Abstract Context: The assessment of an individual's mental toughness would assist clinicians in enhancing an individual's performance, improving compliance with the rehabilitation program, and improving the individual treatment program. However, no sound measure of mental toughness exists. Objective: To develop a new measure of mental toughness, the Mental, Emotional, and Bodily Toughness Inventory (MeBTough). Design: Participants were invited to complete a 45-item questionnaire. Setting: University research laboratory. Patients or Other Participants: A total of 261 undergraduate students were recruited to complete the questionnaire. Main Outcome Measure(s): The Rasch-calibrated item difficulties, fit statistics, and persons' mental toughness ability estimates were examined for model-data fit of the MeBTough. Results: Forty-three of the 45 items had good model-data fit with acceptable fit statistics. Results indicated that the distribution of items was fittingly targeted to the people and the collapsed rating scale functioned well. The item separation index (6.31) and separation reliability statistic (.98) provided evidence that the items had good variability with a high degree of confidence in replicating placement of the items from another sample. Conclusions: Results provided support for using the new measure of mental, emotional, and bodily toughness.

Rasch modeling was used to examine the 25-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale within adults ( n = 410) in a weight management program. Rasch analysis assessed model-data fit, item difficulty and person’s resilience level, an item-person map to evaluate relative distribution items and persons, and rating scale function. Four misfit items were identified and removed. Item difficulty ranged from 1.25 to 1.19 logits (higher logit values indicate more difficult items). Persons’ resilience level had wide distribution (resilience = 2.27 ± 1.56 logits). Item difficulty levels did not adequately assess higher resilience levels. An improved inventory that measures a wider range of resilient behaviors would improve measurement quality.

The aims of this study were: (1) to recognize the implementation of chemistry learning. (2) to identify the assessment conducted by the teacher in chemistry learning process. This study was an evaluation study with formative approach from Scriven. Evaluation was performed in chemistry learning process. The study was conducted at SMA N 1 Banguntapan (Senior High School). The respondents were 58 students. The instruments of the study was questionnaires with sumative rating scale models that modify the Likert scale. Data analysis techniques was quantitative descriptive, analyzed by using excel program thus was presented in the histogram to illustrate the achievement of the learning process and assessment conducted by the teacher. The results of this study were: (1) the achievement of the chemistry learning process was divided into 3 stages: the preliminary sections indicated a good category (pronounced by 55.17% respondents), the learning model revealed a good category as well (pronounced by 51.73% respondents) and the practicum indicated the very good category (pronounced by 55.17% respondents); (2) the learning assessment conducted by the teacher was in the good category, (pronounced by 65.52% respondents). Overall evaluation results show that the chemistry learning done by the teacher was good.

The Neurodevelopmental Ecological Screening Tool (NEST) is a new instrument to screen children for developmental challenges. This article describes the validation of the NEST neurodevelopmental domain. Data were collected from a nationwide purposely restricted sample of caregivers of children aged 3–5 years ( n = 231) living in poverty and experiencing homelessness. We used Rasch-based Rating Scale Models to select items with good fit. Cronbach’s alpha was used to measure the internal consistency validity of the entire neurodevelopmental domain. Construct validity and dimensional structure were obtained using confirmatory factor analysis. Interclass correlations were used to measure the test–retest reliability of the subdomains. Neurodevelopmental Ecological Screening Tool scores were compared to results on clinician-administered gold standard measures for a subsample ( n = 48). The neurodevelopmental domain score represents a single overarching risk construct with some variance attributable to distinct developmental constructs and validly and reliably identifies a child’s level of developmental risk.
