The objective of this study is to perform an enzymatic treatment on wool fibers in the presence of a mild detergent containing surfactants obtained from renewable raw materials, in order to obtain a reduction in the felting of wool fibers. This treatment is designed to replace the classic wool fiber process using chlorine compounds, aggressive to people and the environment. FTIR spectroscopy has demonstrated the effect of enzymes by breaking down bonds from the functional groups characteristic of the keratin protein of wool. Determination of relaxation shrinkage and felting shrinkage allowed the selection of the samples that led to a minimal felting phenomenon.

Halal product assurance is a global concern, especially in some Southeast Asian countries. The Government of Indonesia through law No. 33 of 2014 requires food and beverage products circulating in Indonesia to have halal certificates. Responding to the central government program, the Government of Bangka Belitung has issued a Regional Regulation on the Implementation of Safe and Halal Food Guarantees. The purpose of the Community Partnership Program (CPP) is to realize Balunijuk Village as Halal Village. The determination of these objectives is the result of an agreement between the village officials and food and beverage business people in Balunijuk Village. The method of implementation in this activity is in the form of direct guidance to six fostered partners to obtain a Sanitation Hygiene (HS) certificate, and socialization on halal lifestyle targeting the community, village officials and six fostered businesses. Six fostered businesses in the village of Balunijuk have received Sanitation Hygiene (HS) Eligible Certificates. The issuance of HS certificates in the foster stalls shows the seriousness of partners in maintaining the cleanliness of the production process, raw materials and sanitation of production sites. HS Certificate as a requirement for business actors to apply for a Halal Certificate LPPOM MUI in Bangka Belitung. As many as 90% of participants understood about halal lifestyle material, besides that participants felt the need to apply halal lifestyle, especially in the selection of food and drinks to be consumed because it had an impact on physical and spiritual health. The results of this activity are the initiators to realize Balunijuk Village as Halal Village.

The paper describes the production and the mechanical characteristics of composites made completely of renewable raw materials. Several wastes or by-products from agro-industrial production namely hemp hurd, alfalfa, and grape stem were analyzed with respect to their thermal stability, morphological, and chemical composition in an attempt to validate their use in composites. Such natural particle fillers were used in the range of 10–50 wt% in combination with poly(lactic acid) by melt blending to obtain fully bio-based composites. These fillers were responsible for a noteworthy increase in the storage modulus. Furthermore, two micromechanical models (Voigt and Halpin–Tsai) were used to mathematically fitted the experimental data, and then the unknown moduli were extrapolated and compared with other natural fillers. Finally, the flexural strength of the bio-composites and the adhesion evaluation by exploiting Pukanszky’s model were carried out. As a result, the hemp hurd in the form of chips was the best investigated filler, which showed the highest calculated modulus of 10.5 GPa (Voigt) and the best filler–matrix interaction with “B” (Pukanszky’s coefficient) of 2.10. This information can be useful when comparison and selection of a suitable filler among the natural fillers are required.

Wool fibers are a natural, renewable, sustainable, low impact on the environment, with huge potential for humanity. Given the exponential growth of the Earth’s population, raw materials are getting less and less, a business based on the processing of renewable raw materials, especially wool fibers, has a high chance of survival and development. Romania, with an overwhelming agrarian economy, has a population of nearly 10 million sheep and a production of over 16,000 tons of medium and coarse wool. Given the need to set minimum energy performance requirements for new buildings and for the major renovation of existing ones at European Union level, the development of new materials and technologies is necessary, so that the opportunity to capitalize on wool for buildings be a workable item on long term. This paper presents the experimental results of the characteristics of 4 non-conventional textile structures (UTS) made of 100% wool fibers, designed and developed at S.C. Cora Trading & Service SRL, on their existing adapted technology. The fibrous blend used, consisting of both tanning wool and coarse shared wool allow development of innovative structures, with potential of use for their thermal insulation capacity and great potential of sustainable development of the manufacturer.

Designing medical devices requires a wide range of verification steps for estimation of the performance and safety. Designing the research program needs a rational selection of appropriate testing methods (in preclinical and clinical studies) for determination of the risk of potential incompatibilities resulting in adverse events. The significance of the appropriate selection of the testing method is increased in advanced medical devices. The presented research considers the verification of the functional properties of recently developed topical haemostatic agents with the use of the chitosan/alginate fibrids, based on the previously elaborated risk analysis made according to the guidelines of the PN-EN-ISO 14971:2012 and PN-EN ISO 22442-1:2008 standards. The aim of this research was to verify the stability of the performance of the newly developed haemostatic agents during storage. The defined aim of the study arose from the thesis that the appropriate selection of raw materials and a new manner of reprocessing them enabled keeping the usability of the final product for at least two years.

Companies must choose suppliers properly, because the selection of the right supplier can reduce raw material costs and increase the competitiveness of the company, while improper supplier selection can cause financial and operating problems. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal supplier and order quantity of raw materials. As for the object of the research is a multipurpose technology machinery company. Data collection methods used in this study were observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Supplier data is processed using the AHP method to determine the right supplier, while the linear programming method is used to determine the order quantity of the raw material. Based on the calculation, the DS supplier gets a weight of 0.65 and the LG supplier gets a weight of 0.35. The optimal order quantity from each supplier is 7.5 tons for DS and 7.5 tons suppliers for LG suppliers. From the results of the optimization, the cost reduction figure is Rp. 3,750,000 or 3% of the total cost of purchase.

This is a poster presentation. Raw materials have a decisive influence on the quality of a product. Therefore it is important to check raw materials not only for quality and composition but also for identity. It is also essential to check material during the production process to prevent defective products and to save costs resulting from any out of specification batch. Such in-process measurements are also used for process control. The power of NIR spectroscopy includes both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results can be obtained within a few seconds. Since no chemicals or time consuming sample preparation is necessary NIR spectroscopy is an ideal analytical method for at-line and in-line measurements. NIR spectroscopy is well established to measure moisture, protein, and fat – the three major constituents in food processing. For these three and a few other constituents a selection of 19 specific wavelengh filters can give all necessary information. But NIR spectroscopy is not only an appropriate tool to analyze these “standard parameters” it can also be very helpful when determining less conventional or minor parameters. Therefore often a higher flexibility regarding the wavelength selection is required which makes the collection of a full spectrum necessary. Some of these less common applications are the determination of caffeine in coffee, theobromine in chocolate or trans fatty acids in margarine. Other product specific parameters which have a strong influence on processing behaviour like the tenderness of peas or the degree of substitution in modified starch can also be measured by NIR.
