This chapter discusses the act of reading text. In a valid and logical response to the cultural and institutional changes taking place, Media Studies started to look at the rise of e-media and its impact on the construction and consumption of media products. Always looking to be a contemporary subject, this refocus allowed teachers and students an opportunity to engage with the new institutional structures and audience behaviours. The subject changed its terminology and no longer focused on 'texts' but on 'media products'. This shift in the discourse identified that the act of 'reading' the-media had become a secondary consideration. This move away from what was seen as an 'old fashioned' textual focus has meant that students are often having to deal with complex ideas about how the-media works without first developing a confident analytical skills-base. The chapter then looks at the act of reading television, literary texts, 'high art' on TV, and games and beyond. Providing different reading experiences for students is the first step to helping them develop an appreciation for the complex art of reading.

A partir desse contexto, investigamos as obras literárias – O céu dos suicidas (2012), Divórcio (2013) e Delegado Tobias (2014) – e as narrativas midiáticas de Ricardo Lísias e identificamos nelas estratégias da publicidade.********************************************************************The novel by Ricardo Lísias: wide open windows to the subject hypermodernAbstract: Through the analysis of the novels of Ricardo Lísias and its self-critical production, this work intends to understand some relationships between the self-fiction literature and the popularization of the subject author immersed in the media universe. Starting from a literature review that conceptualizes the objects herein bounded and an earlier assessment of the literary production of young Brazilian writers selected by Granta magazine in 2012, we strengthened  ur focus on the novelist's movement toward the writing itself  nd self-reference. Pursuing this aim, we analyzed and contextualized the form of writing named autofiction, especially with regard to the similarities between instances of the narrator and the author and between biographema and fiction (FIGUEIREDO, 2013; KLINGER, 2012). We also evoked Sociology and Media Studies to characterize the society of which emerges the corpus of this study (LIPOVESTKY, 2004; SANTAELLA, 2012). From these premises, we investigated the literary works – Céu dos suicidas (Heaven suicide, 2012), Divórcio (Divorce, 2013) and Delegado Tobias (Tobias, the police chief, 2014) – and the media narratives of Ricardo Lísias and finally we identified his advertising strategies. Keywords: Self-ficction; Contemporary literature; Hypermodernity; Ricardo Lísias

Students’ understanding towards learning materials is generally influenced by the learning sources used. Lack of analytical skills and reasoning of the material taught especially stoichiometric material leads to a lack of interest in students' learning, students do not have a handbook but while learning takes place students use an inadequate number of textbooks in addition to covering only one or two representations. This study aimed to develop a learning module of multiple representation-based Stoichimetry concept. This study was a R &D method which adopting development of Brog & Gall. Sampling used purposive sampling. Subject in this research were students of class X IPA 2 as many as 9 students at initial field trials and 30 students of X IPA 1 at main field trials. Data collecting technique used were questionnaire and test. The data was analyzed by using Likert scale. The study revealed that the material validity by the material expert was 91,5%, and the validity by the media expert was 92,5%. The responses from the questionnaire on the practicality of the module were 88,17% and 86,89%. The effectiveness of the module could be seen from the students’ learning mastery value by 80,4%. In conclusion, the module that has been developed is considered feasible, practical, and effective to be used for both teachers and students in teaching learning process. Keywords: Stoichimetry Concept, Learning Module, Multiple Representation, Research and Development

This study aims to increase the learning motivation of students in studying the subject matter of chemical equilibrium. Therefore, we developed learning application based smartphone in a problem-based learning model that called ChemOnPhone which is valid, practical and effective to use. To achieve this aim, we followed the Hannafin and Peck's model development phases: analysis, design, development and implementation. The ChemOnPhone we built had been through validation processes by an educational media and a subject content experts. We then revised the app accordingly by considering these expert reviews until the app considered as valid.  To evaluate the practicality and the effectiveness of the app, we then tried it out to Year XI Science students of SMAN 2 Sidrap. The results of media validation and trial showed that: (1) the media was very valid (marked 3.93 out of 4), (2) the content was valid (marked 3.01 out of 4). ChemOnPhone was also considered practical and effective based on (1) The implementation was graded as effective (M = 1.85, 1.5 ≤ M ≤ 2.0), (2) The approval rate was 97.2% and 86.4% by teachers and students, accordingly. ChemOnPhone has met the effective criteria as (1) students learning motivation improved from 60.9% out of 84.4%, (2) students learning activity was averagely 87.5%, which met the active criterion, and (3) the average learning results achieved was 88.4% out of 100%, which pass the effective criteria of ≥ 80%. Curriculum changes in Indonesia are made to adapt to the times. In the 21st century, the quality of learning must be related to students' analytical skills. This study aimed to analyze teacher responses to curriculum changes in Indonesia. The method used was a survey. Research subjects or respondents consisted of school principals, two students in each school, and teachers. Interviews were conducted with principals, vice-principals, teachers, and students, while the teacher also fills in a closed questionnaire prepared previously. The analysis used is descriptive, which is assisted by a percentage. The results show that the teacher's response does not match the characteristics of the new curriculum. The characteristics of the new curriculum consist of aspects of learning methods. In this aspect the majority of teachers use the lecture method, while the new curriculum recommends the discovery method. In the media aspect, the majority of teachers do not use learning media optimally. In learning outcomes, students' abilities can only be measured in aspects of remembering and understanding. The teacher cannot respond directly to curriculum changes. The teacher's methods and media must follow the new curriculum's character so that students' analytical skills in the curriculum can be measured optimally.

This paper argues that, from the beginning, Media Studies — at least in Australian schools and universities — did not display the usual organising principles of an academic subject. Media Studies in both Australian secondary schools and universities has traditionally been organised to include the written alongside the oral and practical, to integrate theory with practice, to focus on the application — often at the expense of the abstraction of knowledge. At the school level, this theory/production integration has been justified and promoted under the rubric that students ‘learn by doing’. At university level, much of the same rhetoric is used but at the tertiary level media production classes also cater for the students who see — or hope to see — that a degree in Media Studies is an entrée into the media industries. This approach, the integration of training in media production with education in media theory and criticism, produces tensions, apparent contradictions and misalignments that are obvious to teachers and students alike. Drawing from post-modernist critiques and sociologies of subject knowledge, the study uses interviews with school teachers, students, academics and observations of lessons at school and university level to describe the issues and concerns from multiple perspectives.
