The business collaboration assumes several types and varies according to the invested resources and the level of commitment of the partners. The stimulus to collaboration lies in the pressures of globalization and increased competitiveness, supported by the development of new communication and information technologies. Tourism is a highly globalized and competitive sector, with specificities and high level of complexity of markets and tourist destinations. The collaboration promotes a strategic and organizational alignment between partners, which in tourism is decisive for the qualification of the destination and its sustainability. In the Serra da Estrela destination, the development of collaborative relationships is valued as a resource for companies and territories as well as a source of competitive advantages. The sharing of knowledge and experience, the association of corporate images, and the willingness to absorb new methods are considered favorable, but they present problems of formalization and communication, which require correction and coordination.

The explosion of online knowledge has made knowledge, paradoxically, difficult to find. A web or journal search might retrieve thousands of articles, ranked in a manner that is biased by, for example, popularity or eigenvalue centrality rather than by informed relevance to the complex query. With hundreds of thousands of articles published each year, the dense, tangled thicket of knowledge grows even more entwined. Although natural language processing and new methods of generating knowledge graphs can extract increasingly high-level interpretations from research articles, the results are inevitably biased toward recent, popular, and/or prestigious sources. This is a result of the inherent nature of human social-learning processes. To preserve and even rediscover lost scientific ideas, we employ the theory that scientific progress is punctuated by means of inspired, revolutionary ideas at the origin of new paradigms. Using a brief case example, we suggest how phylogenetic inference might be used to rediscover potentially useful lost discoveries, as a way in which machines could help drive revolutionary science.

The COVID-19 pandemic has altered healthcare delivery platforms from traditional face-to-face formats to online care through digital tools. The healthcare industry saw a rapid adoption of digital collaborative tools to provide care to patients, regardless of where patients or clinicians were located, while mitigating the risk of exposure to the coronavirus. Information technologies now allow healthcare providers to continue a high level of care for their patients through virtual visits, and to collaborate with other providers in the networks. Population health can be improved by social determinants of health and precision medicine working together. However, these two health-enhancing constructs work independently, resulting in suboptimal health results. This paper argues that artificial intelligence can provide clinical–community linkage that enhances overall population health. An exploratory roadmap is proposed.

The article deals with the development of festival tourism in the second half of the 20th century. Festival tourism is referred to the special types of tourism and should satisfy specific needs of people during the trip. The motivational basis of the festival tourism is the desire of people to visit new places, regions and events in the world, including festivals. The article analyzes the main factors of the development of festival tourism in the second half of the 20th century after the end of the Second World War. Six main groups of factors are determined, in particular: civilization, sociological and psychological factors; economic factors; political factors; technological factors; ecological factors and tourism as a factor in festival development. It was established that the progress of civilization and higher incomes made it possible to satisfy the basic social needs in the highly developed countries, as well as to concentrate on high-level needs, including those connected with culture and entertainment, thus, also with festivals. The collapse of the USSR and the democratization of the post-communist countries in Europe caused the appearance of a new cultural and entertainment activity. Moreover, the authorities began to take more and more responsibility for the socioeconomic development of cities and regions, including the cultural aspect, which in turn resulted in promotion of local festivals. The development of transport infrastructure and modern information technologies has also positively contributed to the development of festival tourism. The ecological approach to life and to civilization in general is considered to be an important factor in the development of festival tourism in recent years.

With the development of market relations, growing uncertainty and risk, the high level of competitiveness of the enterprise largely depends on the level of its innovation activity. In this article the author described the factors influencing the formation of the competitive potential of the subjects of innovative entrepreneurship, carried out their classification. In his opinion, the competitiveness of innovative entrepreneurs depends primarily on the economic situation achieved through economic strategy (policy). The economic policy of ensuring the competitiveness of the subjects of innovative entrepreneurship is formed both at the macroeconomic and microeconomic level. At each level of management requires a special organizational and economic approach that ensures the transformation of available resources into competitive advantages through the use of certain competencies. The author concludes that the achievement of competitive advantages in the market in the future and high competitiveness of the enterprise in the long run are possible due to efficient use of resource potential, high strategic opportunities to reproduce resource potential, strategic marketing orientation of the product offer. With the growth of the dynamics of competitiveness of the studied subject of innovative entrepreneurship, it is necessary to determine its position in the internal environment, ie to identify how the current ability to compete corresponds to the opportunities present in the external environment. With declining dynamics (as an option – the lack of dynamics), including those obtained in the current assessment of competitiveness, it is necessary to first identify the reasons for the decline in the competitiveness of the subject of innovative entrepreneurship. Given that the assessment of competitiveness integrates three key aspects, the reasons, respectively, can be social, economic or technological in nature (or be characterized by a combination of them). Competitiveness as an internal mechanism of effective activity of an economic entity transforms the market into a system of factors influencing the process of competition, thereby forming competitiveness in the field of a separate competitive field.

The article studies a relatively new for Russian economy indicator, i.e. personnel involvement. Practice of development and implementation of personnel involvement programs is rather widely spread in overseas organizations. In Russia programs of raising personnel involvement are used only in big companies. Personnel involvement is considered as an indicator of relations 'organization - worker', when the worker is ready to fulfill functions beyond the frames of his/her job description, to apply extra efforts in order to reach the set goals, to recommend the company as an honest employer and to continue working for the company as long as possible. It was found that personnel involvement is a complicated integrated indicator, which is affected by many factors. The author formulated the key groups of factors determining the level of personnel involvement. By analyzing the practice of home and overseas companies it is shown that employees with high level of involvement can provide higher results of the company work at the same time the interrelation between involvement and key business-coefficients of the company was revealed. Competitive advantages gained by today's companies, which use technologies of raising personnel involvement are grounded. Promising lines and trends of raising personnel involvement are formulated.


The transformation processes occurring in the country, causing the uneven development of individual regions, are characterized by increased competition at the regional level. The consequence of the acquisition of economic independence by the regions of the Russian Federation is a reappraisal of its current position and basic functions, the implementation of which is aimed at asserting themselves and strengthening their reliable position in the market and socio-economic spaces of the country by increasing competitive advantages. The formation of competitive advantages of the regions based on the resource potential in the conditions of market relations is the main condition for increasing the efficiency of regional socio-economic systems, predetermining both the sustainable development of the region by ensuring a high level of economic performance and the life quality of the population, and further prospects for the development of environmental and institutional components. The purpose of the study is to assess the degree of influence of key components of the region’s resource potential on the gross regional product per capita as the main recognized indicator of regional development and regional competitiveness based on building an econometric model with the subsequent development of a projection of changes in the indicator of a specific region under the influence of quality and quantity resource potential. The aim of this article is to show the possibilities of spatial modelling and analysing of assumptions of tourism development in the Czech Republic with the objective to make decision-making processes in tourism easier and more efficient (for companies, clients as well as destination managements). The development and placement of tourism depend on the factors (conditions) that influence its application in specific areas. These factors are usually divided into three groups: selective, localization and realization. Tourism is inseparably connected with space – countryside. The countryside can be modelled and consecutively analysed by the means of geographical information technologies. With the help of spatial modelling and following analyses the localization and realization conditions in the regions of the Czech Republic have been evaluated. The best localization conditions have been found in the Liberecký region. The capital city of Prague has negligible natural conditions; however, those social ones are on a high level. Next, the spatial analyses have shown that the best realization conditions are provided by the capital city of Prague. Then the Central-Bohemian, South-Moravian, Moravian-Silesian and Karlovarský regions follow. The development of tourism destination is depended not only on the localization and realization factors but it is basically affected by the level of local destination management. Spatial modelling can help destination managers in decision-making processes in order to optimal use of destination potential and efficient targeting their marketing activities.

The article deals with the problem of selecting efficient ships by the feasibility study in which brake power, main dimensions, payload, speed and fuel consumption are determined. The necessity of using the proposed selection at the initial stage of the ship's design is justified; the problems that arise at the present time are denoted. The purpose of the article is to propose a criterion for the selection of efficient vessels, "tied" to the operating conditions, based on the marginal cost of the ship. A method for its determination is presented. At the same time, annual revenues and operating costs should be determined by modern methods of business planning for the operation of the fleet. When searching for the parameters of the ship, the optimal fuel consumption is determined. The rest of the costs can be found according to the coefficients "tied" to the fuel consumption and calculated on the basis of existing prototypes. The results of calculations by the proposed method are shown; its merits and opportunities for improvement are noted with the availability of relevant information. The conclusion is made about the convenience and applicability of the proposed option for selecting efficient ship for the feasibility study based on optimization methods for determining the parameters of vessels under conditions of a high level of use of information technologies.

In modern conditions, the further development of the market economy puts each subject of economic activity in very difficult conditions. For the survival and effective functioning of an organization, it is no longer enough to simply produce goods in the maximum possible volume, it is especially important to sell these goods. The significant role of sales activities in the enterprise management requires searching for new methods of improvement, one of which is the revision of existing and the development of new optimal distribution channels under conditions of environmental uncertainty. Currently, distribution channels for final products are a complex multi-structure system with active elements, operating in a dynamically developing market environment. Studies by economists show that the complexity (complexity) of this system is based not on the number of elements, but on the nature of the network structure (the complexity of the structure of the system and the interactions of its components). This article presents a visual analysis of the sales activities of one of the largest Russian confectionery manufacturers - “OOO Lamzur”. For this kind of enterprises, the organization of sales activities is very important in ensuring economic efficiency and achieving high competitive advantages. In the marketing activities of the investigated enterprise, a number of problem areas are identified that impede its development. In the process of analyzing sales activities, a number of shortcomings were noted, the key of which is the loss by the enterprise of such sales functions as establishing feedback with consumers. In the course of the study, the effectiveness of the marketing activities of “OOO Lamzur” was assessed based on the analysis of the dynamics of sales of confectionery products, as well as by interviewing customers.

The advent of information technologies brought with it the availability of huge amounts of data to be utilized by enterprises. Data mining technologies are used to search vast amounts of data for vital insight regarding business. Data mining is used to acquire business intelligence and to acquire hidden knowledge in large databases or the Internet. Business intelligence can find hidden relations, predict future outcomes, and speculate and allocate resources. This uncovered knowledge helps in gaining competitive advantages, better customer relationships, and even fraud detection. In this chapter, the authors describe how data mining is used to achieve business intelligence. Furthermore, they look into some of the challenges in achieving business intelligence.
