Abstract   This paper explores how parenting patterns in shaping children's character in the digital era with the perspective of the Qur'an. This is interesting because there is not much literature that discusses this theme in the view of the Qur'an. In today's digital era, almost everyone depends on gadgets, and children are no exception. This era is an era where there is a market for positive and negative things on social media. The spread of hoaxes, hate speech, and radicalism, for example, can be known through social media. This is a challenge that has the potential to affect the character of children who will become the nation's next generation, who should be given proper care so that good character is formed from an early age. Character building from an early age depends much on parenting patterns, because they are the first educators. In addition, the material given to children is also a determining factor in shaping children's character. Talking about parenting patterns in shaping children's character, it turns out that the Al-Qur'an has provided an overview in several letters, which tell how the ideal parenting patterns are carried out by parents towards their children.   Keywords: parenting patterns, character, digital era, Al-Qur'an. Kata Kunci: Pola pengasuhan, Karakter, Era digital, al-Qur`an.

AbstractThe dominant turn towards transmediality across the contemporary media industries has brought a range of emerging digital innovations and new possibilities for telling stories, be it in interactive television experiences, apps, social media, and so on. Despite such rich possibilities, the transmedia phenomenon has also arguably led to a kind of indirect flattening out of how we now understand different media forms, platforms, stories, and even characters. This article will explore the character-building practices that have been employed in augmenting the televisual experience of The walking dead (2010–present) across platforms. It looks at The walking dead: Red machete (2017–2018), a six-part webisode series available on AMC’s website, the AMC Story Sync facility (2012–present), a double-screen application designed to enable audiences to post live comments about the episodes, respond to surveys, and talk to other audiences via a chat platform, and finally AMC’s Talking dead (2011–present), a 30-minute accompanying talk show. I demonstrate how these three examples of what I call augmented television draw on sociological and anthropological notions of communication, modern social life, and environment in ways that present chances for what I call sociological character-building.

As we enter the 21PstP century, we often find ourselves living in an increasingly globalized world, a world which is characterized by the global cultural flows of people, technologies, capital, media, and ideologies (Appadurai 2015). Language, as a part of culture, is always evolving in response to socio-cultural changes. Thus, linguistic innovations via social media offer a particularly interesting locus to track such global flows. This paper aims to study how popular lexicons have emerged out of digital communication and have been widely used and interpreted by different groups of individuals involved in social media in contemporary China. As China is increasingly becoming integrated into the global economy, the widespread movement media networks, such as WeChat, QQ and Microblogs, has provided Chinese citizens with easy access to new words and new ways of using old forms. When did these linguistic innovations appear? What linguistic resources are used to bring about such changes? Why are new lexicons and new meaning created? And how do Chinese citizens respond to these media-induced language changes? By addressing these questions, this paper is oriented toward exploring the role of social media in language change as well as the relationship between language, identity and ideology in the context of globalization. Our findings suggest that these media-induced language innovations are not simple responses to the broader socio-cultural changes occurring inside and outside China. Instead, Chinese citizens, through creating, using or spreading new popular lexicons, are able to construct, negotiate, and make sense of multiple selves across those digital spaces. Therefore, social media has generated a network of ‘imagined communities’ that allow individuals of various social backgrounds to have practical images, expectations and self-actualizations that extend beyond temporal spatial limits (Anderson 1983; Boyd 2014). As such, linguistic innovations in those virtual spaces have created multiple figured worlds, within which, individuals’ identities and agencies are formed dialectically and dialogically in global cultural processes (Holland etal. 1998).
