THE UNIVERSITIES WEBSITES FEATURES AND RECRUITING FOR ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION

Работа посвящена вопросам использования вебсайта вуза в целях набора обучающихся на программы дополнительного профессионального образования. В эмпирической части статьи описана схема анализа веб-страниц, посвященных дополнительному профессиональному образованию, и приведены результаты исследования таких страниц, принадлежащих 210 российским вузам. The paper considers university's website as a recruiting tool for additional professional education. The empirical part of the article describes a scheme for analyzing additional professional education web pages, and presents the results of the 210 Russian universities websites content investigation.

A Wiki is an expandable collection of interlinked web pages that allows users to quickly and easily create and edit content. Wikis can be used for obtaining information and knowledge. They can also serve as a method of virtual collaboration to share dialogue and information among participants in group projects or allow learners to engage in learning. Wikis enable such activities and actively involve learners in their own construction of knowledge. In this paper the authors discuss the wiki they created (http://bihs-wiki.wikispaces.com/) for the Bangladesh Institute of Health Sciences. A brief orientation lecture and a hands-on workshop were arranged for all users. Content development for the wiki and learning activities went on concurrently. Students were more enthusiastic in this process and acted as ambassadors. The wiki is an effective platform for sharing information, experiences, and resources among health professional educators and learners.

Today, the idea of "digitalization" of many areas of activity is being actively implemented in Russia as a factor in the implementation of modern management technologies: "digitalization" of society, "digitalization" of the economy, "digitalization" of production, "digitalization" of management, etc. This idea was not spared by the “digitalization” of the organization of higher education management and the process of training the specialists in Russian universities for domestic organizations. However, not all “good” theoretical ideas have the same “good” practical implementation, since the practice reveals many problems in this area and expects the science to advise on their solution. This article shows the problems associated with the implementation of the ideas of "digitalization" of the organization of domestic higher education and shows possible ways to overcome them and improve the quality of training students as future professionals for domestic organizations, as well as the effective use of "digitalization" in higher education to increase its efficiency as a result of scientific and technological progress. Moreover, the development of such recommendations was based on the historical and modern domestic experience of organizing higher professional education in Russian universities.

The object of this research is distance learning, while the subject is the organization of distance learning in professional educational institutions with a long-term view. The author emphasizes the relevance of this research in the real and hypothetical epidemic conditions. The current stage is viewed as a period of contemplation or reconsideration of distance learning. The article employs the methods of theoretical and empirical analysis. The results of sociological surveys conducted among the students, pedagogues, rectors and vice-rectors of the Russian universities are analyzed. The  author indicates the conservatism of the modern system of education, and the importance of interaction between the main actors of the educational process. The fundamental difficulties in organization of distance learning are outlined. The scientific novelty of consists in creation of the model of educational process based on the empirical data underlying the development of distance learning. It is demonstrated that the conduct scientific research, development of information technologies, and improvement of the normative framework open new opportunities for creating a more effective learning environment. The key moment in increasing the effectiveness of the new form of learning consists in reaching the full presence effect, which allows implementing the traditional pedagogical technologies. Description is given to the possibilities of telepresence technology. The conclusion is formulated that distance learning can be transformed into a new form in accordance with the status of technological and technical development.

The article discusses the implementation of professional readiness of engineers taking into account regional characteristics in the system of additional professional education using the electronic educational environment of the university. Analysis and synthesis of studies on the use of e-education and distance learning technologies in Russia and abroad are carried out. Pedagogical experience on the use of vocational training in the system of additional professional education within the electronic educational environment of Russian universities is reviewed. Focusing on the needs of the region, an option is proposed to implement the professional readiness of engineers in the system of additional professional education in the electronic educational environment of the university.

Проанализированы основные положения Проекта 5-100 на предмет требований, выдвигаемых к вузам-участникам, методологии мировых рейтингов ARWU, QS, THE и их индикаторов как конечных результатов деятельности университетов, позиций российских университетов в мировом образовательном пространстве на примере Томского политехнического университета (ТПУ), а также предложение ряда мероприятий улучшающего вмешательства для корректировки ситуации. Проведен сопоставительный анализ позиций Массачусетского технологического института, Московского государственного университета им. М. В. Ломоносова и ТПУ в мировых рейтингах и определены две группы аспектов деятельности ТПУ: сильные стороны вуза с позиции рейтинга QS и аспекты, требующие корректировки в виду недостаточно высокого количества набираемых баллов. Перечислен ряд мер, направленных на усиление «слабых» позиций ТПУ в мировых рейтингах с целью улучшения качества показателей и предполагающих создание условий для развития мультиязыковой среды, переподготовки преподавателей и пересмотра образовательных программ. В качестве эффективного условия для консолидации рекомендованных мер предложено внедрение в систему обучения в вузе таких методов, которые бы создавали условия для развития мультиязыковой среды, т. е. методов, предполагающих интеграцию предметных знаний и иностранного языка. Гипотеза относительно эффективности методов, интегрирующих предметные и языковые знания, основывается на предположении об их потенциале в отношении усиления практической ориентированности языковой практики среди студентов и преподавателей, а также сокращения временного ресурса на овладение иностранным языком для профессиональной коммуникации. The article considers the urgent problem of improving the competitiveness of Russian universities in the global educational space. The problem is initiated by a challenging requirement to the system of Russian higher professional education, specifically, to comply with the modern pace of world development. This requirement is included in the list of global challenges for universities and is designated in the State Program of the Russian Federation “Development of Education in 2013–2020” as one of the crucial tasks of modernization and development of higher professional education. The launch of Project 5-100 has been the main vector of modernizing Russian higher education. The article aims to analyze the main provisions of Project 5-100, the methodology of world rankings ARWU, QS, THE and their indicators, the positions of Russian universities in the global educational space by the example of Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU), as well as to develop corrective measures. The main research methods were as follows: analysis of pedagogical literature, Project 5-100 documentation, methodology of world rankings ARWU, QS and THE, as well as analysis and synthesis of the information obtained. The study analyzed the positions of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Lomonosov Moscow State University and TPU in the world rankings and identified two groups of TPU activities: TPU strengths and underachievements with regard to QS ranking. As well, measures to fix underachievements by improving the quality of ranking indicators and providing the development of a multilingual environment, retraining teachers and revising educational programs were provided. An effective condition for the consolidation of the proposed measures, it is suggested to implement the teaching methods that would create conditions for the development of a multilingual environment, specifically, the methods involving the integration of subject knowledge and foreign language. The assumption regarding the effectiveness of methods integrating subject and language knowledge is based on their potential to strengthen the practical orientation of language practice among students and teachers, as well as reduce the time resource for mastering a foreign language for professional communication.

The process of globalization experienced by the whole international community could not but influence higher professional education. Russia is becoming an effective actor of the global educational space. Russian universities attract young people not only from the former Soviet Republics but also from China. The number of students from the PRC in Saint Petersburg State University is increasing year after year. The Department of Linguistics with its Bachelor program “English Language and English Literature” is especially popular. Today effective higher education is impossible without using a competence approach. The main goal is to make the graduates competent enough to work professionally. Here English Pragmatics and namely English Speech Act Theory are in the focus of our attention. The article is an attempt to analyze six years of experience of teaching Chinese students Theoretical grammar of the English Language and English Speech Act Theory.

Reforms and initiatives applied to the field of Russian higher education during the past decade focus particularly on extending the scope of communicative educational space and scientific fields integration. Consequently, linguistic competence contributing to significant acceleration of the processes of globalization and internationalization of the society as a whole becomes the key component of higher professional education. It is necessary to ascertain that the current system of language education in Russian universities fails to deal with the tasks in hand comprehensively. The search for more efficient didactical tools and ways of organizing teaching processes culminated in choosing the paradigm of integrated education, specifically, integration of subject knowledge and foreign language. This approach is well-renowned in scientific and educational literature as CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). The major objective of the present article is to analyze the current attempts of implementing CLIL in Russian Universities through the example of Tomsk Polytechnic University. The analysis comprises the effectiveness of CLIL didactic capacity, the prerequisites for its emergence as well as needs and challenges in the system of Russian higher education and intellectual labor market. As a conclusion, we offer a systematic list of measures that tend to improve the situation.

Abstract. Background: Gatekeeper training is an effective suicide prevention strategy. However, the appropriate targets of online gatekeeping have not yet been clarified. Aim: We examined the association between the outcomes of online gatekeeping using the Internet and the characteristics of consultation service users. Method: An advertisement to encourage the use of e-mail-based psychological consultation services among viewers was placed on web pages that showed the results of searches using suicide-related keywords. All e-mails received between October 2014 and December 2015 were replied to as part of gatekeeping, and the obtained data (responses to an online questionnaire and the content of the received e-mails) were analyzed. Results: A total of 154 consultation service users were analyzed, 35.7% of whom were male. The median age range was 20–29 years. Online gatekeeping was significantly more likely to be successful when such users faced financial/daily life or workplace problems, or revealed their names (including online names). By contrast, the activity was more likely to be unsuccessful when it was impossible to assess the problems faced by consultation service users. Conclusion: It may be possible to increase the success rate of online gatekeeping by targeting individuals facing financial/daily life or workplace problems with marked tendencies for self-disclosure.
