With increasing population and demand for infrastructural development in many developing countries, the demand for concrete has been on the increase and does not show any sign of slowing down in the nearest future. Existing concrete structures are also deteriorating and require repair or replacement. In this study, multivariate methods of factor analysis (FA) and cluster analysis (CA), were applied to analyze the liquefied samples datasets for clean and contaminated (sewage) water obtained in Ado- Odo Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. FA clearly identified two groups of liquefied samples and indicated that the bacterial parameters are higher in fermented locust beans water which can be likened to presence of bacillus subtilis food type. Hierarchical cluster grouped 40 samples into two which are high and low levels of bacteria contents respectively. Descriptive statistics showed all parameters significantly (conductivity, TDS, BOD, COD, carbondioxide, Calcium, Chlorine, pH, Temperature, salinity) in Cluster A greater than in cluster B. The main self- healing parameter for crack sealing up, because when bacteria commence feeding on calcium lactate once activated, oxygen consumed as the bacteria feeds and insoluble limestone formed by conversion of the soluble calcium lactate is greater for contaminated water against portable water values. This study demonstrates the usefulness of multivariate statistical techniques for evaluation of presence of bacteria in liquefied samples before used as self-healing. Keywords— Carbondioxide, clean, self-healing concrete, water.

AbstractThis study is a contribution to the knowledge of hydrochemical properties of the groundwater in Fesdis Plain, Algeria, using multivariate statistical techniques including principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis. 28 samples were taken during February and July 2015 (14 samples for each month). The principal component analysis (PCA) applied to the data sets has resulted in four significant factors which explain 75.19%, of the total variance. PCA method has enabled to highlight two big phenomena in acquisition of the mineralization of waters. The main phenomenon of production of ions in water is the contact water-rock. The second phenomenon reflects the signatures of the anthropogenic activities. The hierarchical cluster analysis (CA) in R mode grouped the 10 variables into four clusters and in Q mode, 14 sampling points are grouped into three clusters of similar water quality characteristics.

This study examines the impact of bacterial concrete on strength and self-healing. Bacterial concrete has better compressive strength, permeability, corrosion resistance, chemical precursors, alkalinity resistance, and mechanical stress. Bacillus subtilis calcium lactate and spore powder effects are explored in this study, and the influence of this bacterial form on strength and self-healing capacity to crack repair. The Bacillus subtilis concentration 105 cells/mL is used in concrete with calcium lactate 0.3% of cement. In another trial, calcium lactates 0.3% and spore powder 0.5% of cement with Bacillus subtilis concentration of 105 cells/mL and lightweight expandable clay aggregate (LECA) is 30% replaced to the coarse aggregate used in concrete respectively. The conventional concrete and bacterial concrete cubes were molded with dimensions of 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm, cylinders with dimensions of 100 mm x 200 mm, and a beam with dimensions of 100 mm x 100 mm x 500 mm. These specimens were evaluated after 7 and 28 days of cure. The compressive, split tensile, and flexural strength of bacterial concrete was raised by 23%, 8%, and 7%, respectively when compared to conventional concrete. Thus, the experimental findings reveal that Bacillus subtilis at 105 cells/ml cells with 0.3% calcium lactate has a substantial impact on the strength and self-healing of bacterial concrete.

Several theories have emerged to study types of eating behavior leading to obesity, but most of the applied models are mainly related to food choice decisions and food consumer behavior. The purpose of this paper was to examine the eating attitudes of Hungarian consumers by applying the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-R21). The national representative questionnaire involved 1000 individuals in Hungary in 2019. Several multivariate statistical techniques were applied for the data analysis: exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, multivariate data reduction techniques, and cluster analysis. This study successfully managed to distinguish the following factors: emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, and cognitive restraint. By using the factors, five clusters were identified: Uncontrolled Emotional Eaters; Overweight, Uncontrolled Eaters; Controlled, Conscious Eaters; the Uninterested; and the Rejecters; all of these could be addressed by public health policy with individually tailored messages. The empirical results led to rejection of the original Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ-R21), while the TFEQ-R16 model could be validated on a representative sample of adults, for the first time in Hungary.

Millefolii herba is one of the oldest and most important drugs in Lithuania, used both in folk and official medicine. The raw material is usually gathered from spontaneous populations. It would be reasonable to develop methods to identify the populations which produce high plant biomass and accumulate high levels of proazulenes. The quantitative variation of proazulenes and their relationships with phytosociological dependence and morphological characters of Achillea millefolium from wild populations has been examined. The vegetation records were made at 140 growing sites of A. millefolium. The species was found in 29 types of community representing different growing habitats. The resources of milfoils prevailed in dry grasslands of Arrhenatheretalia communities and ruderal habitats of Dauco-Meliliotion. The data on productivity and morphological characters were subjected to multivariate statistical analysis. A hierarchical cluster analysis indicated that higher productivity of A. millefolium populations was associated with their dependence on ruderal and segetal communities. The testing of A. millefolium plants revealed high variation for proazulenes in different communities. The proazulene-containing plants have been identified in 38% of all analysed cases. In the highest segetal and wasteland communities of Agropyretalia repentis, Sisybietalia, Digitario-Setarion, Aperion spicae-venti, Senecion fluviatilis only proazulene-free plants were found. Results of the ANOVA showed the proazulene-containing and proazulene-free plants significantly differed (P<0.05) for width of leaves and number of nodes. The presence of nodes in high number and narrow leaves in high proazulene-containing plants distinctly marked them from the proazulene-free plants. The study raised the possibility that selection based on the two morphological marker traits (node number and leaf width) and proazulene distribution in the populations would be effective for rapid identification of highly productive population(s) of pharmaceutical importance.

Malignant melanoma (MM) is the most severe tumor affecting the skin and accounts for three quarters of all skin cancer deaths. Raman spectroscopy is a promising nondestructive tool that has been increasingly used for characterization of the molecular features of cancerous tissues. Different multivariate statistical analysis techniques are used in order to extract relevant information that can be considered as functional spectroscopic descriptors of a particular pathology. Paraffin embedding (waxing) is a highly efficient process used to conserve biopsies in tumor banks for several years. However, the use of non-dewaxed formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues for Raman spectroscopic investigations remains very restricted, limiting the development of the technique as a routine analytical tool for biomedical purposes. This is due to the highly intense signal of paraffin, which masks important vibrations of the biological tissues. In addition to being time consuming and chemical intensive, chemical dewaxing methods are not efficient and they leave traces of the paraffin in tissues, which affects the Raman signal. In the present study, we use independent component analysis (ICA) on Raman spectral images collected on melanoma and nevus samples. The sources obtained from these images are then used to eliminate, using non-negativity constrained least squares (NCLS), the paraffin contribution from each individual spectrum of the spectral images of nevi and melanomas. Corrected spectra of both types of lesion are then compared and classified into dendrograms using hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA).

Sediments play an important role in the quality of aquatic ecosystems in the Dam Lake where they can either be a sink or a source of contaminants, depending on the management. This purpose of this study is to identify the sediment quality in order to find out the causes for the malodor and the eutrophication that is causing a bad scenario. Solutions for improving the dam are proposed. Multivariate statistical techniques, such as a principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA), were applied to the data regarding sediment quality in relation to anthropogenic impact in Suat Ugurlu Dam Lake. This data was generated during 2014-2015, with monitoring at four sites for 11 parameters. A PCA and CA were used in the study of the samples. The total variance of 84.1%, 74.3%, 87.4% and 91.5% suggest 4, 3, 3 and 4 principle components (PCs) in the four locations: LC1, LC2, LC3 and LC4, respectively. Also, a CA was applied to both the variables and the observations. Some variables and observations showed a high similarity based on the results of variables in the CA. Also, the similarity ratio of temperature-mercury (Hg) and oxidation reduction potential (ORP) was high and generally, the cluster number of variables was 5, according to the selected similarity level.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify types of professionalization in Swiss national sport federations (NSFs) and analyze organizational characteristics associated with specific types of professionalization. Such types reveal common patterns among the increasingly complex organizational designs of NSFs and thus contribute to the understanding of professionalization in NSFs. Design/methodology/approach An online survey of all Swiss NSFs was conducted to identify types of professionalization in these organizations using hierarchical cluster analysis, based on a multi-dimensional framework of professionalization. Findings The analysis revealed four types of professionalization: formalized NSFs managed by paid staff, NSFs managed by volunteers and a few paid staff off the field, NSFs with differing formalization and paid staff on the field, and moderately formalized NSFs managed by volunteers. The types differ in terms of the NSFs’ organizational characteristics, in particular, size, financial resources, Olympic status, and performance. Originality/value Applying factor and cluster analysis is a new approach to analyzing professionalization in NSFs that makes uncovering distinctive organizational patterns among a large number of NSFs possible. These results lay the foundation for understanding the professionalization of NSFs, counseling NSFs on their organizational development, and conducting future research on the design types of sport organizations.

Specific microbial agents such as bacteria are often used in concrete to improve its performance. Some microbes act as self-healing agents to close cracks in concrete, and to increase concrete strength. This paper presents a study to observe the effects of microbe addition to two types of concrete mixtures the fly ash-based, as geopolymer paste, and portland cement paste containing fly ash. Furthermore, the investigation was conducted to compare the properties of each paste, such as its compressive strengths, specific gravities, porosity, microstructures, and XRay diffracting properties. The results indicate that microbial activities positively affected the properties of both, portland cement paste and geopolymer paste. The result reported here strongly suggests that fly ash can be used to produce a high quality, but environmental friendly construction material when it’s mixed together with useful microbes.

Co-crystals have garnered increasing interest in recent years as a beneficial approach to improving the solubility of poorly water soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). However, their preparation is a challenge that requires a simple approach towards co-crystal detection. The objective of this work was, therefore, to verify to what extent a multivariate statistical approach such as principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) can be used as a supporting tool for detecting co-crystal formation. As model samples, physical mixtures and co-crystals of indomethacin with saccharin and furosemide with p-aminobenzoic acid were prepared at API/co-former molar ratios 1:1, 2:1 and 1:2. Data acquired from DSC curves and FTIR and Raman spectroscopies were used for CA and PCA calculations. The results obtained revealed that the application of physical mixtures as reference samples allows a deeper insight into co-crystallization than is possible with the use of API and co-former or API and co-former with physical mixtures. Thus, multivariate matrix for PCA and CA calculations consisting of physical mixtures and potential co-crystals could be considered as the most profitable and reliable way to reflect changes in samples after co-crystallization. Moreover, complementary interpretation of results obtained using DSC, FTIR and Raman techniques is most beneficial.
