The aim of this study is to examine the psychological and environmental variables which are related to the mathematics achievement of third-year students in Jamaican post-primary schools. A correlational study of the inter-relations of thirteen independent variables with the criterion, mathematics achievement, was factor-analysed to produce four factors which account for most of the variation in mathematical performance. These four factors are related to (i) the social environment of the student; (ii) affective personality traits characterised by the student's perception of his ability to do mathematics; (iii) the teachers of mathematics; and (iv) the degree of the urbanisation of the school's community.

This study explored the implementation of the whole school approach (WSA) on social and emotional guidance (SEG) in rural primary schools in Sarawak, Malaysia. Regular teachers (<i>N</i> = 2,532) in Sarawak responded to an electronic survey. The theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the socio-emotional guidance model were employed to explore the level of implementing the WSA on SEG among the respondents. Factors affecting the intention to be involved in SEG were also explored. This paper provides insights for policymakers and educational administrators to promote the social and emotional well-being of rural students in a developing country.

The sample was 227 students, who were chosen by simple random sampling method, from the departments of Physical Education and Sports, Sport Management and Recreation in the academic year of 2009-2010. The ACL personality test and a personal information form were used as the data collection tool. Validity and reliability study of ACL was made by Savran (2006). In this process, ACL and the personal information form were applied to participants twice providing two weeks between the applications. The scores of ACL was analyzed to check whether there are significant differences according to the independent variables. Independent sample t-test is used when there are two categories in the independent variables. In this research,  there were some significant variables at level of .05. Results showed that the participants’ personality traits significantly differ according to their perception of the social status of the profession, working in this profession in future, gender and dominant personality traits.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Özet</strong></p><p>Bu araştırmanın evrenini, Sakarya Üniversitesi’nde Beden Eğitimi ve Spor eğitimi alan öğrenciler; örneklemini ise Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Öğretmenliği, Spor Yöneticiliği Bölümü ve Rekreasyon Bölümü’nde 2009-2010 eğitim ve öğretim yılında öğrenimine devam etmekte olan ve tesadüfen seçilen gönüllü 227 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of rumors on both individuals and the society at large in Saudi Arabia. Over the past several decades, the Internet has dramatically changed the manner in which modern society communicates. In particular, online media have altered how rumors are transmitted, from hearing those rumors - ranging from word of mouth among people to misleading online messages. Although the manner in which rumors are circulated has evolved over time, only a few studies have been conducted on the dynamics of how rumor spreads on the social media in Saudi Arabia. It is worthwhile to discuss the impact of rumors on individuals and the society in Saudi Arabia and determine the factors affecting the impact of rumors in Saudi Arabia. In this research study, two variables have been discussed, i.e. dependent and independent variables: the impact of rumors on both individuals and the society at Saudi Arabia, which shows dependency upon independent variables such as Uncertainty, Belief, Motivational Factors and Self-Enhancement. Quantitative research method has been used for this study that entails a total of 200 used survey questionnaires to collect vital information regarding the topic of investigation.

To many social theoreticians, the population explosion, particularly in the developing nations presents a crippling threat to their developmental pro¬cesses. Their argument's validity rests mainly on the assumption that expected economic progress is swallowed up by unbalanced rise of numbers in the population. The book being reviewed deals mainly with this subject matter and is divided into two parts, each containing three articles contributed by various researchers. Part one, 'The Social context of Fertility Decision' is focused on analyzing the role of factors affecting fertility at the micro-level decision making process. The first article 'Fertility decision in rural India' by Vinod Jainath, examines the applicability to rural India of various models of the process of fertility decision making and finds most of these wanting with respect to the Indian social situation. While analyzing the fertility patterns of Rural India, he points out the positive need for larger families among the poor small farmers mainly due to labour supply considerations. The author argues that unemployment and under¬employment actually motivate the poor to have more children as it better ensures their economic security in their old age. As the chances of gaining employ¬ment for their offspring diminish, they are induced to increase the total number of children in order that atleast one will be able to support them. Thus a vicious circle of poverty arises in large families because of each of the parents wanting to increase their children's chances of employment by ultimately reducing the overall employment opportunities even further and exacerbating their poverty.
