The realization of transport projects is accompanied by multiple risks which vary in nature. This is determined by the specificity of the transport activity and the multitude of internal and external factors which influence it. The occurrence of risks is caused by the inability to predict events which will take place in the future. This could lead to disasters, emergency situations and a lot of negative consequences for the transport firm such as reduced productivity, low competitiveness and insufficient highly qualified work force. Therefore, risk management in the development of transport projects needs to be aimed at the development and implementation of various methods which can reduce risks or prevent the probability for occurrence of unwanted events.

Over the last decade, risk management has become increasingly important both in financial and non-financial businesses. This is due to the increase in uncertainty caused by a number of internal and external factors. Genesis of business risk can be related to the divergence between external factors and components of organizational and operational structures of companies. In this chapter, a baseline risk taxonomy was proposed, and the cognitive, regulatory, and social components of risk inherent in a decision-making process were analyzed. A synthesis model was then elaborated, which exposes the relationships between decision-maker, decision-making, and environment for risk management, including through decision-making information technology.

Abstract The phenomenon of fraud and abuse remains relevant, as evidenced not only by studies published in this area, but also by the measures taken by economic operators to reduce it. Whistleblowing is an increasingly common tool for detecting fraudulent activities. It involves informing the organization’s management or external entities of any ethically, fraudulently or corruptly motivated irregularities. The level of interest in whistleblowing among Polish market entities is relatively low, mainly due to the lack of appropriate organizational culture, which is influenced by both internal and external factors within which the company operates. An important barrier in the implementation of whistleblowing in economic structures are both the ethical and sociological aspects and the low level of trust of potential whistleblowers towards their personal security for disclosing information about the signs of a prohibited act. Therefore, this tool is not very popular due to the lack of safeguards under national law, as well as internal regulations of entities using it. The aim of the publication is to verify the extent to which the whistleblowing tool is used to counteract the risk of abuse by economic entities listed on the Polish Stock Exchange, covered by the WIG 30 Index.
