The main objective of this study is to perform a structural analysis of NiO-BCZY anode functional layer (AFL) with different weight ratio (NiO:BCZY = 20:80 and 40:60). NiO commercial powder and in-house developed BCZY synthesized by a sol-gel method are mixed and ground and then sintered at 1450° C for 5 hours to produce AFL powder. The single-cell (anode | CG-AFL| electrolyte | cathode) is fabricated with the anode substrates firstly die-pressed, then compositionally gradient anode functional layer (CG-AFL) and spin-coated with electrolyte thin film, accordingly. Structural characterization of AFL powder and conductivity of the single cell is performed using room temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD) and in-house developed electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) test station, respectively. Rietveld refinement analysis of the XRD data confirms the high purity single phase of NiO and BCZY. Both NiO and BCZY show a cubic crystal structure and each belongs to space group Fm-3m and Pm-3m, respectively. The lattice parameter (a = b = c) of NiO and BCZY are about 4.1818 Å3 and 4.3433 Å3 for 20NiO-80BCZY and 4.1825 Å3 and 4.3439 Å3 for 40NiO-60BCZY. EIS results show ohmic resistance (RS) and polarization resistance (RP) of the single cell are 14.8 and 16.23 Ωcm2 at 800 °C, respectively.

It is well known that sol-gel technique is a simple method to produce nano sized ceramic powders. In this study, cerium oxide doped zirconia samples, with 10 mol%-12mol% and14mol% CeO2, were synthesized by sol-gel technique and characterized. The surface morphology, elemental composition, microstructure, and phase analysis, of the sintered CeO2 doped ZrO2 ceramics were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDS) analysis, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) respectively. X-ray diffraction for samples sintered at 1550 °C for 4h revealed that the zirconia ceramics have a tetragonal phase structure. The addition of CeO2 can raise the content of the tetragonal phase, but the minor monoclinic phase exists even at the CeO2 content of 10 mol%. The effect of dopant concentration on the lattice parameter, average primary crystallite size and micro-strain was studied. Relative densities for CeO2 doped ZrO2 bulk ceramics varied between 95% and 99 %, depending on the CeO2 addition.

AbstractThis study presents a preparation of SrFe12O19– SrTiO3 nanocomposite synthesis via the green auto-combustion method. At first, SrFe12O19 nanoparticles were synthesized as a core and then, SrTiO3 nanoparticles were prepared as a shell for it to manufacture SrFe12O19–SrTiO3 nanocomposite. A novel sol-gel auto-combustion green synthesis method has been used with lemon juice as a capping agent. The prepared SrFe12O19–SrTiO3 nanocomposites were characterized by using several techniques to characterize their structural, morphological and magnetic properties. The crystal structures of the nanocomposite were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphology of SrFe12O19– SrTiO3 nanocomposite was studied by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The elemental composition of the materials was analyzed by an energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX). Magnetic properties and hysteresis loop of nanopowder were characterized via vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) in the room temperature. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectra of the samples showed the molecular bands of nanoparticles. Also, the photocatalytic behavior of nanocomposites has been checked by the degradation of azo dyes under irradiation of ultraviolet light.

We report the growth and characterization of quaternary AlGaInN. A combination of photoluminescence (PL), high-resolution x-ray diffraction (XRD), and Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) characterizations enables us to explore the contours of constant- PL peak energy and lattice parameter as functions of the quaternary compositions. The observation of room temperature PL emission at 351nm (with 20% Al and 5% In) renders initial evidence that the quaternary could be used to provide confinement for GaInN (and possibly GaN). AlGaInN/GaInN MQW heterostructures have been grown; both XRD and PL measurements suggest the possibility of incorporating this quaternary into optoelectronic devices.

In order to improve the osteoblast growth and bacteria resistance, Zn-containing hydroxyapatite (Zn-HA) and titanium oxide (TiO2) composite coatings were prepared to improve binding between coating and Ti substrate. TiO2 film was prepared on the surface of Ti by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) and Zn-HA coating was deposited on TiO2 using sol–gel technique. Phase structure, composition and microstructure of the surface coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), respectively. The adhesion strength between the coatings with different Zn content was measured by tensile testing. The results showed that there was no significant influence of Zn content on adhesion strength between coating and Ti substrate.

Design and fabrication of nanofibrous scaffolds should mimic the native extracellular matrix. This study is aimed at investigating electrospinning of polycaprolactone (PCL) blended with chitosan-gelatin complex. The morphologies were observed from scanning electron microscope. As-spun blended mats had thinner fibers than pure PCL. X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the degree of crystallinity. The intensity at two peaks at 2θof 21° and 23.5° gradually decreased with the percentage of chitosan-gelatin complex increasing. Moreover, incorporation of the complex could obviously improve the hydrophilicity of as-spun blended mats. Mechanical properties of as-spun nanofibrous mats were also tested. The elongation at break of fibrous mats increased with the PCL content increasing and the ultimate tensile strength varied with different weight ratios. The as-spun mats had higher tensile strength when the weight ratio of PCL to CS-Gel was 75/25 compared to pure PCL. Both as-spun PCL scaffolds and PCL/CS-Gel scaffolds supported the proliferation of porcine iliac endothelial cells, and PCL/CS-Gel had better cell viability than pure PCL. Therefore, electrospun PCL/Chitosan-gelatin nanofibrous mats with weight ratio of 75/25 have better hydrophilicity mechanical properties, and cell proliferation and thus would be a promising candidate for tissue engineering scaffolds.

ABSTRACTThin films of SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with thicknesses of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 μ were grown by Sol-gel technique on silicon, and annealed at 650°C. The SBN films were investigated by Raman scatering for the first time. Raman spectra in some of the samples present bands around 60, 167, 196, 222, 302, 451, 560, 771, 837, and 863 cm−1, which correspond to the SBN formation. The study indicates that the films are inhomogeneous, and only in samples with thicknesses 0.4 μ the SBN material was found in some places. The prominent Raman band around 870 cm−1, which is the A1g mode of the orthorhombic symmetry, is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the NbO6 octahedrals. The frequency of this band is found to shift in different places in the same sample, as well as from sample to sample. The frequency shifts and the width of the Raman bands are discussed in term of ions in non-equilibrium positions. FT-IR spectra reveal a sharp peak at 1260 cm−1, and two broad bands around 995 and 772 cm−1. The bandwidths of the latter two bands are believed to be associated with the presence of a high degree of defects in the films. The experimental results of the SBN films are compared with those obtained in SBT (T=Ta) films. X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques are also used for the structural characterization.

In this study, thin films of CaBi4Ti4O15with preferential crystal orientation were prepared by the chemical solution deposition (CSD) technique on a SiO2/Si substrate. The films consisted of a crystalline phase of bismuth-layer-structured dielectric. The as-deposited CaBi4Ti4O15thin films were crystallized in a conventional furnace annealing (RTA) under the temperature of 700 to 800°C for 1min. Structural and morphological characterization of the CBT thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The impedance analyzer HP4294A and HP4156C semiconductor parameters analyzer were used to measurement capacitance voltage (C-V) characteristics and leakage current density of electric field (J-E) characteristics by metal-ferroelectric-insulator- semiconductor (MFIS) structure. By the experimental result the CBT thin film in electrical field 20V, annealing temperature in 750°C the CBT thin film leaks the electric current is 1.88x10-7A/cm2and the memory window is 1.2V. In addition, we found the strongest (119) peak of as-deposited thin films as the annealed temperature of 750°C

Cobalt-chromium ferrite, CoCrxFe2−xO4 (x = 0–1.2), has been synthesized by the sol-gel auto-combustion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicates that samples calcined at 800 °C for 3 h were a single-cubic phase. The lattice parameter decreased with increasing Cr concentration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed that the sample powders were nanoparticles. It was confirmed from the room temperature Mössbauer spectra that transition from the ferrimagnetic state to the superparamagnetic state occurred with the doping of chromium. Both the saturation magnetization and the coercivity decreased with the chromium doping. With a higher annealing temperature, the saturation magnetization increased and the coercivity increased initially and then decreased for CoCr0.2Fe1.8O4.

A novel flame retardant polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) was successfully obtained via combination of non-hydrolytic and hydrolytic sol-gel routes. Chemical structure of the resultant PMSQ was determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry and powder X-ray diffraction, respectively. All the measurements demonstrated that the product possessed regular structure with chain-to-chain width of 0.87nm and chain thickness of 0.40nm. Weight average molecular weight of PMSQ was measured to be 3.5×105 using gel permeation chromatography. Numerical simulations of the molecular structure suggested that PMSQ should exhibit cis-isotactic configuration and double helical conformation at undisturbed condition.

ABSTRACTIn this work, we report on the material properties of ZnO doped with Mn, Co, and Fe grown by a modified melt growth technique. X-ray diffraction measurements show that transition metals can be incorporated on Zn sites; an increase in the lattice parameter is apparent with increasing doping level. UV-visible transmission and reflectance measurements have also been performed. Absorption bands in the visible regime are distinctive to the individual transition metal dopants. A noticeable shift in the optical band edge has been observed from these Mn/Co/Fe-doped ZnO crystals in comparison with the undoped material. ZnO may also provide a suitable platform for the incorporation of transition metal elements through high temperature near equilibrium growth processes; however, further work is required in order to employ these materials for spintronic applications.
