Purpose: A free and transparent electioneering process ideally shuns violence, 21 corruption and other vices encouraging the flourishing of economic activities including tourism leading to a vibrant tourism sector. The general objective of the study was to examine effect of post-election violence on the performance of tourism industry in Kenya. Methodology: The paper used a desk study review methodology where relevant empirical literature was reviewed to identify main themes and to extract knowledge gaps. Findings: The study concluded that election violence affects movement of people within the country, people movements are restricted during the campaigns, local and international members of the fourth estate give prominence to negative news during this period scaring both domestic and international tourist’s arrivals and that people prefer staying in familiar places and fear travelling when there is election violence. Recommendations: The study recommends that the Kenyan security infrastructure should regain civilian confidence: by cultivating citizen-police relations to tame the prevailing account of fear and apathy. This can be worked on and transformed into more justifiable national confidence on the security agencies and a platform created for mutual engagement. This relationship is crucial in helping the security agencies in controlling crime and being able to mitigate the security challenges arising during elections. This way the tourism industry will benefit in terms of enjoying a peaceful environment before, during and after general elections in the country. Once this relationship is built on trust, the police will be able to manage effectively all issues

Pertumbuhan Kunjungan wisatawan ke Kabupaten Nias beberapa tahun belakangan menggambarkan peningkatan aktifitas sosialekonomi masyarakat Nias di bidang pariwisata. Peningkatan aktifitas sosial-ekonomi ini menjadi salah satu faktor pemicu mobilitas sosial penduduk dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat Nias. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan jawaban apakah mobilitas penduduk Nias melalui aktifitas yang berbasis industri pariwisata dapat meningkatkan status sosialekonomi masyarakatnya; serta bagaimana mobilitas sosial penduduk Nias dalam meningkatkan status sosial-ekonomi yang berbasis pariwisata. Landasan teori dalam penelitian ini adalah mobilitas sosial yang diimplementasikan oleh sebagian anggota masyarakat yang telah memiliki tingkat daya terima (aksesibilitas) yang tinggi. Bekerjanya mobilitas sosial dan aksesibilitas tersebut dapat meningkatkan status sosial ekonomi para anggota masyarakat melalui aktifitas sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian gabungan yang merupakan kombinasi metode penelitian kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Penarikan sampel dilakukan secara acak (sampling of random) dengan analisis data menggunakan teknik distribusi frekuensi. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan mobilitas sosial penduduk dengan beberapa jenis pergerakan sosial, diantara pergerakan tersebut yaitu mobilitas sosial horizontal, mobilitas sosial vertical naik, mobilitas vertikal turun, mobilitas sosial antar generasi, dan mobilitas sosial intra generasi yang berdampak pada tingkat aksesibilitas para anggota masyarakatnya.   The growth of tourist visits to Nias Regency in recent years illustrates the increase in the socio-economic activities of Nias people in the tourism sector. This increase in socio-economic activities is one of the factors that trigger the social mobility of the population in improving the welfare of Nias people. This study aimed to find answers to whether the mobility of Nias residents through activities based on the tourism industry could improve the socio-economic status of their communities; and how the social mobility of Nias residents improved tourism-based socio-economic status. The basis of the theory in this study was the social mobility implemented by some members of the community who had high levels of acceptance (accessibility). The operation of social mobility and accessibility can improve the socio-economic status of community members through social activities. This research used a combined research method which was a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Sampling was done randomly (sampling of random) by analyzing the data using frequency distribution techniques. The results explained the social mobility of the population with several types of social movements, which were horizontal social mobility, vertical upward social mobility, downward vertical mobility, intergenerational social mobility, and intra-generation social mobility having impacts on the accessibility of members of the community.

As one of the most interactive economic activities, tourism has improved significantly since the Internet allowed customers (travelers) to look for and create their trips without the need to go to a travel agency. Through the development of Internet marketing, tourists are able to receive information in real-time and view them on the screens of their devices (computers, laptops, mobile phones or tablets), and consequently they can create their own content and share it with others. Due to this development, we are witnessing a new phenomenon, so-called app capitalism, in which companies like Uber and Airbnb make money on services and goods they do not own and finding new business models in the tourism sector which enable customer-to-customer models. To be able to respond to these changes, the tourism industry needs to bring together knowledge, money, and technology for the purpose of creating new business models. The development of technology in all social spheres, including tourism, has provided a strong tool for consumers in terms of both acquiring and disclosing information to others. One of the rapidly growing technologies which is also one of the cutting-edge technologies entering tourism is blockchain. Blockchain technology captured worldwide attention in 2017 and its implementation has been revolutionizing various industries (e.g., retail, healthcare, tourism). The aim of this paper is to analyze the potential of the tourism industry in terms of blockchain implementation. Blockchain technology provides significant benefits to the tourism industry since its implementation can help increase competitive advantage, improve customer satisfaction and enhance performance. In this paper, the authors present the current situation in the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Macedonia regarding the use of blockchain technology in the tourism industry. The main findings of this paper comprise the detection of key areas regarding why blockchain technology is not implemented in the tourist industry, and what processes should be handled. By presenting a case study of the implementation of blockchain technology in tourism, the authors analyze the potential of using blockchain technology in the tourism industry and discuss topics for further research.

Natural disasters have a catastrophic impact on the lives of humans, interrupting their social and economic activities to a great extent. Communities that are located in high-risk regions encounter greater challenges in developing a resilient and sustainable tourism economy (Tsai et. al., 2016). The past examples of tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions all over the world have shown that there are two sides of the issue in terms of tourism sector. First, the devastating effects of the natural disaster slow down the tourism sector like all other activities in a particular destination. On the other hand, the natural disasters are capable of fostering the strong feelings of solidarity (Goodwin, 2005), luring the global interest to the region for further economic opportunities, including tourism. The aim of this manuscript is to investigate the influence of drawbacks and possible positive impacts of natural disasters on tourism activities and to model them in a proper manner. The paper will start with a body of literature on the impact of natural disasters on the tourism industry based on the previous studies. The study will be dealing with the question how natural disasters  have an impact on tourism through economic aspects, destination image and the degree of community activity. The methodology will be literature review and critical evaluation of the findings. Finally, a model will be suggested in order to provide a quantitative analysis for the natural disasters, including the possible related economic and social variables.

Tourism sector, a major backbone in revenue generation in Nepal having an immense potentiality is hardly hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has suspended Visit Nepal Year 2020, with a theme, an experience of a life-time. This remarkable campaign is also a national development strategy in the tourism history of Nepal which aimed at attracting around 2 million foreigners from all over the world. This article is designed to explore about COVID-19 Pandemic lockdown impacts on tourism industries and Visit Nepal year 2020 Campaign. For these, secondary literature available in Google Scholar, Research Gate and, recently published newspapers were accessed. The result shows that the unprecedented and uncertain lockdown stuck millions of people in their home, lower the economic activities of different sectors of the tourism industry including hotels, homestays, travel and tours, impact on remittance, a collapse of small industries and suspension of mega projects and many more. In addition to this, this paper aims at showcasing a strong correlation between lockdown and tourism industry with perspective from Nepal Tourism Board, Academic practitioner, Tourism Entrepreneurs, Nepal government, ministries, Economist and Analyst to revise the protocols and safety standard of the tourism industry to massively flourish and revive amidst the pandemic and even in the post-pandemic environment.

Bulgaria has huge potential to develop the tourism sector, which already accounts for about 13% of our gross domestic product and has been raised by the government in the national priority as a structure-defining one. In Bulgaria, 335 thousand are employed in tourism and related economic activities, which is almost 11% of all employed in 2017 - more than the international indicators. Over the last three years, the trend of record growth in the whole history of Bulgarian tourism has been steadily established. According to NSI data for the first seven months of 2018, nearly 5.3 million foreign tourists choose Bulgaria as a tourist destination, or almost 7% more than in the same period of 2017. Digital transformation is the process of using digital technologies to create new — or modify existing — business processes, culture, and customer experiences to meet changing business and market requirements. This reimagining of business in the digital age is digital transformation . It transcends traditional roles like sales, marketing, and customer service. Instead, digital transformation begins and ends with how you think about, and engage with, customers. As we move from paper to spreadsheets to smart applications for managing our business, we have the chance to reimagine how we do business — how we engage our customers — with digital technology on our side.The prevailing view is that successful digital transformation depends on changes in strategy, leadership and organizational culture, as well as on the peculiarities of the production and services that companies offer.The purpose of the report is to clarify the nature of digital transformation and the prerequisites for its implementation in the tourism industry, to study the national policy regarding digital transformation in tourism, to analyze the practical steps in this direction and to outline trends in the development of the tourism industry. To achieve this, the authors review publications of researchers and consulting companies on the nature of digital transformation, as well as justify its need for implementation in the travel industry. A number of documents, strategies, reports of the Ministry of Tourism have been studied, as well as materials from conferences, seminars, round tables, discussions and other forums on the transformation of the tourism industry.In the report, we tried to clarify the key concept of digital transformation, to identify the prerequisites for it in the tourism sector, as well as, based on our own research, to discover some real first steps at national level. The change begins in this period, it takes organizational culture, competence, strategy, leadership, partnership and hard work at all levels to achieve a real digital transformation of the tourism industry.

This research examined the problems of the tourism sector of the economy, that was described from the perspective of potential informatization. The features of the tourism industry functioning were reflected, some proposals were put forward regarding the design and development of an automated management system, and the geographical affiliation of the research areas were indicated. The tourist and recreational complex was proposed to understand as a separate component of the tourism industry, and was accordingly accepted as the object for the projected automated system. The authors had refined the formulation of the term "tourist and recreational complex" as a complex socio-economic system based on the problems and possibilities of it’s informatization. Sufficient attention was paid to the identification of the characteristic features of the tourist and recreational complex, to the designation and addition of its functions, to the possibilities and difficulties of formalization. Some features and problems of the designing an automated control system were described in this research, there were also suggests about its conceptual structure, and outlines the for further research. Special attention was paid to the developing of the automated system for managing the tourist and recreational complex, based on the requests, needs and capabilities of its three main groups of users: regional (district) management, business and guests (tourists, recreants).

Tourism sector has a significant role in the economic development of our country. Tourism sector has contributed 6.88 percent to the GDP and has 12.36 percent share in employment (direct and indirect) in the year 2014. It has also a significant share in foreign exchange earnings. The benefit of tourism mostly goes to the local community (Sonya & Jacqueline, Mansour E. Zaei & Mahin E. Zaei, 2013). In this paper, an attempt has been made to assess how the tourism industry has created an opportunity for the economic, political, social and cultural development of the local community at Manali in Himachal Pradesh (India) and also tried to study the problems that are associated with the tourism in the region. The study found that the tourism industry has been extending its contribution for the development of local community at Manali. It has been providing employment, business and investment opportunities, revenue generation for the government, encouraging the community to promote and preserve its art, culture and heritage, raising the demand of agriculture products, provided opportunities for local people to run and work in the transport business and by promoting MSMEs in the region. Besides the opportunities, the tourism industry has also added many problems to the local community. Traffic congestion, increase in water and air pollution, solid waste generation, degradation of the cultural heritage, ecological imbalances, rise in cost of living, increase in crime, noise and environment pollution, migration of people to the region, negative impact on local culture, and extra pressure on civic services during the tourists season, are the problems associated with the tourism. The study suggest that effective management of natural resources, dissemination of environment protection information, involvement of local community in decision making, professionalization in the working of local administration, extending the support of government in sponsoring the events, infrastructure development, tracking records of migrants with the help of local community to curb the crime rate, promotion and preservation of art, culture and heritage, involvement of NGOs, compliance of the rules can make tourism more beneficial in the development of local community.
