Views of Academic Staff About the Assessment Processes of Online Courses During the COVID-19 Pandemic

This study aimed to determine views of academic staff about the assessment processes of online courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the study, the case study method, one of qualitative research methods, was used. The participants of the study were 42 academic staff teaching in six faculties from nine universities in Turkey. The research data were collected using the semi-structured interview method, and content analysis was conducted on the collected data. According to the research results, most of the participants used more than one method for assessment, and the most common methods were homework, tests with multiple choice questions, tests with open-ended questions, projects, and reports. It was found that the most important problem reported by the participants in relation to assessment was the cheating done by students in online exams. In line with the opinions at the end of the research, suggestions were put forward regarding the academic staff's assessment processes of online courses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim of the study is to determine experiences of children attending a preschool class and their teacher about class rules, desirable and undesirable behaviors and strategies followed by the teacher concerning these behaviors. The study is a case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The participants were 14 children attending a class for 5 year-olds in an independent kindergarten and the teacher of the class. Semi-structured interview technique was used in the study. In addition, in two of the questions in the interview, the students were asked to draw pictures to help them describe their experiences in more detail. The data in the study were analyzed by content analysis, categorized by coding, and themes and sub-themes were obtained. As a result of the research, it was found that the opinions of the children and their teachers about class rules and undesirable behaviors were in parallel with each other. The study revealed that the experiences of children and the teacher overlap in terms of behaviors and strategies followed by the teacher in response to desirable behaviors. However, it was found that the experiences of children and their teacher differ with regards to the way class rules are determined, and behaviors and strategies followed by the teacher concerning undesirable behaviors.

This research is qualitative research with case study method. The focus of this research is to explore the value of ethnomathematics in the culture of the Bali Mula society in the Kintamani sub-district, Bali Province. The research starts from the exploration phase of ethnomathematics, mapping ethnomathematics with school mathematics, explores aspects of pedagogy in the preservation of ethnomathematics and concludes on how ethnomathematics is applied to mathematics learning in schools. Data collection was carried out through observation of Mejejahitan activities carried out by Bali Mula women. Data from observations are then linked to the results of documentation analysis and strengthened by the results of interviews. The triangulation method is carried out to check the validity of the research data. Based on the results of data analysis there is a relationship between the activities of Mejejahitan with school mathematics. The mathematical concepts contained in the Majejahitan activity that is reflecting (reflecting) and predicting or predicting patterns. Because there is a relationship between Majejahitan activities with school mathematics, it can be said that there are ethnomathematics values in the culture of the Bali Mula society in Kintamani District, Bali Province.

This article is about intergenerational social mobility, that is about children achievement compare to that of their parent. One of aspects of intergenerational social mobility is occupation. Nowaday different oportunity of profession is open for children. However it is found that the is the reality whereby children pursuing the same profession as the profession of their parents. This article discusses about causes of children choosing the same profession with the profession of their parents. The children studied are those whose parents profession midle rank police officers.  Using qualitative research data with the case study method of 7 police children and by using phenomenological theory. The finding of  this research shows that the police children are motivated to choose police officer for their profession,because of having proud of police profession. This is because of unique experiences that children get when they observe their parents’ routine working activities. That parents’ working activity inspire them to pursue the same profession with their parents.

Turks are one of those migrants living in Europe with constituting majority of the migrants in the country of residence and Denmark is among those countries that opened its doors to Turks since 1960's. In this research, I specifically focus on the diaspora consciousness, relations and belonging of the Turkish migrants in Denmark. In doing that, Copenhagen is chosen as the city for the case study. Focusing on the Turkish diaspora and reflection of the sociological realities in the issue of integration to Denmark is the basis of this research. I use qualitative research method and interviewed with 7 migrants from Turkey in living in Copenhagen while conducting my research applying structured interview method. In this study, I have found out that diaspora identity has a significant role in getting integrated to Denmark. As a result of these, migrant Turkish identity becomes bolder which has a direct affect in the level of integration to Denmark.

The research used in this paper is a qualitative research method with descriptive analytical case study method, which is an analysis that produces descriptive data in the form of written or oral words from people and behaviors that can be observed with a predetermined method. The purpose of this method is to minimize the results of research difficult to manipulate because researchers have little chance to control events that will occur. The event in question is the empowerment of the Rungkut Jaya Surabaya Mosque Amil Zakat Institution in improving mustahiq welfare, so that the data needed is not enough historical data but interviews are needed, and direct observation in the field. This research was motivated by a phenomenon of paralympic athletes with physical, visual, hearing and intellectual dissabilities that were demanded to keep confident and overcome problems. Stress often happens to athletes when the match is in progress so this stress causes failure on their competition and they are demanded to come up again after failure. Athletes need a tendency of hardiness personality to overcome every problem in the match so the atheletes can gain an achievement. The purpose of this research was to describe a paralympic athlete’s tendency of hardiness personality. This research used qualitative research with case-study method. A paralympic athelete who had international achievement in 200 and 400-meter sprints was recruited as the participant in this research. Data were collected using interviews, observations and document reviews which then analyzed by using thematic analysis. The results showed that the participant had tendency of hardiness personality shown by his understanding of the purpose of life, involving his self in daily activities, and controlling each of his problem. The participant also had optimism and ready to take the challenge. Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena atlet paralympic dengan ketidakmampuan secara fisik, penglihatan, pendengaran dan intelektual yang dituntut untuk tetap percaya diri dan mampu mengatasi permasalahan. Stres seringkali terjadi pada atlet ketika pertandingan berlangsung sehingga stres ini menyebabkan kegagalan dipertandingannya dan mereka dituntut untuk bangkit kembali setelah kegagalan. Atlet membutuhkan kecenderungan kepribadian hardiness untuk mengatasi setiap masalah dalam pertandingan sehingga atlet dapat mencapai prestasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan kecenderungan kepribadian hardiness atlet paralympic. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Atlet paralympic yang memiliki prestasi tingkat internasional nomor perlombaan lari cepat 200 dan 400 meter dipilih sebagai partisipan pada penelitian ini. Data dikumpulkan dengan wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa partisipan memiliki kecenderungan kepribadian hardiness yang ditunjukkan dengan pemahamannya pada tujuan hidup, melibatkan diri dalam aktivitas sehari-hari, pengendalian setiap masalah. Partisipan juga memiliki optimis dan berani mengambil tantangan.

The aim of the present study is to identify the approach of social studies pre-service teachers to legal topics in the “Basic Law” lesson within the Social Studies Teaching Bachelor’s Degree Program. A case study based on qualitative research methods was employed. The study group consisted of 57 social studies pre-service teachers. Data was obtained using semi-structured interview forms consisting of open-ended questions. The interview form was administered twice, at the beginning and at the end of the semester. Data obtained was analysed using content analysis. At the beginning of the semester, the motives for teaching of the Basic Law lesson were identified in seven different categories. Consistent with the opinions of the pre-service teachers, it was determined that these categories were related to 26 subcategories. However, the motives for teaching the Basic Law lesson were indicated in 10 different categories at the end of the semester. Consistent with the opinions of the pre-service teachers, it was determined that the latter categories were related to 29 subcategories. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that the content of the lesson influenced students’ opinions. Based on the results of the study and the literature review, there are a limited number of studies that focus on the teaching of legal topics in social studies education in our country. Thus, in the future, further studies should be carried out in this field.

This research aims to determine the use of humor in Turkish classes in secondary schools. To this end, firstly, the humorous elements in the Turkish textbooks were examined, and then Turkish teachers’ views on these elements and their views and classroom practices regarding the use of humor in their classes were determined. The study was designed according to the case study method, one of the qualitative research methods. The humorous elements in the Turkish textbooks were collected through the document review method, and the views and classroom practices of the Turkish teachers regarding the use of humor were collected through a semi-structured interview form. In this context, interviews were made with 15 Turkish teachers working in public schools. The content analysis method was used to analyze the obtained data. According to the findings, most of the interviewed teachers included humorous elements in their classes through various classroom practices. In addition, it was determined that teachers consider humorous elements important because such elements increase students’ motivation and make classes more interesting. Finally, it was concluded that Turkish textbooks do not contain enough humorous elements.
