Customer Perception and Awareness of Green Banking Practices

The governments, business firms, policymakers, advocacy groups, and even the public recently are hotly debating on the issues of environmentally friendly practices. In this context, being a part of 'going green', green banking, which plays an important role in environmental sustainability, has been a buzzword in the global baking industry. This study identifies how the customers perceive the emerging concept of green banking initiatives of banks and also analyzes the factors that influence such practices of the customers. Using a structured questionnaire, the primary data were collected from 403 commercial banks of Kathmandu valley, Nepal. The awareness index was prepared, and the binary logit model was applied for the econometric analysis. This study observed that the customers are positive towards the environmentally friendly practices of banks and ready to adopt the green banking practices. The research implies that in order to promote environmental sustainability, banks and financial institutions should be able to educate the customers about green banking practices and their benefits.

The purpose of this paper is to determine how much is the “bonus” or “prize” to the sales per worker of Internet-using firms compared to not Internet-using firms. The authors employ some matching techniques based on an Argentinean database. The authors first present a binary logit model, in which the dependent variable is a dichotomous variable equal to 1 if the firm adopted Internet and 0 otherwise, to evaluate the factors that influence a firm’s probability of adopting Internet. A propensity score matching (PSM) model is then used to assess the impact of using Internet on the sales per worker. The authors find statically significant differences in the sales average between firms that are similar in many dimensions such as location, size, and sales market except for the Internet adoption decision. By probing that Internet access improves SME’s sales, the chapter is validating the Public Sector ICT modernization programs for SME. The contribution of this paper consists of using a well known technique as PSM to analyze a recent field of research which is the contribution of Internet adoption to the firm’s sales per worker.

  Pegadaian Syariah is one of the Islamic financial institutions in Indonesia that distributes funds in the form of money loans with collateral in the form of valuable goods to the lower middle class community, which aims to make it easier to provide loans under Sharia law and eradicate moneylenders who have run rampant among the public without us realizing it. In the implementation of the contract Rahn that occurs at the Sharia pawnshop, it must be in accordance with the fatwa of the National Sharia Board, but in terms of the implementation of each fatwa verse that has been determined, sometimes it is still different in practice and unclear so that a question arises or even assumes that Sharia Pawnshops and Conventional Pawnshops are the implementation is the same, there is no difference. This study aims to determine the implementation of the Sharia Rahn (pawning) contract at the New Bogor Syariah Pawnshop Branch Office and to determine the suitability of the implementation of the Syariah Rahn (pawning) contract at the New Bogor Syariah Pawnshop Branch Office with the DSN MUI Fatwa. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods, the data used are primary data and secondary data, data collection techniques using observation, interview and documentation techniques. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the Rahn contract at the New Bogor Syariah Pegadaian Branch Office has been implemented in accordance with existing Sharia provisions, such as fulfilling the pillars and requirements of Sharia Rahn (pawning). The implementation of the Rahn contract at the New Bogor Syariah Pawnshop Branch is in accordance with the MUI DSN Fatwas such as the MUI DSN Fatwa No. 25/DSN-MUI/III/2002 and DSN MUI Fatwa No.26/DSN-MUI/III/2002.I

This study aims to understand the users’ knowledge about plastic money, its current use, challenges they faced and way-forward. Based on descriptive research design, primary data is used for the purpose as per its suitability. A structured questionnaire has been arranged with the help of KOBO and devised for the information assortments from 404 plastic money users. Results found that people who use plastic money usually work in banks and financial institutions (33.87%) and are from the nuclear family (62.62%), with income between 25001 – 50000 (56%). 95.79 % of the respondents know about plastic money, and 86.3 % have plastic money. 88 % of respondents said they feel safe while using plastic money. 40.72% of respondents have faced challenges and problems while using plastic money. The majority (79.28%) of respondents believed that using the bank's services could be solved. It can be solved by giving training (34.85%), quick response to the problem raised by users (44.32%), update technology (34.47%) and keep a good network in the ATMs (71.79%) and quick solutions to the user's problems (75.76%). This study concludes that hassle-free transactions, a low-interest rate of credit cards, attractive advertisement, and awareness of how plastic money can use help and attract users of plastic money. .

The purchase of consumer goods for the public through financial institutions can answer and be a solution for the community to have these goods, while for financing institutions this is an opportunity to develop their business, both for goods such as cars, motorbikes, furniture and also electronic goods. The community gets the convenience of payments that can be paid in installments according to their ability. The problems and dynamics that arise in this consumer financing agreement are interesting things to study so that people will understand and find solutions. The method used in this study is juridical empirical, using primary data and secondary data and then analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques. The results of the study can answer that the relationship between consumers and financing institutions or companies is the relationship of consumer financing agreements. Consumer financing agreements are always in written form where the agreement clause has been provided by a finance company, or commonly referred to as a standard agreement. With limited purchasing power.

This study analyzed the determinants of rural households’ food security in the Kallu district of the Amhara region, Northern Ethiopia. The study used primary data collected from 395 randomly selected rural households. The study employed descriptive statistics and a binary logit model to estimate the status and determinants of smallholders’ food security, respectively. Of the total sample households, 47.30% are food insecure. The binary logit model results showed that sex and education level of the household head, livestock ownership, credit access, and technology adoption have positive and significant effects on food security, while age and market distance are negatively associated with the probability to be food secure. The results suggest that improving access to marketing and financial services will contribute to improving the food security status of smallholders.

Recent studies have documented that innovations improve profitability of firms. This article documents that deposit taking micro financial institutions that have adopted financial innovations have increased their profitability. The study covered five years between 2009-2013. Both primary and secondary data were used in the study. Primary data was obtained through administration of drop and pick questionnaires to selected employees of the institutions. Secondary data was obtained from financial statements and management reports of these deposit taking microfinance institutions. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, return on asset and multi-liner regression model to determine the effect of each financial innovation applied on profitability on the micro-financial institution. The results showed that most deposit taking microfinance institutions adopted these financial innovations in their current operations. There was strong positive relationship between individual innovations and profitability. In line with profitability ROA also showed improvement each year after the adoption of these financial innovations.

This paper looks at public and business attitudes towards artificial intelligence, examining the main factors that influence them. The conceptual model is based on the technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework and was tested through analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Primary data were collected by a public survey with a questionnaire specially developed for the study and by semi-structured interviews with experts in the artificial intelligence field and management representatives from various companies. This study aims to evaluate the current attitudes of the public and employees of various industries towards AI and investigate the factors that affect them. It was discovered that attitude towards AI differs significantly among industries. There is a significant difference in attitude towards AI between employees at organizations with already implemented AI solutions and employees at organizations with no intention to implement them in the near future. The three main factors which have an impact on AI adoption in an organization are top management’s attitude, competition and regulations. After determining the main factors that influence the attitudes of society and companies towards artificial intelligence, recommendations are provided for reducing various negative factors. The authors develop a proposition that justifies the activities needed for successful adoption of innovative technologies.

Efforts have been put in place to minimize the effects of construction activities and occupancy, but the problem of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions continues to have detrimental effects on the environment. As an effort to reduce GHG emissions, particularly carbon emissions, countable commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential net-zero energy (NZE) buildings were built around the globe during the past few years, and they are still operating. But there exist many challenges and barriers for the construction of NZE buildings. This study identifies the obstacles to developing NZE buildings, with a focus on single-family homes, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The study sought to identify the technical, organizational, and social challenges of constructing NZE buildings, realize the importance of the public awareness in making NZE homes, and provide recommendations on how to raise public knowledge. A qualitative approach was employed to collect the primary data through survey and interviews. The secondary data obtained from the literature review were also used to realize the benefits, challenges, and current situation of NZE buildings. Research results indicate that the construction of NZE buildings is faced with a myriad of challenges, including technical issues, the lack of governmental and institutional supports, and the lack of standardized measures. The public awareness of NZE homes has been found to be very low, thus limiting the uptake and adoption of the new technologies used in this type of homes. The present study also recommends that the government and the academic institutions should strive to support the NZE building technology through curriculum changes, technological uptake, and financial incentives to buyers and developers. The implementation of these recommendations may enhance the success and popularity of NZE homes in the GTA.
