BACKGROUND: Hypertension is the major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of premature death and disability. Interactive education and training are potentially used to improve hypertension knowledge. AIM: This study aimed to identify the impact of training and education programs toward knowledge in hypertension for women cadres. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study was conducted in Surabaya, Indonesia, involving 100 women cadre. The data were collected through interviews, pre- and post-training using a validated researcher-made questionnaire of demographic characteristics, and knowledge tests of hypertension. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21. RESULTS: Knowledge of cadre was significantly increased by 50% after the training and education program (p < 0.001). The median score of the pre-test and post-test was 40.00 (30.00–50.00) and 60.00 (50.00–70.00), respectively. The level of education found to have a negative correlation with the post-test score (p = 0.008). There was no difference in knowledge increment after training among age groups (p = 0.261), marital status (p = 0.849), or occupations type (p = 0.827). CONCLUSION: Training and education programs significantly improve the hypertension knowledge of woman cadre. This method can be a preferable early public health intervention to tackle hypertension.

In light of contemporary pedagogical methods, the flipped classroom has been recognised as an effective pedagogy in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This study employed a quasi-experimental one-group research design to investigate the impact of flipped learning on Omani EFL learners&rsquo; grammar and to examine students&rsquo; perceptions on the flipped classroom. An intact group of students (n=28) enrolled at the foundation programme in Arab Open University-Oman was randomly selected. Seven videos on English grammar were developed and shared with the students prior to the class. A varaiety of activities were conducted in the class following task-based language teaching. Students met for 8 lessons over the period of 8 weeks. Pre-test, post-test and semi-structured interviews were used in the study. The findings indicated that flipped learning had a positive impact on students&rsquo; understanding and usage of English grammar. Students&rsquo; perceptions on the flipped approach were positive. The study also provided pedagogical insights for the flipped classroom and recommendations for future research.&nbsp;

The present study investigated the impact of the station rotation model (SRM) on enhancing students’ descriptive writing skills. It adopted the quasi-experimental pre-post test control/ experimental group design. The tools of the study included a pre/post- descriptive writing skills test, and open-ended questionnaire. The participants of the study were selected randomly, 40 female students enrolled in the twelfth intermediate school in Riyadh. Students of the experimental group received the descriptive writing skills instructions in nine sessions based on the SRM, two of them were for training. The study results revealed statistically significant differences at 0.05 level between the mean scores of the control and the experimental groups on the post test in favor of the experimental group in overall descriptive writing skills as well as in each descriptive writing skill. The researcher recommended that there is a real necessity from educators and teachers to prepare appropriate curriculums that involve implementing the station rotation model inside the classrooms, in a way that corresponds with teachers’ ability and students’ need, aiming to gain the mentioned advantages.

The purpose of the article is to investigate the impact of teaching and learning methods on Jordanian students' performance in primary schools. This study is of quasi-experimental design. Three tools are used in this study: an interactive board, a class PC and traditional tools. The data was collected by questionnaires, and then regressions were used to test the hypothesis. The results indicate that for creativity thinking, the highest difference between pre and post-test is related to class PC followed by traditional learning and finally interactive boards. Moreover, results indicate that the three tools affect fluency, flexibility and originality, while they have no significant effect on elaboration. The results also indicate that for the academic achievement class the PC reported the highest mean, followed by interactive boards and finally by traditional tools. Furthermore, results show that using class the PC and interactive boards affect students' creative thinking as compared to traditional teaching.

Health education programs supported by women's groups or workplaces have been successful in reaching large populations and changing intentions to perform breast health behaviors. This study examined the responses women working in the automotive industry had to two health education interventions, mailed pamphlets, and a combination of mailed material and classes at the worksite compared to a control group. A quasi-experimental design was used. Of the 948 women completing the pre-test, 437 also completed the post-test and were highly representative of the initial sample. The findings suggest that although the mailed information produced some change in practices and intentions, the classes in combination with the mailed pamphlets produced greater change. In addition, confidence in breast self examination as a method of detecting an existing breast lump increased from pre-test to post-test across all age groups. The reported influences on the women's decisions related to breast health varied across the life span. The results of this study can be used to support the development of effective health promotion programs for use at workplaces to increase the likelihood of women engaging in healthy breast practices.

This article reports on a study carried out in a foreign language school at a Colombian public university. Its main purpose was to analyze the extent to which the use of authentic materials and tasks contributes to the enhancement of the communicative competence on an A2 level English course. A mixed study composed of a quasi-experimental and a descriptive-qualitative research design was implemented by means of a pre-test, a post-test, observations, semi-structured interviews, surveys, and diaries. The findings showed that the use of authentic materials and tasks, within the framework of a pedagogical project, had an impact on students’ communicative competence progress and on the teaching practices of the experimental group teacher.

This article reports the results of a study that took place at a private university in Bogota, Colombia. An English language course was the scenario for applying a set of sessions that sought to determine how blended learning could influence the development of digital skills for creativity and communication via a pedagogical intervention during an academic term. A quasi-experimental design was carried out to measure the variable ‘communication and content creation skills’ by conducting a pre- and post-test survey. From the statistical test, the general hypothesis was accepted for the scope of this study, stating that the b-learning model did not develop the skills chosen in this implementation meaningfully. These findings imply that creativity and communication skills can be influenced by this model; also, thought-content-creation skills received a major influence according to the internal statistical tests. However, the statistical tests that comprised this method also suggested that the impact was not high enough to prove the main hypothesis. Furthermore, findings provide an opportunity to explore research designs that are not common in this field of education.

This novel study investigated the impact of English native speaker kids’ reading website on enhancing Saudi EFL university students’ complexity, accuracy and fluency (CAF) in narrative writing. The rationale for this study is the scant literature in the area of estimating narrative writing in terms of CAF. The quasi-experimental method was adopted in this study through a pre-/ post-test in narrative writing. Eleven level three participants were recruited from in this study. Instruments of the study included a pre-post-test in narrative writing, and the CAF measures. A Wilcoxon signed-Rank and Mann Whitney were used in the analysis. The study results found no significant differences at 0.05 level regarding the post administration of syntactic complexity ratios except (CP/T, CP/C, and CN/C) whose results were significant. The sub-constructs of lexical density and lexical variation were enhanced partially, and as a whole, whereas there was no increase/decrease regarding lexical sophistication. For accuracy measure, the results were significant in all ratios at 0.05 level except (EFC/C, and EFTC/S ratios). Concerning fluency measures, the results were insignificant at 0.05 in all ratios except (MLC ratio). The results of the study and their pedagogical implications were discussed.

The study examined the impact of boarding Secondary Schools on students’ achievement in mathematics. The study was conducted in Ogbia Education Zone of Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Two research questions and their corresponding null hypotheses guided the study. A post-test only of quasi- experimental research design was adopted. Furthermore, a purposive sampling technique was used to select a sample size of 219 senior secondary school class 1 (SSS 1) mathematics students from a mixed model boarding secondary school. This school consisted of both boarding and day students. A Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) was used to collect data from the students after a period of instruction that lasted for one full academic term. All data collected were analysed by the methods of mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. The finding indicated that the establishment of the model boarding secondary schools by the Bayelsa State Government had a very significant impact on students’ achievement in mathematics. The study recommended that more model boarding secondary schools should be established by the Bayelsa State Government.

The aims of this research were to find out (1) the extent to which Think-Pair-Share strategy improves speaking ability of the fourth semester students of Cokroaminoto Palopo University; (2) the students’ perceptions on the application of Think-Pair-Share strategy in speaking activities. This research was carried out in the fourth semester students of English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The method used was quasi-experimental research with pre-test, ten meetings of treatment, and post-test. The sample was selected through purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through speaking test, questionnaire, and recorder instruments, and were analyzed with nonparametric test and frequency test. The result of Mann-Whitney U test and the students’ score on post-test was p < 0.05. It means that, there is a significant difference between the students taught with Think-Pair-Share strategy and without Think-Pair-Share strategy. The mean score of experimental group on pretest was 2.16, and increased to be 4.02 on posttest. The analysis of questionnaire indicated that the students’ perceptions on the application of Think-Pair-Share strategy were very positive. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of Think-Pair-Share strategy could significantly improve the students’ speaking ability.

Indonesian students' creative thinking skill is still at a low level. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of project collaborative model assisted by Google Classroom (PjCM-GC) in improving students' creative thinking skills. This research explored the differences between students who learned through the demonstration model (DM), project collaborative model (PjCM), and project collaborative model assisted by Google Classroom (PjCM-GC). It was a quasi-experimental with pre and post-test design. The population of this research was students at Senior High School, Lombok Timur-Indonesia. Random sampling technique was employed in this study. The sample was 86 science students grade XI (15-16 ages) who studied in SMAN 1 Aikmel. The data analyzed by paired-sample t-test, comparative-descriptive analysis, and ANOVA mixed design using SPSS 24. The study showed that The PjCM-GC group had a significant difference in the level of creative thinking skills (sig .0000). The PjCM-GC was the most effective model to improve the skills with a gain score of .47 (medium). Learning with the PjCM-GC model can be an alternative for policymakers and teachers to solve the problems of creative thinking.
