A slide crank and cam mechanism can be combined and used to drive a bandsaw blade grinder. The movement of these mechanisms must ensure a harmonious combination to avoid the impacts of a collision and dynamic load that appears on the cam and roller surfaces. The technical parameters can be determined by methods of geometry, or 3D simulation, or analytical methods. In order to flexibly design the cam and slide crank mechanism, this study uses the analytic method. By setting up mathematical formulas and applying Mathcad software, it allows to quickly determine and change the initial parameters of the mechanisms, evaluates their changes to the stroke and structural profile. Simultaneously, the graphs of the stroke, velocity, and acceleration of the cam mechanism allow the designer to evaluate and select suitable parameters.

The study deals with determination of the vertical load on the carrying structure of a flat wagon on the 18–100 and Y25 bogies using mathematic modelling. The study was made for an empty wagon passing over a joint irregularity. The authors calculated the carrying structure of a flat wagon with the designed parameters and the actual features recorded during field tests. The mathematical model was solved in MathCad software. The study found that application of the Y25 bogie for a flat wagon with the designed parameters can decrease the dynamic load by 41.1% in comparison to that with the 18–100 bogie. Therefore, application of the Y25 bogie under a flat wagon with the actual parameters allows decreasing the dynamic loading by 41.4% in comparison to that with the 18–100 bogie. The study also looks at the service life of the supporting structure of a flat wagon with the Y25 bogie, which can be more than twice as long as the 18–100 bogie. The research can be of interest for specialists concerned with improvements in the dynamic characteristics and the fatigue strength of freight cars, safe rail operation, freight security, and the results of the research can be used for development of innovative wagon structures.

It is a well-known fact that buckling values for columns under dynamical loads are different from those under static loads. Meier, Gerard and Davidson have already investigated the dynamics of the buckling of elastic columns theoretically and experimentally, and Hoff discussed analytical methods in detail. However, solid viscosities are neglected in all these researches. Previously, the author obtained the relationships between dynamic load factors and solid viscosities, and it was found that their effects on dynamic load factors cannot be neglected. It will be interesting to investigate the relationships between solid viscosities and dynamic buckling values.

Terrain corrections of gravity data are by far the most awkward and time‐consuming reductions needed in exploration geophysics. The terrain must be subdivided into small prisms; the average elevation of each prism must be found on a topographic map; the gravity field of each prism must be determined by analytical methods; and the contributions of all the prisms must be added up.

Shaking table is an important component in rapid detection system of microorganisms. Based on the discussion regarding the advantage and shortage of the shaking table, this paper proposed a simple, reliable, and low-cost automatic shaking table. Three mechanisms were discussed with the achievement of reciprocating motion: slide-crank mechanism, follower-cam mechanism, and incomplete gear mechanism. The three mechanisms were compared in mechanical motion pair, motion form, component design, and manufacturing process. The slide-crank mechanism was finally determined. To overcome the strong oscillation of the liquid in the test tube along a single direction, this paper improved the slider-crank mechanism, and whose trajectory was modified into an irregular circle.

The dynamic loading of the load-bearing structure of the articulated platform car made of round pipes loaded with tank containers was determined. The research was conducted by mathematical modeling. The solution of the equations of motion is carried out in the MathCad software package. It is established that under the influence of a longitudinal force of 2.5 MN on the front stops of the autocoupling, the acceleration on the first section of the platform car is 27.7 m/s² from the side of the force application, and on the second - 24.4 m/s2. To reduce the dynamic load of the load-bearing structure of the platform car, the possibility of using the concept of a harness device on it as an alternative to a typical self-coupling device is considered. The quenching of the kinetic energy of the impact is carried out due to the viscous resistance forces arising in the concept. The proposed implementation allows to reduce the dynamic load of the load-bearing structure of the platform car by 10% compared to the use of a standard self-coupling device. The conducted researches will promote creation of innovative designs of cars-platforms and increase of efficiency of use of railway transport.

Because of change in woman’s place in society, the number of working woman is growing and the demand of the breast pump is increasing as well. Commercial product of the breast pump is applying only negative pressure for sucking and many users feel a pain for a long term use. While a baby is using peristaltic motion as the result of tongue and jaw action in addition to suction. In this research, therefore the breast pump with a baby-like motion is developed. In order to realize baby-like peristaltic motion, cam mechanism is applied. Also for producing negative pressure, crank mechanism is utilized. As the result, it turns out that the breast pump developed is realized the same peristaltic motion and suction pattern as a baby. This paper is the full translation from the transactions of JSME Vol.73, No.730.

The first part of the work studied the rotating circular cam mechanism with flat face follower using analytical methods. The second part analyses the mechanism from kinematical point of view employing numerical methods and experimental techniques. There is a perfect agreement between numerical and analytical results, but the experimental results are more difficult to evaluate and compare as they are influenced by numerous error sources. The paper presents these inaccuracy sources and the ways to diminish their effects.
