Education is experiencing a major paradigm shift over the last 100 years, shifting from fact memorizing to learning practical application of this knowledge of facts, which means that in modern education the skills are at the forefront. The purpose of education is to prepare students for practical life or to promote their competence. A competent person is not only someone who knows perfectly how to use his knowledge, but who can take responsibility for his actions, can be creative, critical to thinking and analysing. Paradoxically, it is a relatively new paradigm in education – to move from memorizing information to critical evaluation, analysis and building new knowledge. Moreover, increasingly important form of cognition are becoming mutual cooperation and communication, in order to be able to implement it, increasingly important are becoming the transversal areas of study fields found in practical knowledge activities, respectively, they affect the content, format, methods used and other aspects of pedagogy (Iekalšanas laikmeta beigas 2015). National Center for Education highlights the importance of human skills, the ability to focus on and take independent decisions, attitude and a system of values based on personal characteristics, and is a motivating factor for action. In addition to basic skills in key areas of human activity, the application of skills and knowledge under different conditions, or interdisciplinary skills, is important in order to be able to focus. The implementation of innovative approaches depends on the professionalism of educators, determined by the identity of the teacher, which in turn includes the attitudes of the teacher to his work, to students, their parents and colleagues, to the development of education and society in general. Historical circumstances, politico-social orientation, the social political context, the education system adopted in the country sets out certain requirements for the professionalism and competence of the teacher (Lamote, Engels 2010). It is therefore legitimate that, when a teaching approach is changed, different teaching methods and didactic materials are applied, as well as new techniques for the use of materials already known. The calendar, as a time-gauge, has long been used as a method for working with the entire group in pre-school. However, the approach proposed in the article is fundamentally different from that generally accepted, since each child in the preschool group has his own personal calendar made by his parents. This material provides an excellent opportunity for each child to work independently with small details, to exercise fingers, to think, to make mistakes, to compare, to make decisions, to correct mistakes, to perceive signs aggregated, which is clearly an incentive for the development of speech and reading skills. In pre-school working with the “My Calendar” methodical material, the teacher is given the opportunity to use a practice-tested and implemented method of promoting children’s skills in all areas of learning, along with the development of transversal skills defined in the learning content. Therefore, the idea of integrating the specific interactive methodological material “My Calendar” into the pre-primary environment is proposed, where, by highlighting trends in new learning content, the development of transversal skills for pre-school children is targeted, and on the basis of methods tested in practice, the work of the teachers who will implement it is facilitated. This method highlights the freedom of each teacher to modify and adapt the methodological material to their intention, environment, capabilities, and to complement it creatively and improve it by maintaining the succession of tasks in line with child development.

Abstract Objective: University graduates in Bangladesh are presently confronted with high job competition. Because of less job availability, engineering graduates are facing more challenges in getting job opportunities than business graduates. Moreover, engineering graduates are more proficient in technical skills than with their human skills. The most important barrier for engineering graduates’ employability at their initial stage of career is that they have less focus on acquisition of their soft skills. Therefore, this study is concentrating to analyse the current situation of the engineering graduates’ soft skills deficiency and to investigate the impact of having soft skills on employability. Methodology:The nature of the study is qualitative and data has been gathered through in-depth interview and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Respondents of in-depth interview are experienced engineers and HR experts who are working in engineering based organizations especially at the power solution service providing companies in Bangladesh. FGD among final year undergraduate engineering students has also been conducted to validate the interview data. Thematic analysis is used to analyse the qualitative data. Findings:The impact of having soft skills in getting employment of new graduates at the entry level is identified in this paper. Value Added: Higher education can assist in developing employability through increasing employment prospect and also achieving individual learning goals. However, fresh engineering graduates have social skills gap and lack of practical knowledge which can be reduced through acquiring soft skills. Different techniques such as self-training, institutional training, joining language sessions, attending presentation skills development classes and social programs can assist graduates in the acquisition of soft skills. Recommendations: As the most important reason of engineers’ unemployment is the lacking of collaboration between industry and academic institutions, this study focuses to draw the attention of engineering students, educational institutes and policy makers to highlight the importance of developing soft skills for employability and career growth.

The paper deals with the relationship between academic, applied and practical knowledge in the field of applied psychology, which has the potential to contribute to economic and social development. The aim of the analysis is to make an initial insight into the dominant topics and social relevance of research activities in the field of work psychology in Serbia in the period of significant social changes (1995-2019). The material for the analysis consisted of abstracts of papers in the field of work psychology, which were presented at two leading national conferences - Empirical Research in Psychology and the Meeting of Psychologists of Serbia (N = 657). The thematic analytical procedure was used for the construction of the code system used for defining the criteria for collecting relevant data. Exploratory sequential design and comparative longitudinal analysis were used for data processing. The general conclusion based on qualitative data analysis suggests the existence of social relevance of research activities in the field of work psychology in this period. The results of the analysis were also considered from the perspective of some recent models of strategic planning and social development. The obtained results indicate the emergence of new topics and areas, as well as the existence of a link between significant social changes and research activities in the field of work psychology in this period. Some elements of the new paradigm of the positive human resource development practice are highlighted. The paper concludes with discussing the broader theoretical-methodological and practical implications of the obtained findings for work psychology.

Abstract Burkina Faso is a West African Sahelian country with climate-related risks because the disaster risk profile, and drought and floods are the main damaging natural disasters, aggravated by the phenomenon of climate change. An effective design and implementation of disaster reduction management strategies requires an understanding of risk factors and vulnerabilities, but also and an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of national disaster response systems. In this perspective, a literature review and an analysis of climate information were conducted in order to reveal the risks and vulnerabilities to droughts and floods in the country. This was accompanied by a critical evaluation of the performance of the national prevention and intervention system.Vulnerabilities to drought and floods are exacerbated by the combined effect of climate change and the low performance of the national disaster risk reduction management system. National institutions and frameworks exist for disaster prevention and management, but difficulties persist in implementation due to financial constraints and insufficient human skills. Current trends and estimates suggest that the drawbacks of these natural hazards may be more serious in the future if solutions are not taken to improve early warning forecasts, infrastructure and the implementation of adequate agricultural policies.

The article reviews various definitions of poverty which describe this phenomenon on the basis of not only monthly income and material deprivation but also considering the multidimensional quality of life of the poor population. The paper analyzes the evolution of the concept, different types and levels of poverty and discusses the chief differences between opposing theoretical views. The first part of the paper focuses on culturalist approaches to poverty and presents summarized findings on family patterns and personal characteristics of the poor documented in a wide range of anthropological and sociological studies of this group. As recently the concept of social exclusion is increasingly replacing the concepts of poverty and marginalization the paper goes on to present current definitions of the new paradigm, main indicators and properties of social exclusion, as well as the meaning of this concept from the perspective of strengthening social cohesion and programs aimed at social inclusion promoted by the European Union.

By reading, reviewing, analyzing and discussing the literature related to ‘multiculturalism’, this article aims to explore the learning content of ‘multiculturalism’ for children in Taiwan’s elementary schools. I analyze the focus of teaching from the perspectives of ethnicity, language, gender, religion and class. In terms of ethnicity, teachers should help children understand, respect and appreciate the cultures of various ethnic groups. In terms of language, teachers should teach children to respect the languages of ethnic groups. In terms of gender, teachers should cultivate children’s sense of gender equality and create a ‘gender-equal’ society to avoid gender discrimination and oppression. In terms of religion, teachers should teach children to respect, appreciate and be tolerant of religious beliefs. In terms of class, teachers must help children understand that members of various social classes should coexist peacefully to prevent class oppression. Additionally, teachers have a crucial role in teaching practice; teachers should increase their awareness of beliefs, values, educational ideals, practical knowledge and external environmental challenges; and teachers should be willing to use new approaches and changes to curricula. Active participation in curriculum formation and teaching practice is essential; otherwise, making the required substantial changes to the curriculum and teaching of ‘multiculturalism’ would be difficult. Based on the aforementioned discussion, children can be taught to recognize, respect and appreciate cultures and enhance their understanding of ‘multiculturalism’.

Abstract This study poses the question: "How long will the average new employee likely stay with his employer? This question has considerable relevance to the study of labour market activity, and to the obverse question: "How likely will a person, once employed, be unemployed again?" This paper explores the relevance of the tenure question on a number of fronts, and then develops a simple model for estimating the expected tenure of workers joining specific industries in Canada. Although the findings are based on somewhat dated statistics and lack a vector related to age, sex and other personal characteristics, they nonetheless confirm within reasonable degrees of confidence that the average new employee will remain with his employer a remarkably short time—less than two years in most industries and only a few months in some others. They suggest that employers are wise to defer costly training, pension and other non-wage expenditures until their new employees have built up some attachment to the firm. By the same token they affirm the usefulness of public income support programs to tide those who are laid off or quit through the transition to their next job, and for public retraining and mobility facilities to make the investments in human skills and allocation that employers will not.

The article is devoted to the socio-psychological analysis of the image of a political leader in the space of thinking of Ukrainian student youth. The problems of the implementation of the political choice of student youth in the process of socio-political changes are revealed. As politics began to be perceived as personalized, through the prism of personal characteristics of particular political figures, it is relevant to study the role of the image of a political leader, which is characterized by the transformation of personal and professional qualities. The paper presents a comparative analysis of the results of an empirical study of the image of a political leader in the space of thinking of student youth conducted at the Nizhyn Mykola Gogol State University and Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in 2011-2019. The article presents that formed image of the politician determines the level of political activity during elections. A comparative analysis of the results obtained concerning the priorities of student youth reveals the most important political quality of the political leader for student youth – his social orientation and concern for the people. The results of the comparative analysis indicate an increase in the political subjectivity of youth, but negative emotions (disappointment) impede the willingness for responsible participation in political life. Three groups of factors are identified that mediate the process of perception by the electorate of a political leader. Features of vertical and horizontal involvement of a citizen in political activity are revealed. The peculiarities of changing attitudes and the value-normative orientation of the political consciousness of modern students are demonstrated.

The institutional economics perspective, the local wisdom paradigm, the qualitative-interpretative paradigm, is used to conceptually reconstruct the existence of institutional economics and local wisdom of the coastal community of Muncar Banyuwangi village. The life of the coastal community of Muncar has redefined the existence of the coastal economy in an evolutionary manner. This coastal community has a different typology from spaces whose cultural wisdom identities become local identities. The community group has a different economic culture that is influenced by institutions and norms, power structures, community tacit knowledge of the coastal and marine environment,. Coastal community stereotypes emerge in regulating and managing the area and the community uses a lot of power structure in the management of harmony with nature (the sea). Forms of management that are formed through local economic institutions, among others, appear in the division of tasks, collateral cooperation (horizontal) with dependence on others (mutual cooperation) and strengthening the norms and social values that apply in this society. This new local paradigm gave birth to the transcendental behavior of the people inherent in the economic activities of catching and processing sea fish. The coastal area which is a fish production center is dominated by traditional capture fish processing with a natural management system. Keywords: Institutional Economics, Local wisdom paradigm, Coastal communities

Recent years have shown increasing awareness for the importance of adaptivity in e-learning. Since the learning style of each learner is different. Adaptive e-learning hypermedia system (AEHS) must fit different learner’s needs. A number of AEHS have been developed to support learning styles as a source for adaptation. However, these systems suffer from several problems, namely: lack of maintenance, adaptation to learning style, less attention was paid to thinking styles and the insertion of specific teaching strategies into learning content. This paper proposes an AEHS model based on thinking styles and knowledge level. On one hand, the developed prototype will assist a learner in accessing and using learning resources which are adapted according to his/her personal characteristics (in this case his/her thinking style and level of knowledge). On the other hand, it will facilitate the learning content teacher in the creation of appropriate learning objects and their application to suitable pedagogical strategies.
