IT diffusion is central to the new economy and is reflected in a process of informatization of society and businesses. Although initially coined to represent the diffusion and adoption of information technology (IT) in all levels of society, the term informatization is also employed to represent the use of information technology resources in organizations. Weissbach (2003), for instance, defines informatization as being the process of gradual and increasing application of “planned and systematic use of IT penetrating the organization’s functions”. As pointed out by Lim (2001), the evaluation of an organization’s Informatization Level (IL) is an important managerial concern. The author also points out the difficulties associated with this evaluation, stating that “this is not a simple problem because informatization includes many intangible factors such as the quality of information and the organization’s culture”. The purpose of evaluating a company’s IL is to provide information for the organization to improve precisely its informatization level. It is also a means of benchmarking the efficacy and efficiency of IT investments in order to set up the baseline for improvement. This topic depicts a measurement method for the IL of companies and shows results of its application in 830 Brazilian industries (Zwicker, Vidal, & Souza, 2005). The development of this method was based on the principle that IT results in companies are not obtained merely through investments and the implementation of systems but rather through its proper use in business processes. The proposed method extends the informatization dimensions proposed by Lim (2001), using the process-based view of the IT business value creation model proposed by Soh and Markus (1995) and the concept of “information systems coverage” proposed by Ravarini, Tagliavini, Buonanno, and Sciuto (2002).

Dimensional and surface quality for plate production control is facing difficult engineering challenges. One of these challenges is that plates in large-scale mass production contain geometric uneven surfaces. There is a traditional measurement method used to assess the tile plate dimensions and surface quality based on standard specifications: ISO-10545-2: 1995, EOS-3168-2: 2007, and TIS 2398-2: 2008. A proposed measurement method of the dimensions and surface quality for ceramic oblong large-scale tile plate has been developed compared to the traditional method. The strategy of new method is based on CMM straightness measurement strategy instead of the centre point in the traditional method. Expanded uncertainties budgets in the measurements of each method have been estimated in detail. The capability of accurate estimations of real actual results for centre of curvature (CC), centre of edge (CE), warpage (W), and edge crack defects parameters has been achieved according to standards. Moreover, the obtained results not only showed better accurate new method but also improved the quality of plate products significantly.

The system of urban water supplying network which is very indicate and large-scale has complex spatial information and attributes, so the traditional method to manage the water supplying network is difficult to meet the actual needs of the network. Taking a urban water supplying network as an example, making full use of its powerful function of inquiring the data, analyzing and processing the spatial data, demonstrating interactively the data and graph of the geographic information system (GIS), the information management system of water supplying network based on ArcGIS is set up to achieve the goals of browsing the spatial data quickly, drawing the thematic map for the feedwater nodes, water supplying pipelines and other facilites. So it can improve the efficiency and quality of water supplying network management, and provide the scientific basis and technical support for the operation and maintenance of water supplying network and other daily management.

The effects of six factors, affecting during the acid zinc plating process as its technological conditions, on the thickness of the resulting zinc coating has been examined. In order to control the quality of the resulting zinc coating deposited on the surface alloy EN 355 at a constant current density of 5 [Adm-2], the mathematical model predicting the thickness of deposited coating was developed using Design of Experiments (DoE) method. The obtained mathematical model describes the resulting deposited layer of zinc coating in dependence on the factor-level changes and combinations with the reliability of 58.75%.

With the development of economical society and the stone industry, the product of granite thin slab becomes a trend, and gets the welcome of people. The grinding technology influences the quality of granite thin slab. This paper first introduced the situation of the grinding technology of granite thin slab, analyzed the mechanism of the grinding process of granite thin slab and fractured problem by observing the fractured granite thin slab. Then, based on the Hoek-Brown criterion, we researched the fracture criterion and the critical thickness of granite thin slab when grinding. Finally, we set up the fracture criterion of the granite thin slab and built the mathematical model between the thickness of the granite thin slab and grinding process parameters. According to the thickness of the granite thin slab, grinding process parameters can be formulated, in order to ensure the granite thin slab no fractured.

The large-scale behaviour of LoRaWAN networks has been studied through mathematical analysis and discrete-time simulations to understand their limitations. However, current literature is not always coherent in its assumptions and network setups. This paper proposes a comprehensive analysis of the known causes of packet loss in an uplink-only LoRaWAN network: duty cycle limitations, packet collision, insufficient coverage, and saturation of a receiver’s demodulation paths. Their impact on the overall Quality of Service (QoS) for a two-gateway network is also studied. The analysis is carried out with the discrete-event network simulator NS-3 and is set up to best fit the real behaviour of devices. This approach shows that increasing gateway density is only effective as the gateways are placed at a distance. Moreover, the trade-off between different outage conditions due to the uneven distribution of spreading factors is not always beneficial, diminishing returns as networks grow denser and wider. In particular, networks operating similarly to the one analysed in this paper should specifically avoid SF11 and 12, which decrease the average overall PDR by about 7% at 10% nodes increment across all configurations. The results of this work intend to homogenise behavioural assumptions and setups of future research investigating the capability of LoRaWAN networks and provide insight on the weight of each outage condition in a varying two-gateway network.

Psychological constructs are becoming increasingly important in social surveys. Scales for the assessment of these constructs are usually developed primarily for individual assessment and decision-making. Hence, in order to guarantee high levels of reliability, measurement precision, and validity, these scales are in most cases much too long to be applied in surveys. Such settings call for extremely short measures validated for the population as a whole. However, despite the unquestionable demand, appropriate measures are still lacking. There are several reasons for this. In particular, short scales have often been criticized for their potential psychometric shortcomings with regard to reliability and validity. In this article, the authors discuss the advantages of short scales as alternative measures in large-scale surveys. Possible reasons for the assumed limited psychometric qualities of short scales will be highlighted. The authors show that commonly used reliability estimators are not always appropriate for judging the quality of scales with a minimal number of items, and they offer recommendations for alternative estimation methods and suggestions for the construction of a thorough short scale.
