Taking place in such a fierce competitive environment requires a more effective and efficient attitude through increasing the capability of the cooperative management staff. Coaching and mentoring can be the key to success for cooperative organizations in maintaining the competitiveness and management power of cooperatives. The research findings show that the problems in cooperative management and accounting have not been achieved as their best. Most of the accounting staff do not understand the accounting process and in the end the financial reports are not sufficient to meet the needs of cooperative users. High expectations are set for Business Intelligence (BI), yet it fails to consistently deliver accordingly: there are numerous reports of BI challenges and failures. Existing approaches to address BI challenges are largely found to be ineffective, highlighting the need for a new approach. This paper examines how BI is perceived or understood and establishes that, firstly, BI is inherently grounded in Goods-Dominant (G-D) logic and secondly, that this can be linked to the challenges that are experienced within BI. A recommendation is made for a shift to Service-Dominant (S-D) logic as a new avenue of exploration to assist in overcoming BI’s prevailing challenges. Identifying the inherent G-D logic in BI provides the first step necessary in making this shift. Research findings are based on an interpretive case study of a South African Banking institution as well as a literature review.

The existence of sharia cooperatives (kopsyah) in Indonesia is relatively new. There are two main pillars of sharia cooperative management, namely social functions (baitulmaal) and business functions (baitut tamwil). The problem that arises in kopsyah in Surabaya is that there is an imbalance in the management of profit-oriented business functions that tend to be dominant compared to their social functions. The factors that caused the weakness of the Baitulmmaal function in Surabaya, the first factor was dominated by management factors, the second factor was more influenced by manpower and environment, while the environmental factors were influenced by the variables the existing muzakki in the kopsyah environment and the unavailability of a juridical basis for kopsyah to manage ZIS funds. Mentoring that the author did on Kopsyah Benefits of Surabaya is conducting training and assistance in the collection and utilization of ZIS and endowments of money to the management staff of Baitulmaal.

Research findings documenting positive outcomes associated with implementing each area of action are described and relevant legal mandates and case law are discussed. Purpose In the UK, concern frequently has been voiced that young people lack appropriate employability skills. One way to address this is to provide work based placements. In general, previous research findings have indicated that young people find such placements useful because of help with career choice and relevant skills. However, most studies are retrospective and involve sixth form or degree students. The purpose of this paper is to extend previous research by collecting information before and after the placements. Design/methodology/approach This investigation involved questionnaires with nearly 300 14-15 year-old students who provided a pre- and post-placement self-reports about their employability skills and their work-experience hosts provided ratings of employability skills at the end of the placement. Findings There was a significant increase in student ratings of their employability skills from before to after the placement, and although the employers gave slightly lower ratings of some employability skills than the students, the two sets of ratings were reasonably close. In addition, the students had high expectations of the usefulness of the placements and these expectations were fulfilled as reported in the post-placement questionnaire. Originality/value These positive findings, extend the knowledge of the effects of work based placements, by focussing on the opinion of the young people themselves, using a pre- to post-placement design, by validating student self-reports with host employer ratings, and by focussing on a younger than usual age group.
