Introduction: Agni (digestive and metabolic energy) is the main factor for digestion and metabolism. Meda (a type of body tissue i.e., fats) is formed from the Mamsa (a type of body tissue i.e., muscle) with its own Ushma (heat) in addition to the Snigdhatva (unctuousness) & Dravadtva Guna (liquidity) of Apa Mahabhuta (one of the fundamental components of this universe i.e., water). Due to impairment of Dhatvagni (metabolic energy), Medadusti (impair- ment of fats) takes place and in turn may result in Prameha (diabetes mellitus), Sthaulya (obesity) etc. Prameha is one of the leading diseases in the present era. The aggravated Kapha afflicts Meda, Mamsa and Kleda (moisture elements of the body) and in due course of time, Kaphaja Meha (a type of Prameha) is converted into Pittaja Meha (a type of Prameha), followed by Vataja Meha (another type of Prameha) if not treated properly. Aim: The present study was carried out to evaluate the concept of Meda and the role of Medadusti in the pathogenesis of Prameha along with the efficacy of the selected drug Mustak (Cyperus rotundus Linn.) to combat the situation. Material & Methods: In selected 35 patients of Prameha having the Medadusti Lakshan based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, Mustak (Cyprus rotundus Linn.) was administered in stipulated dose (12 grams in two divided doses with plain warm water) for two months. Result: The subjective parameters for Medadusti is clinically present in a max- imum number of Prameha patients. The result also reveals the significant efficacy of Mustak on relevant subjective and objective parameters with a 'p-value <0.001 in all subjective and objective parameters. Conclusion: The Nidan (aetiology) of Medadusti has a definite role to cause Prameha. In all the patients of Prameha, Medadusti Lakshan (features of impaired fatty tissue) is clinically present. The patients suffering from Prameha can be treated with the drug response to arrest the Medadusti like Mustak. Keywords: Medadusti, Mustak, Prameha

Introduction: Vitamin D deficiency is common among asthmatics with literature suggesting that its low levels in the body may trigger exacerbations and decrease the response to corticosteroid treatment. It has also shown to inhibit the production of cytokines, which in turn enhances the body’s response to corticosteroid treatment during an exacerbation. Therefore, maintenance of adequate levels of vitamin D in patients with asthma may reduce the risk of exacerbation and improve their general health. This study aims to explore the role of vitamin D supplementation in preventing asthma exacerbations. Methods: This single blind parallel arm interventional study was conducted in the pulmonology ward in a tertiary care hospital from June 2018 to April 2020. Two hundred (n= 200) participants with a history of frequent acute exacerbation of asthma were enrolled in the study via consecutive convenient non-probability technique. Participants were divided into two groups; the placebo and the interventional group that received 200,000 IU of vitamin D capsule. Results: Compared to day 0, mean episodes of exacerbation in the interventional group were significantly lower after 180 days (1.1 ± 0.4 vs. 0.61 ± 0.3; p-value <0.0001). Similarly, number of asthma attacks in past 7 days was significantly lower in intervention group after 180 days (4.4 ± 2.7 vs. 3.1 ± 1.5; p-value 0.0001) Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation is a safe and cost-friendly approach to reducing asthma exacerbations. It may also help to improve the condition in severe asthmatics with low vitamin D levels.

Mankind has faced many hardships like natural disaster, drought and epidemics. Study focuses on epidemics caused by microbes.Unani medicine has a long experience in treating epidemic diseases because its history is as old as the history of human being itself. More or less entire of the civilisations throughout the history became the basis for evolution of Unani medicine. Hippocrates (460-380BC) regarded it asbothart and science, discussed the epidemics and wrote a book on Epidemics. Body is assumed healthy when the humours are balanced. So, Unani scholars have rightly said Fa’il (Active agent) is not able to produce any change (Actions & Reactions) in the body without the prior presence of Munfa’il(Pertinent) having the capacity to accept it like in Waba(epidemic). The aim is to explore the fundamental concept of Waba from the Unani literature and understand COVID-19 in reference to existing literature of Unani medicine. The literature of Unani medicine was surveyed for concept of Waba(Epidemic) & related concepts. Internet was used to access indexed papers using search engines like Medline, PubMed, Science Direct, etc. Logical preventive strategies like quarantine, and useof fumigants, prophylactic drugs are mentioned in Unani literature that have been used in epidemics with flue like symptoms. This knowledge and experience may be used for achieving methods for prophylaxis, cure or add on therapeutic measures for COVID-19 epidemic.

<p>Pregnancy leads to increased energy metabolism, hence the need for energy and other nutrients increases during pregnancy. Increased energy and nutrients are needed for growth and development of the fetus, the increase in the amount of the uterus, changes in the composition and metabolism of the mother's body. If  levels of iron in the body of pregnant women is less, then there will be a condition called anemia. That's because iron is an essential microelement for the body. This substance is especially needed in hemopoiesis (blood formation), ie in the synthesis of hemoglobin. The purpose of this study was  to determine Knowledge of Pregnant Women About Iron Deficiency Anemia and Family Role With Compliance In Consuming Iron Tablet in health center . This study was a quantitative research, analytical, with cross sectional study subjects all mothers who have antenatal and get a tablet Fe in Tanjungpinang health center  based on data consist of 40 respondents. The result of this study was significat relationship between knowledge of pregnant women to iron deficiency anemia with Compliance Consuming Tablet iron  show the value of p 0814, the p-value is greater than the p value 0:05 was shows that no have correlation between knowledge of pregnant women about iron deficiency anemia with Compliance Consuming Iron Tablets. Family Role in monitoring drinking iron tablet  with Compliance Consuming Iron Tablets shows the value of p 0.00 is smaller than the value of α 0.05. This shows that there is a relationship between family role in monitoring drinking iron tablet with compliance consuming iron tablet. This study  indicated to increase Knowledge Level Of a Person On Iron Deficiency Anemia  Not Consume The Influence Behavior Of Iron Tablet  But Can Improve The Role Of Family In Compliance With Pregnant Women Eat Iron Tablet.</p>

Geriatric  disorder is growing problem in today’s era.  By 2050, one fifth of the world will be older than 65 years. As per Vagbhata ‘Vata Dosha’ is predominate in the body in old age. So there will be more catabolic activities taking place in the body which leads to many of chronic diseases like dementia, hypertension, diabetes, cardio vascular disease, etc.              Conventional system of medicine is not satisfactory in this problem as lack of holistic & compre    nsive approach towards this problem. Ayurveda has described Rasayana (Rejuvenation) Therapy which deals with old age complaints.  Rasayana drugs of Ayurveda like Aamalki, Shatavari,  Guduchi, Garlic, etc. are used to prevent,  cure diseases & to promote & preserve health of the healthy. Among these herbs,   Garlic (Allium sativum-Linn) has been widely used as one of the natural Rejuvenator & dietary                                                                                   factor. It treats number of diseases & considered as ‘Superior medicine’ for ‘Vata Dosha’.             Garlic has antioxidant properties, which improve general health & inhibit premature aging. In addition, it has anti-microbial, antihypertensive, anti- diabetic, anti carcinogenic, aphrodisiac & cardiac stimulant properties. Garlic detoxifies organ system, induces relaxation & promotes longevity.                 Scientific studies revealed that, antioxidants drugs have definite role in the prevention of Geriatric diseases. Garlic is cheap, easily available & easy for use.  Keeping all these facts in mind possible role of Garlic in Geriatric care will be discuss in detail in present paper.

The presence of an abnormally large amount of cholesterol in the blood is called Hypercholesterolemia which has been developed due to a sedentary lifestyle. The liver is the main organ for producing cholesterol in the body. Staulya (Obesity) which is included in Ashtau-Nindhita-Purusha (8 physical deformities) by Acharya Charaka (Ch. Su.21) is the disease caused due to vitiated Meda. As cholesterol is formed by fatty tissue i.e. Meda ex- plained in Ayurvedic literature. So, both the entities can be correlated as they both have the same composition i.e. fatty tissue. The present study aimed to find out the role of Ahariya Dravya (dietary substance) Atasi (flax seeds) administered twice a day for 3 months duration on patients of Hypercholesterolemia and some factors of Staulya. Objective: To evaluate the effects of Green tea on obesity and hyperglycemia. Methodology: This observational study was carried out at the department of physiology, in affiliation to Medical Research Centre Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro. The sample was collected by convenient random sampling. Total 100 participants, 50 controls and 50 obese diabetics were enrolled. Informed written consent was taken from participants. The body mass index (BMI) of the participants was taken at the time of recruitment, and later at 16 weeks of consuming green tea. The serum glucose levels were assessed by fasting (FBS) and random blood sugar (RBS) levels, and HbA1C. The levels of serum Blood glucose were obtained with the glucose oxidase method. Data analysis was done on SPSS 21.0, analysis of variables was done by applying student t-test, the p-value of <0.05 was taken as statistically significant. Results:100 participants recruited out of which 50 controls and 50 obese diabetics men, it was found that the prolong consumption of green tea for 16 weeks with 20-30 minutes’ walk had statistically significant declined in FBS, RBS, HbA1c, and BMI in the obese diabetic subjects, as compared to the controls. Conclusion: This study concludes that the green tea has positive effect in reducing the total body weight and BMI and helps in maintaining the normoglycemic levels in Type 2 DM.

Abstract Background and aim: Gestures are generally hand or body movements that express the feelings and intentions. It's a universal feature of communication and is tightly timed with speech. Gesture and Speech combine to reveal meaning that is not fully captured in one modality alone, as they share a common neural relationship. Many earlier studies have revealed the importance of gestures in improving learning in school children. Studies on the role of gestures in improving the learning skill in medicine are scarce. This study was carried out to find out whether gesturing improved the learning outcome of medical students. Materials and methods: Ninety four students from first MBBS batch were recruited and randomized in to four groups A,B,C and D. Group A and B (Topic I (n=46)) consists of 23 students each, whereas group C and D (Topic II (n=48)) consists of 24 students each. Group A and C who were taught with gestures formed the study group; Group B and D taught without gestures acted as control. Two lectures on two different topics were taken for both the study and the control groups without any audiovisual aids for 20 minutes during tutorial time in the department of Physiology and the results were analyzed statistically using Wilcoxan Ranksum test. Result : Results of the study on two lecture topics showed that the scores of the students taught with gestures was higher with a p value of 0.005 and 0.0248 than those taught without gestures both immediately as well as a week after the lecture. Conclusion : Gestures do have a definite role in improving learning in medical students. Along with other teaching aids, gestures should also become an integral part of teaching.

Realization of the genetic potential of poultry productivity in industrial poultry farming is achieved by creating optimal conditions for keeping poultry and providing it with compound feeds, balanced in terms of metabolic energy and a complex of nutrient, mineral and biologically active substances. Fiber has always been and remains among the standardized indicators in mixed feed for poultry, since its excessive amount in a number of feed products (hulled crops, bran, sunflower meal, cake, etc.) is associated with a reduced digestibility of nutrients and energy availability). It is believed that fiber maintains the balance of the intestinal microflora, stimulates the growth of the muscular stomach and motility of the digestive tract, being a natural sorbent, absorbs toxic substances and ensures normal digestion and absorption of nutrients in feed. Despite the fact that the presence of fiber in compound feed for poultry is inevitable, the opinion of experts on its benefits differs.On the one hand, leading breeding companies and scientists consider fiber to be a necessary component for the development of the gizzard in order to stimulate the consumption of compound feed. On the other hand, poultry nutritionists try not to overload diets with fiber, especially if they consist of components that are difficult to hydrolyze, as this reduces the energy value of the diet. In addition, wastes from flour and fat-and-oil industries are often associated with such disadvantages as increased bacterial contamination or mycotoxin contamination. There is another controversial point that different sources of fiber have different effects on the digestive system, which is associated with the presence of anti-nutritional factors in the feed that affect its solubility. The review of publications provides information on the role of insoluble fiber in the body of poultry and its traditional and alternative sources.

Dietary polyphenols have been shown to scavenge free radicals, modulating cellular redox transcription factors in different in vitro and ex vivo models. Dietary intervention studies have shown that consumption of plant foods modulates plasma Non-Enzymatic Antioxidant Capacity (NEAC), a biomarker of the endogenous antioxidant network, in human subjects. However, the identification of the molecules responsible for this effect are yet to be obtained and evidences of an antioxidant in vivo action of polyphenols are conflicting. There is a clear discrepancy between polyphenols (PP) concentration in body fluids and the extent of increase of plasma NEAC. The low degree of absorption and the extensive metabolism of PP within the body have raised questions about their contribution to the endogenous antioxidant network. This work will discuss the role of polyphenols from galenic preparation, food extracts, and selected dietary sources as modulators of plasma NEAC in humans.

AbstractThis paper introduces some levels at which the computer has been incorporated in the research into the basis of electrocardiography. The emphasis lies on the modeling of the heart as an electrical current generator and of the properties of the body as a volume conductor, both playing a major role in the shaping of the electrocardiographic waveforms recorded at the body surface. It is claimed that the Forward-Problem of electrocardiography is no longer a problem. Several source models of cardiac electrical activity are considered, one of which can be directly interpreted in terms of the underlying electrophysiology (the depolarization sequence of the ventricles). The importance of using tailored rather than textbook geometry in inverse procedures is stressed.
