at an enterprise is one of its most important assets, the impact of which on the level of product competitiveness is becoming increasingly important in the face of the exacerbating energy and environmental crises. Energy saving, basically focusing on the intensification of production processes and use of energy and energy resources, on the one hand, reduces the level of specific energy consumption and, consequently, the price of the released product while maintaining or increasing its quality; on the other hand, it reduces the carbon loading on the environment, thus contributes to the growth of the company's image among its consumers and partners. Both components are the most important factors in ensuring product competitiveness. The development and implementation of energy saving measures at industrial enterprises, with regard to the industry-specific character of economic entities, market conditions, and the requirements of environmental standards can serve as prospects for further research

The article presents a detailed review of the research results in the field of pancreatology published in 2018. Certain parts of the review are devoted to the pathogenesis, diagnostics, course of pancreatitis, its treatment, as well as autoimmune, hereditary pancreatitis, pancreatic pathology in children, as well as treatment. In studying the pathogenesis of pancreatitis, attention is paid to genetic markers of pancreatitis along with a role of bacterial overgrowth syndrome in the small intestine, both in terms of worsening of the course of pancreatitis and the lack of effectiveness of enzyme replacement therapy. The study of the role of alcohol abuse and smoking in the pathogenesis of pancreatic pathology is still in progress. Diagnostics is going on. Endosonography remains the most informative method. A number of studies have been devoted to the studying of exocrine and endocrine pancreatic insufficiency both upon pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors, and in functional dyspepsia and HIV infection. Autoimmune pancreatitis is increasingly being diagnosed, a number of studies are devoted to its diagnostics and treatment. Pancreatic diseases in children develop mainly on the background of genetic predisposition, while functional pancreatic insufficiency occurs in adult patients. The study of the peculiarities of the effect of enzyme replacement therapy continues. The immediate and remote results of the surgical treatment of pancreatic pathology are assessed.

Object of research: the article presents the results of studying the economic rent from workforce and social conditions (significant components of the important rent-forming resource of nowadays global economy – social capital) in Ukraine. Solved problem: determining the features of economic rent, outlining the conditions and prospects for increasing the rental income of the Ukrainian economy from the capitalization of workforce’ intellectual and creative qualities, as well as socium rent-generating conjunctures. Main scientific results: the role of the economic rent in the system of rental relations of the modern global economy and its national components is examined; the features of the formation and distribution of economic rent’ various types in the process of using the workforce’ intellectual and creative potential, as well as other components of the nowadays most significant type of rent-forming resources – social capital – are studied. The specificity of human component and social capital in general as a rent-generating resource is manifested in the generation of additional prerequisites (resource, organizational and economic) and incentives to increase volumes and expand potential areas for extracting rent income in the process of its use, since the using of the employee’ knowledge and abilities leads to a consistent accumulation of professional experience, and consequently – to a permanent increase in the aggregate of these rent-generating properties and in activities for improving the environment of their implementation in Ukraine. Scope of practical use of research results: the research results can be used in developing strategies and programs of Ukrainian economy’ innovative diversification in the process of its further competitive integration into the global economic space, that, among other things, requires the creation of conditions for improving the rent-generating properties of workforce and social environment, as well as increasing the level of its capitalization.

Prior research suggests interorganizational collaboration faces temporal challenges but also opportunities yet is scarce on the role of time enabling – more often deterring - collaboration for collective benefit. Our contribution is highlighting how a large industry-academic research network developed temporally complex collaboration through varying temporal rules and relationships. The three network-developed collaborative repertoires, with their particular temporal rules and relationships, complemented the externally imposed calendar repertoire: (1) sprint repertoire, following a familiar agile method for joint research, (2) narrative time repertoire, enabling sharing research results across various events at the program level, and (3) “right” time repertoire that turned research results into action in emerging business ecosystems. With these collaborative repertoires, both the temporal diversities of home organizations and the asynchronies of the network activities were resolved for collective benefit. We contribute to the intersection of the literatures on interorganizational networks and temporality as befitting collaboration.

The article is a presentation of a part of the results of research conducted during work on the dissertation. In the introduction, theoretical references to understanding volunteering from various perspectives were indicated. It also emphasizes the understanding of volunteering as an opportunity to develop professional competences of a volunteer. Consequently, the next part of the article is an argument on the relationship between volunteering and professional competences. The author indicates specific skills, knowledge and attitudes that, according to the literature, can be acquired during volunteering. Subsequently employers’ expectations towards the characteristics of future employees, as well as their attitude to volunteering are described. This part is based on research conducted, among others, by the Warsaw School of Economics. Then, the author presents the results of her own research conducted among employers of social sciences students and their perception of volunteering and the opportunities it creates for the development of competences. The analysis of the research results allows us to believe that volunteers, during their activity, gain mainly practical and industry knowledge. Among the skills indicated were group cooperation, interpersonal skills and effective communication. The attitudes that volunteers acquire thanks to their actions are: resourcefulness, responsibility, sensitivity and empathy. At the end, the results of the author’s research on competences acquired by volunteers were compared with the competences desired by employers and the existing competency gap. The analysis of all answers confirms that communication skills, openness, teamwork and industry knowledge are competences that are desirable in an ideal graduate, who most often has a competency gap in this area. At the same time, these are competences that can be acquired through volunteering. The research results may suggest that people entering the labour market, but also employers, are interested in volunteering as a way to increase their chances on the labour market.

This chapter aims to link the known research results on the teaching and learning of linear algebra to research on teaching practices. The same person, as a teacher and as a researcher, plans and implements a teaching sequence, constructs multimodal narratives (MNs) for some classes, and reflects on his own practice, based on the emerging categories from content analysis of the MNs. Regarding the methodology and focusing on the role of MNs in this research, it is worth highlighting the value attributed to MNs because they function as an instrument that embodies the practices of the teacher and aid him in reflecting on his own practice.

This paper addresses the issue of individual entrepreneurship orientation (IEO) and entrepreneurship education (EE), which are both important for modern economic development. Intergenerational differences in these areas were discussed, especially characteristics of Generations Y and Z. The results of research conducted among 757 Polish students showing their IEO are presented. 80% of respondents displayed high levels of proactivity (primarily directed at meeting their own needs), whilst only 56% exhibited innovativeness and only 47% risk-taking. On the basis of the research results, the authors formulated recommendations for entrepreneurship education, aimed at strengthening IEO among representatives of Generations Y and Z.
