Historical cost is the main basis for assessing tangible assets in the annual financial statements. However, the accounting regulations applicable in Romania allow the valuation of tangible investments at fair value determined by authorized persons. Once chosen, this option must be applied consistently for the entire class of tangible assets subject to revaluation. By January 1, 2015, national regulations did not allow the return from the fair value method to historical cost method. The chapter aims to present both the accounting and tax treatments to be adopted when choosing the fair value, as well as those related to returning to the cost-based approach.

Summary: For many centuries financial reporting has been rightfully labeled as conservative. The principle of prudence whose application generates conservatism, which is characterized by time asymmetry in the recognition of gains and losses, is not only one of the oldest but also one of the most influential rules in financial reporting. Determining the investors, creditors and other lenders as primary users of financial statements has led to the fact that in the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting the neutral presentation of financial statements has the absolute precedence over prudence, which is marked as undesirable. Numerous empirical studies largely caused by such a radical change have shown that the benefits of application of conservatism in financial reporting and in the present circumstances are such that they greatly surpass its weaknesses. On the other hand, neutrality can be achieved in the presentation of certain positions in financial statements but not under the existing circumstances and financial statements in general. Substituting prudence with neutrality violates consistency, which is necessary between the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting and IAS/IFRS. Many of IAS/IFRS contain requests for recognition and validation that are based on the prudence. Meeting these requests will inevitably lead to conservatism in the presentation of financial statements. Since IAS/IFRS are built on a mixed basis consisting of the historical cost concept, which is tightly linked with prudence, and fair value concept, which is linked with neutrality, then it is quite reasonable to expect both neutrally and conservatively presented information in the presentation of financial statements. By restoring prudence in the Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting, besides eliminating inconsistence that exists between it as a basis for revising existing and adopting new standards, contribution of conservatism to protecting the interests of creditors and investors would be confirmed.

The Muji Jaya Workshop in determining the cost of body repair, it still uses a manual estimate model with paper media which will result in losses if the calculation of the cost of body repair that is informed to the customer is not enough so that the body repair costs received are not sufficient for the needs of raw material costs and labor costs in body work. The repair and preparation of financial statements will be disrupted and delayed for a long time if the note paper used is lost or damaged. This results in the owner not being able to make decisions quickly, precisely and accurately. From these various problems, Workshop Muji Jaya implements the use of the activity based costing method in the accounting information system for determining body repair costs in order to make it easier to determine the cost of body repairs to be more accurate and in presenting financial statements to be easier and more efficient because this method is guided by the assignment of costs to products. or services based on all required activities.   Keywords: estimation, cost, activity based costing

This article discusses some important components of how the accounting standards of consolidated financial statements have changed under FASB Nos. 141R and 160. Goodwill consists of both the parent and the noncontrolling interest. Noncontrolling interest includes goodwill and is treated as equity, rather than a liability. Consolidation is based on the fair value of the subsidiary's net assets. If the parent acquired the subsidiary in multiple stages, the accounting method may have to change from the cost method to the equity method. And, any gains or losses from the previous investment must be recognized. After the controlling interest is reached, consolidation is required and goodwill is established. Any disposition of an investment in a subsidiary is treated as an equity transaction. This article emphasizes the complexity of stage acquisition.
