Thanks to the rapid development in the field of information technology, healthcare providers rely more and more on information systems to deliver professional and administrative services. There are high demands for those information systems that provide timely and accurate patient medical information. High-quality healthcare services depend on the ability of the healthcare provider to readily access the information such as a patient’s test results and treatment notes. Failure to access this information may delay diagnosis, resulting in improper treatment and rising costs (Rind et al., 1997).

High-quality healthcare services depend on the ability of the healthcare provider to readily access the information such as a patient’s test results and treatment notes. Failure to access this information may delay diagnosis, resulting in improper treatment and rising costs (Rind et al., 1997). Compared to paper-based patient data, computer-based patient data has more complex security requirements as more technologies are involved. One of the key drivers to systematically enhance the protection of private health information within healthcare providers is compliance with the healthcare information system security standard framework and related legislation. Security standards and legislation of the healthcare information system are critical for ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of private health information (Amatayakul, 1999). Privacy determines who should have access, what constitutes the patient’s rights to confidentiality, and what constitutes inappropriate access to health records. Security is embodied in standards and technology that ensure the confidentiality of healthcare information and enable health data integrity policies to be carried out.

It is important to ensure that people with intellectual disability (ID) have access to high quality healthcare services. There is a wide variation in the availability of services and service delivery models globally for people with ID. Reasons for these variations are examined including availability of workforce resources and the development and availability of specialist resources. Tracing the development of services across the world, the chapter goes on to review the ongoing debate on access to generalized healthcare services versus the role of specialist services. We review advantages and disadvantages of different service delivery models. While these models have evolved in response to the political, cultural, and economic environment, it is important that any development of service delivery model signs up to basic underlying principles of person-centred, right-based, and outcome-focused approach. This should be undertaken in partnership with service users and carers in the spirit of co-production and with the underlying principles of choice, inclusion, rights, and independence. Any service development should also ensure that it would meet the complex health needs of people with ID as described in the tiered model of services with an efficient use of available resources. It should be sustainable through development of skills, competencies, and capabilities of the workforce and agencies that work with people with ID. There are number of examples across countries of innovative service provisions by public, private, and voluntary sectors as described in the chapter and it is important that we learn from those models. Advocating should be an integral aspect of any service delivery; we should be constantly advocating globally for high quality healthcare based on the best available evidence for people with ID.

The analysis of critical incidents is crucial to the provision of safe, high quality healthcare services to patients. It is essential to analyse the incident and make decisions about how future similar incidents should be dealt with. This article is a reflection on a critical incident involving a theatre practitioner working outside her normal field of responsibility which was used to change practice.

Nowadays, with the rapid development of science and technology, network information technology is widely applied to various enterprise departments. In order to meet the increasing social needs, power companies have also built power network information systems. The establishment of the network information system has been put into use, which has greatly improved the efficiency of the power enterprise. However, the security risks of network information systems have followed. Once the network is damaged by the attack, it will cause the power system to fail to operate normally, which will inevitably cause significant losses. Power system information security issues threaten the security of the power system and the entire power industry. Studying the information security of power systems, how to protect the power information network from threats, how to ensure the safe and stable supply of electricity to the whole society, and striving to develop a safe and effective power network information system is an important issue facing the development of information technology.

The current research on the information systems (IS) shows that emotion and cognition can affect behavior, but their interaction with each other is not clear. This paper attempts to clarify the interaction between emotion and cognition and explain their antecedents and consequences. This research includes a meta-analysis composed of 33 papers related to emotion and cognition in high-quality IS journals. Results reveal cognition affects emotion when emotion can be changed or manipulated by an external stimulus, and emotion can be attributed to a combination of multiple cognitive appraisals. By contrast, emotion affects cognition when it involves the use of information technology and focuses on intuitive interface design features and stable personality traits. The authors contribute to the literature with a more comprehensive summary of antecedents and consequences of emotion and cognition and provide practical implications for enterprises to understand consumer behavior from the perspective of the interaction between emotion and cognition.

As e-healthcare becomes a reality for healthcare service provision across the world, challenges in acceptance, implementation, usage and effectiveness have begun to emerge. The infrastructure, readiness and literacy levels required for the effective delivery of e-healthcare services may be prohibitive in providing access to those most in need. As research brings to light the real effectiveness of e-healthcare programmes across the globe, this paper explores how e-healthcare has been implemented worldwide and how populations have been served by an innovation in Information Technology and healthcare that has sought to bring health services to remote areas, improve access to healthcare and narrow the divide between healthcare providers and patients. While notable achievements have seen real time clinical data captured and medical records digitalised, the very determinants responsible for actual health and social disparities are equally responsible for disparities is access to e-healthcare.

The world continues to be driven by the rapid development of information technology and globalization. Not surprisingly, the working environments that have been projected to grow the fastest are all related to the usage of computers, the Internet, and information systems. With globalization, many multinational corporations (MNCs) are increasingly employing virtual teams (VTs). It was reported that 137 million workers worldwide are involved in some form of remote electronic work (Solomon, 2001).

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted healthcare worldwide and laid several fundamental problems that will have to be tackled to ensure high-quality healthcare services. This pandemic has represented an unparalleled challenge for healthcare systems and poses an opportunity to innovate and implement new solutions. Digital transformation within healthcare organizations has started and is reshaping healthcare. Technologies such as blockchain and IoT can bring about a revolution in healthcare and help solve many of the problems associated with healthcare systems that the COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated. In this chapter, IoT and blockchain technologies were discussed, focusing on their main characteristics, integration benefits, and limitations, identifying the challenges to be addressed soon. The authors further explored its potential in describing concrete cases and possible applications for healthcare in general and specifically for COVID-19.
