This study is conducted to find out the factors which are associated with students’ academic achievements in the subject of mathematics in different higher education institutions which are based in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The data is collected through a structured questionnaire from Bachelor of Studies (BS) 5th semester program of all the academic departments of well-known government educational institutions of Peshawar. All academic departments, except the departments of mathematics were selected, especially where the subject of mathematics is taught as compulsory or general course to the undergraduate students.  The collected data is analysed on SPSS-20. For the analysis purpose mean, standard deviation, T-test, chi-square, and odd ratios are used. The results show that earlier performance such as primary level, attitude toward mathematics, difficulty of mathematics, study hours and self-confidence in mathematics learning are associated with students’ academic achievement in mathematics.

Throughout the years educators, educational experts, teachers and tutors have been in the constant search of effective ways of teaching and assessing writing. The views about assessment of writing have encountered changes over the years. Therefore, feedback has become one of the fundamental aspects of teaching and learning writing. Peer feedback is one of the special ways to share the knowledge about writing and at the same time to contribute to creating the learner-oriented classroom environment within which students become active participants of their own path of learning writing. The primary objective of the present study is to investigate Georgian higher educational institutions’ (HEIs’) undergraduate EFL students’ perception of peer feedback and its role in the process of developing their writing skills. The findings of the present study show that peer feedback is appealing for the learners, since they believe it develops their critical-thinking and self-reviewing skills and gives them the sense of active participation. However, the present research has also revealed that the elements of friendship-related bias need special attention and should be the subject of further research in that field.

Objective: To identify and discuss the frequency of depressive symptoms and their associated factors in university students. Materials and method: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study with a quantitative approach, conducted in a Higher Education Institution. The study was developed with a convenience sample consisting of 571 undergraduate students from different areas. A questionnaire was used to collect sociodemographic/academic data, as well as depressive symptoms and their associations, life habits, emotional aspects, and possible eating disorders. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and Pearson’s chi-square test were used for associations, with a significance level of 5 % (p-value ≤ 0.05). Results: The university students presented depressive symptoms such as sleep disorders (61.1 %) and reduced self-confidence (50.9 %). There was an association of depressive symptoms with the course, satisfaction with academic performance, obesity, consumption of sugars and sweets, and practice and frequency of physical activity. Conclusions: It is expected that the results of this research contribute to the population’s critical and reflective thinking to expand visibility and scientific studies referring to the theme, as well as to increase resources for the management of mental health and reduce the stigmas generated.

Background: Cheiloscopy is a forensic investigation technique that deals with the identification based on lip traces. Based upon the research, it was established that the arrangement of lines on the red part of human lips is unique for each human being. Objectives: To analyze and compare quadrant wise and sex wise predilection of lip print pattern. Methods: A total of 200 (18-25 years) Nepalese undergraduate students of BPKIHS were selected. Thin layer of lip-stick was applied on the lips of these sub-jects. The hinged por-tion of a folded paper was inserted between the lips and the sub-jects were asked to press their lips onto it. Only middle 10 mm of both upper and lower lips were taken as study area. The lip prints, thus obtained were stud-ied on the basis of Tsuchihashi’s classification. Chi square test was used to analyze and compare the lip print patterns in all the quadrants of males and females, with the level of significance p<0.05. Results: Type I pattern was predominant in all the four quadrants among males (62%, 56%, 54%, 57% in first, second, third and fourth quadrants respectively). In female also type I was predominant in 2nd, 3rd and 4th quadrant (40%, 45%, 51% respectively) whereas in 1st( right upper) quadrant type II pattern was predominant (37%). Conclusion: Lip print pattern can be used as an additional tool for personal identification and sex determination. Further work on the subject can help to make cheiloscopy a practical reality in the forensic identification process. The aim of this study is to evaluate the self-confidence of undergraduate students and thus to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of oral surgery education from the students' perspectives. A survey was conducted by preparing a questionnaire to assess the the self-confidence of students in performing oral surgery. Survey questions have been imported to Google Forms®. It was then electronically delivered to the students through the Turkish Dental Association. Regarding the data, besides the frequency and percentage distributions, the relationship between the variables was analyzed using the Chi-Square test. A total of 615 students, including 386 female and 229 male students, participated in this study. Of the students, 62.4% were 5th year and 37.56% were 4th year students. According to the survey, it was observed that male students and 5th year students were in general more confident in themselves. Students had low self-confidence in differentiating between odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain and recognizing malignant lesions or lesions with high malignant potential. In the oral surgery curriculum, subjects in which the students have issues should be identified and more emphasis should be placed on them. Oral pathology as well as head and neck anatomy courses should be emphasized further, priority should be given to case-based courses, and reminder presentations should be made at certain intervals. In addition, considering that practice is important for gaining self-confidence, students must practice more under the supervision of instructors in the areas in which they feel inadequate.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kepercayaan diri siswa kelas XI SMA dalam pembelajaran matematika melalui metode penemuan terbimbing. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas secara kolaboratif antara peneliti dan guru matematika. Model penelitian ini menggunakan model Kemmis & Mc. Taggart. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMA. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah lembar observasi, angket, dan tes tertulis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan metode penemuan terbimbing berbantuan LKS yang digunakan sebagai media untuk melakukan kegiatan penemuan, kepercayaan diri siswa dapat meningkat. Peningkatan kepercayaan diri siswa kelas XI SMA dengan metode penemuan terbimbing dapat dilihat dari peningkatan persentase siswa yang memiliki kepercayaan diri kategori sangat tinggi dan peningkatan rata-rata kepercayaan diri siswa secara klasikal setelah melakukan dua siklus tindakan. Abstract:  This research aims to increase student’s self confidence in XI SMA in mathematics learning by using guided discovery learning. This research is an action research. It is a colaboated research by researcher and teacher. This reasearch used Kemmis & Mc. Taggart model. The subject of this research is students of XI SMA. The instruments that used in this research are observation sheets, questionnaire, and written test. Form this research, it is shown that guided discovery learning that used worksheet to discover concept, can be used to increase student’s self confidence. It can be seen from the increase in the percentage of student’s who have very high self confidence categories and the increase of student’s self confidence mean after two cycle

This study aims at investigating the association between metacognitive awareness and student’s academic achievements. The study undertakes the objectives and hypotheses on Low, Average and High achievers in addition to assess the effects of metacognition awareness level on student’s academic achievement. Through multistage stratified random sampling, data was collected from 160 undergraduate students, studying in Department of Mathematics & Department of English in Abdul Wali Khan University, Khyber Pukhtunkwa. Data was collected through Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) by Schraw and Dennison (1994), CGPA of the students, and self-developed objective type subject test. Descriptive Statistics & statistical tests (Chi-square & Linear Regression) were applied for data analyses. The results showed that metacognitive awareness had significant effect on student’s academic achievement (CGPA) in Department of English whereas it was found to be insignificant in Department of Mathematics. The study recommends an introductory course on Educational Psychology, which cater the metacognitive needs of the students. Moreover, research studies are recommended in the subjects except English and Mathematics. The cultural difference of the students, teachers, and locality of the universities might be taken care of future perspective of researchers.

AbstractUndergraduate students whose programme includes a full academic year on an Erasmus study visit require a range of support before, during and after their year abroad. This study focuses on the support provided by the home academic coordinator during the students’ period of study abroad. The research is based on a case-study which explores how the maintenance of an online journal can enhance students’ new learning experiences. The outcomes of this investigation are of interest at a pragmatic level to Erasmus coordinators and educational institutions whose programmes include a study visit or an internship. At a theoretical level, this study brings together a number of areas that have each been the subject of prior research but that so far have not been pulled together, particularly in the context of a study visit to a foreign country. The areas referred to include the benefits and challenges of rolling out educational online journals; the use of blogging in language learning; the design of rubrics as a form of feedback and the activity of reflective writing in an online environment. The findings and the discussion show how the online journal has added a positive dimension to the year abroad, particularly in the areas of communication and feedback, peer support, language learning and technology.

AIM: The purpose of this study was to evaluate daycare educators’ knowledge on oral health, malocclusions and non-nutritive habits and how to address these issues. Educators were also investigated on whether or not they had received previous instructions on oral health and the quality of such information. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A survey was conducted using a questionnaire, given to daycare educators of Araraquara (SP, Brazil). The structured questionnaire had close-ended questions, and was divided into three sections according to subject matter. RESULTS: Based on the analyzed questionnaires (n=143), most educators showed reasonable knowledge on oral health (72%) and non-nutritive habits (52.4%), although 89.5% of them had received previous instructions on the subject. Chi-square test showed no association between the level of knowledge among educators and the variables: age, type of school and self assessment of knowledge. CONCLUSIONS: These professionals need additional information about oral health in order to address these topics through educational practices, since educators are the best suited professionals to teach and motivate children.

Introduction: In near peer assisted learning (NPAL)tutor is of the same level of education as with one to two years senior but within the same broad grade. Literature suggests that it fosters qualities like leadership, self-confidence and mentoring in tutors with simultaneous provision of a cordial learning environment to tutees. With this study we introduced NPAL in our newly established institute and assessed its feasibility, student’s perception, future applicability.Method: After having ethical clearance from institution, the students and faculty of Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology were sensitized. The interns posted in labor room were designated as tutors and maternity students were included as tutees. The surgical hand scrub was the topic of teaching. The faculty taught interns and assessed, then interns taught maternity students and they were assessed by faculty members. The interns were again assessed by faculty. Afterwards both these interns and maternity students supposed to work together in labor room, the feedback was taken from all with a structured questionnaire using Likert scale.Result: The results were encouraging from all the corners, the tutors, tutees and faculty agreed that NPAL is a better method of teaching strongly enhancing the learning of tutors and their communication skills and develops positive attitude towards teaching as a part of their profession. The tutees found a cordial learning environment with a cognitive congruence with their tutors and felt very comfortable while working with them. Faculty also showed a positive attitude towards NPAL.Conclusion: NPAL is a good adjunct to standard teaching but could not substitute standard teaching.

This research is motivated by the lack of interest of teachers in the use of props in the process of learning mathematics in elementary school. In accordance with the demands of the curriculum in 2013 and supported by the developed learning theory, learning mathematics is abstract object of study, students need an intermediary that props math-ematics, so that students can more easily understand the concepts that will be pre-sented, and in the end it can deliver students to solve mathematical problems, not only that proposed by the teacher but also the problems in life. The purpose of this study was to determine the interest of prospective elementary teachers on the use of props mathematics after getting lectures media and elementary mathematics learning model. By knowing the interest of prospective elementary teachers will be developed further realization of the state of the subject being studied. The method used is descriptive research, then the instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. The results of this study stated that the interest of prospective elementary teachers on the use of props after attending lectures media and elementary mathematics learning model is high over-all with a percentage of 76.70%.Keywords : Interest, Props Mathematics
