Academic papers on the COVID-19 pandemic and tourism adopt the perspective of strengthening tourism resilience or recognize the ongoing crisis as an opportunity for reflection and the need to redefine tourism development strategies. This article examines these issues using the example of Kraków, a tourism city that, on the eve of the pandemic outbreak, was experiencing symptoms of overtourism. Using a case study approach, the authors illustrate the strategies applied at the city level, as well as the range of measures and actions used to support the tourism industry during the full pandemic year. The Kraków case shows that the pandemic time can be used to reorganize relations between local tourism stakeholders and to create a new formula for a tourism city in the so-called ‘new normal’. In addition, the exploratory case study allows for the formulation of research problems for further work on tourism cities responses to COVID-19. This can focus on a revision of the tourist offer and profile; the role of culture and the accompanying technology-facilitated innovations; the continuation of ‘being-a-tourist-in-your-own-city’, as promoted in the pandemic; tourists’ reactions to introduced changes; and shaping (new) relations between tourism stakeholders in the (post)pandemic city.

Da'wah about waste reduction is very important considering the problem of waste is still a common problem whose solution has not been resolved. However, not many preachers carry out preaching on the theme of the environment, especially waste reduction. Hanan Attaki as a young preacher who has many followers innovates da'wah by campaigning for a less waste program as a material for da'wah. This paper is a case study on the da'wah carried out by Hanan Attaki in the Bandung youth community. This paper discusses two things, first about the da'wah innovation conveyed by Hanan Attaki to youths to overcome the waste problem in the city of Bandung, second about the process of the less waste program capable of maximizing the role of youth. The author uses Al-Bayanuni's opinion in the book Al-Madkhal Ila Ilmi Dakwah in analyzing. The results of the study show that Hanan Attaki's innovation in preaching by creating a less waste program is the first step in the application of the material presented to the youth of Bandung. Less waste is used as a new lifestyle for Bandung youth. The youth are taught how to minimize and manage organic and inorganic waste. Thus, the less waste program can make Bandung youths involved in taking part in environmental issues as well as addressing them directly, as well as being able to change the style of youth who like to hang out in cafes to hang out in mosques.

This research examines management processes that lead to the omission of $2.3 million in betterment fees in the City of Cape Coral (City). It concentrates on management processes, data problems, and personnel issues that contributed and resulted in developing properties completing the Planned Development Process (PDP) without checks from critical areas in the financial system. This research analyzes how betterment fees, often called Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC), were designed, collected, and managed. This case study also outlines key measurement processes neglected by the City and demonstrates how management corrected the issue of lost revenue through errant billing by analysis and reengineering of the system. Despite hours of public debate and input from concerned citizens, this issue has continued for approximately 10 years. A 2004 betterment list is substantially increased and contains some properties listed on the original 1996 list. The issue is still as controversial as ever and efforts to address it seem to be ignored or minimized.

This study aims to explain how the efforts made by the Banda Aceh City Government in the era of Illiza Sa'aduddin Djamal in realizing a civilized city. To answer this, the author uses the concept of power resources from Charles F. Andrain to see how much power resources are owned and how these power resources are utilized. The research method is qualitative with a case study approach. The data collection technique was carried out by the interview. Actors who are directly involved in the implementation of Islamic law in the city of Banda Aceh, especially from government elements, are the main data sources in this study. The results showed that the power resources owned by the Banda Aceh City Government were quite large. However, reflections on the efforts that have been made by the Banda Aceh City Government in realizing a civilian city show that the resources they have are still not maximized, so this has an impact on the final results that can be achieved. Even though the effort to realize a civil city has not yet been fully realized, it can basically be interpreted that the City Government is building a stronger resource structure, more adequate support through community participation to take part in increasing the implementation of Islamic law in order to make Banda Aceh a civil city.

AbstractThe Covid-19 pandemic is a global shock that is significantly affecting coastal social-ecological systems (SES) in different parts of the world. Its widespread impacts have unravelled vulnerabilities in many aspects of society, including food systems. Our study investigated the impacts of a lockdown associated with the pandemic in the province of Bulacan, in the region of Central Luzon, Philippines, where aquaculture and capture fisheries are important and interconnected sectors. In particular, we focused on impacts related to production and market. We considered people’s coping strategies and the factors that enabled such strategies. Our investigation adopted a case study approach and drew on qualitative data analysed through thematic analysis. The findings revealed differentiated mechanisms through which aquaculture and capture fisheries production were impacted. Both were strongly affected by market disruptions but through slightly different ways. In effect, the lockdown provided the impetus for the uptake and spreading of practices that were previously peripheral, particularly in relation to market exchanges. The study also identified a variety of coping strategies, as well as the importance of social support in the form of food aid, financial assistance, and institutional livelihood assistance. Finally, it discusses the importance of diversity in food sources, the role of local food systems, and governance implications for foregrounding social-ecological resilience in short-term response and long-term recovery.
