Abstract The paper presents a practical example of improving quality and occupational safety on automated casting lines. Working conditions on the line of box moulding with horizontal mould split were analysed due to low degree of automation at the stage of cores or filters installation as well as spheroidizing mortar dosing. A simulation analysis was carried out, which was related to the grounds of introducing an automatic mortar dispenser to the mould. To carry out the research, a simulation model of a line in universal Arena software for modelling and simulation of manufacturing systems by Rockwell Software Inc. was created. A simulation experiment was carried out on a model in order to determine basic parameters of the working system. Organization and working conditions in other sections of the line were also analysed, paying particular attention to quality, ergonomics and occupational safety. Ergonomics analysis was carried out on manual cores installation workplace and filters installation workplace, and changes to these workplaces were suggested in order to eliminate actions being unnecessary and onerous for employees.

Weld sequence optimization, which is determining the best (and worst) welding sequence for welding work pieces, is a very common problem in welding design. The solution for such a combinatorial problem is limited by available resources. Although there are fast simulation models that support sequencing design, still it takes long because of many possible combinations, e.g. millions in a welded structure involving 10 passes. It is not feasible to choose the optimal sequence by evaluating all possible combinations, therefore this paper employs surrogate modeling that partially explores the design space and constructs an approximation model from some combinations of solutions of the expensive simulation model to mimic the behavior of the simulation model as closely as possible but at a much lower computational time and cost. This surrogate model, then, could be used to approximate the behavior of the other combinations and to find the best (and worst) sequence in terms of distortion. The technique is developed and tested on a simple panel structure with 4 weld passes, but essentially can be generalized to many weld passes. A comparison between the results of the surrogate model and the full transient FEM analysis all possible combinations shows the accuracy of the algorithm/model.

This paper takes a local drum-type corn thresher as an example. In order to make the threshing principle transform to the plate-tooth type, the width of the spike-tooth threshing component is increased gradually, and three threshing components of different shape and size are selected as the research objects. Based on the preliminary experimental research, the corn threshing process is simulation analyzed using the self-developed corn threshing process analysis software. The effects of the width of the threshing component on the corn ears threshing rate and kernel damage rate under different rates of drum rotation were studied from a macroscopic perspective. The results show that with the increase of drum rotation rate, both the corn ear threshing rate and kernel damage rate increase; with the increase of threshing component width, the threshing rate increases and the damage rate decreases; and when the component width is too large, the stacking between adjacent components has an impact on the threshing performance. The effects of threshing component width on the amount of kernel threshing and the total compressive force during the simulation time were investigated from microscopic perspective at different rates of drum rotation, and the results show that the microscopic analysis is consistent with the macroscopic analysis. Therefore, the optimization of the structural parameters and operating parameters of the threshing component was achieved. When the width of the threshing component was 25 mm and the roller speed was 187.50 rpm, the threshing performance was optimal, with a 98.04% corn ears threshing rate and a 2.56% kernel damage rate. This paper verifies the practical applicability of the corn threshing process analysis software and provides a reference for the optimal design of threshing devices.

The simulation of a crowd evacuating public buildings can be an important reference in planning the layout of buildings and formulating evacuation strategies. This paper proposes an agent-based crowd model; a crowd evacuation navigation simulation model is proposed for the multi-obstacle environment. We introduce the concept of navigation factor to describe the proximity of the navigation point to the exit. An algorithm for creating navigation points in multi-obstacle environment is proposed along with the global navigation and local navigation control algorithms of the crowd. We construct a crowd evacuation simulation prototype system with different simulation scenes using the scene editor. We conduct the crowd evacuation simulation experiment in the multi-obstacle scene, recording and analyzing the relevant experimental data. The simulation prototype system can be used to derive the evacuation time of the crowd and analyze the evacuation behavior of the crowd. It is expected to provide a visual deduction method for crowd management in an evacuation emergency.

Abstract Based on the one-dimensional simulation model of lubricating oil system is established and analyzed by using FLOWMASTER software, this paper proposes a new method of optimizing lubricating oil system by PID technology. Ensure that the configuration requirements and control strategies of the relevant accessories of the simulation model are satisfied with the design requirements. Firstly, by simulating lubricating oil pressure fluctuation and lubricating oil flow distribution under Open/Close Valve in different opening and closing time, the optimal opening/closing time of Open/Close Valve is determined to be 0.2 s and 0.5 s respectively. Secondly, by writing the controller script file combined with a controller to realize automatic unloading relief valve simulation, determine the relief valve pressure regulating range of 0∼0.38 MPa, For precision of constant pressure valve of oil spill, the simulation results show that the average 10 m3/h flow caused by pressure changes of about 0.06 MPa. Under the flow sudden change signal of about 40 m3/h, the maximum pressure change is less than 0.1 MPa. Through the simulation results, it is found that most of the lubrication parts in the original design have the phenomenon of flow redundancy, which causes unnecessary pump power loss. The system is optimized by PID technology. By comparing the simulation results before and after optimization, it is found that the speed of constant displacement pump could be changed in time by PID controller, and the flow redundancy could be improved significantly, so the lubricating oil system could be lower consumption and achieve the purpose of optimization.

In this paper, out-moving jaw crusher machine is regarded as the research object and we established the simulation model of virtual prototype based on Nastran. Through the simulation analysis of the movement process, trajectories of moving jaw side plate and a movable jaw toggle plate and related parameters were obtained and compared and verify the simulation model and theory model. The results show that: the simulation model reflects the motion characteristics of the theoretical model well. So it provides theoretical reference for improvement of dynamic performance analysis and structure design of jaw crusher and has important application value in engineering.

Cutting force and cutting temperature are two important parameters in the cutting processes. In this paper, AdvantEdge finite element analysis software was used to simulate and analyze the reaming process of aviation aluminum alloy 7050 by using PCD reamer. The cutting simulation model was established to investigate the effect of spindle speed, feed per tooth on thrust force and cutting temperature. Simulation results showed that the cutting force increased with the increase of feed per tooth at different spindle speeds. And in the case of different feed per tooth, the cutting force decreased slightly as the spindle speed increase. Besides, from the cutting temperature distributed in the reamer, the cutting temperature near the tip of the tool in the reaming process was highest, the cutting temperature increased with the increase of both spindle speed and feed per tooth.
