Discrete Mathematics is a highly complex university subject. His classes are taught in a traditional way, so in many cases they do not motivate students. This study develops dynamics of gamification to promote a better learning of Discrete Mathematics, in the same way, it seeks to influence the engagement of students in this university subject. 178 students participate in this quasi-experiment (90 in the control group and 88 in the experimental group). The pretest and posttest data of the academic performance and engagement of the experimental group and the control group display that, in terms of progress, the experimental group showed significant progress compared with the control group. The study is concluded by raising the possibility of applying other games and game dynamics that promote a greater variety of gamified activities. In this sense, it is proposed to investigate the effects of the use of games in mobile application format on both engagement and academic performance in Discrete Mathematics.

The present study with the aim to investigate the effect of training by using of electronic content and workshop method on math learning of high school students of eighteen region of Tehran has been done. The research method was applied and quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest design and control group. The study population included all girl students studying at second year of high school in public schools of eighteen region of Tehran in the 94-95 school year that by using of sampling method three classes were selected. The first experimental group with electronic content and the second experimental group by using of workshop method were trained that with the control group, who were trained in the traditional way, were compared. To determine the effect of work of education on math learning in the three groups, the analysis of covariance and ANOVA were used. The results showed that math scores in the two experimental groups were higher than the control group. Also, comparing the post test scores of math learning in the two experimental groups showed that the training by using of workshop method more than training with electronic content has effect on math learning.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of assertiveness techniquestraining to improve bullying victims’ self-esteem. This study was a quasi experiment withuntreated control group with pre-test and double post-test design. The data werecollected by using adaptation instrument of Peer Interactions in Primary School (PIPS)Questionnaire, assertiveness scale, and self-esteem scale. The subjects were 18 students in4 th -5 th grade who are indicated as bullying victims and have self-esteem scores categorizedin low to moderate levels (8 students in experimental group and 10 students in controlgroup). The result of the Mann Whitney U test showed that there was no difference inself-esteem scores between the experimental and control group during the pretest (p >0.05). After being treated, the differences in self-esteem scores were significant with Z = -3.113; p = 0.002 (p < 0,01) between the experimental group and control group, in which themean score of self-esteem in the experimental group was higher than the control group

This study aimed to investigate the effect of critical reading (CR) practices in science courses on academic achievement, science performance level, and problem-solving skills. The experimental method and factorial design were used. The study was conducted with 102 seventh-grade students from a public school in Turkey during the 2014–2015 academic year. Experimental and control groups were formed. CR practices were followed in the experimental group and teaching practices appropriate to the curriculum were used in the control group. Data were collected with the “Multiple-Choice Academic Achievement Test” to determine the students’ academic level in the “Human and Environment Unit: The Science Performance Level Test” to determine their science performance level and the “Logical Thinking Group Test” to determine the level of their problem-solving skills. The variables of academic achievement and science performance levels were labeled “Academic Performance.” Independent samples two-way ANOVA was applied to analyze the data using SPSS 18.0 software. The results revealed that the students in the experimental group, who were taught science using CR practices, were significantly more successful than the students in the control group, whose teaching was appropriate to the current curriculum in terms of academic achievement, science performance level, and problem-solving skills. It is of critical importance to use such innovative practices, which combine various disciplines, to allow students to excel at reading, which is a basic skill, at all educational levels in order to raise contemporary and social individuals.

To investigate the effectiveness of e-learning by using a particular mobile application, namely WhatsApp, an empirical study was conducted on sixty undergraduate English language majors at King Khalid University in Saudi Arabia. The objective of the study was to determine whether the levels of motivation, content knowledge and grades of the students (who took the course “Syntax”)-, developed after receiving additional support through WhatsApp apart from traditional classroom lectures. The results showed that the experimental group that got extra support from fellow students and the course teachers through WhatsApp outperformed the students of the control group who studied the course only through traditional method. Moreover, the gap of success rate between the experimental group and the control group is about eighty nine percent with zero failure in the experimental group. The study proved that WhatsApp can be effectively used for providing supplementary support to motivate students to study properly and to get higher grades.

This study conducted to determine the effectiveness of joyful scaffolds in teaching grade VIII Mathematics in the Department of Education of the Philippines. Two intact groups were used as the subjects of the study. The experimental and control group were exposed to joyful and traditional scaffolds in teaching respectively. This study includes the pre – post assessments, significant improvements, and significant mean gain differences of students exposed to traditional and joyful scaffolds in teaching Mathematics in terms of performance level. The findings of the study revealed that the joyful scaffold in teaching is more effective in improving the students’ Mathematics performance as compared to the traditional scaffold in teaching and the skills acquired is sufficient enough to prove that these experimental group of students was able to gain experience from joyful approach and a positive change of attitude towards their view on Mathematics was realized after the exposure. The cognitive progression was deepen and attainment of knowledge was enhanced, psychomotor skills were activated and augmented through enjoyable mathematics learning activities, and students’ interests and learning manners were maximized. Furthermore, the joyful scaffold in teaching in this study was immensely efficient in improving the students’ Mathematics performance as compared to the traditional scaffold in teaching. Moreover, the outcome of this research supports the assertion that employing, relating, or incorporating several joyful media to learning boosted up students’ academic performance especially those who are detached during the classroom discussion.

English is a basic prerequisite for people to achieve accomplishments in various fields. In today’s age, students are well-diverse in eclectic mechanisms to enhance one’s English skills. The 21st century learners have embraced the new way of acquiring skills through the combination of internet sources and mobile applications. This research was done at the Advance Institute of Technology (AIT) to assess the efficacy of smartphone pronunciation in oral communication for 10 English. For the control and experimental classes, a quasi-experimental design was used. There were 42 students as subjects in the study. The students answered a twenty-five (25) item oral production questionnaire as a research instrument. Using the required statistical instrument, based on the result of the analysis, the control group had a very good performance on the pretest while a bigger proportion of the experimental group also performs the same while there was one who performed excellently. Hence, with today’s young learners who are digital savvy, oral literary skills are best improved when English teachers make use of the most utilized and enjoyed simulations for visual and auditory to enhance pronunciation skill development.

Abstract Background: Medical terminology is usually difficult for students to memorize such long and unfamiliar sound words. It really makes challenging for healthcare students. Ordinarily, there’re a variety of ways to learn medical terminology such as memorizing root words or making flashcards. However, students often get half the results with double the effort. Methods: In order to help students learn medical terminology more easily and interestingly, an online chatbot, Termbot, has been produced in this research that aims to provide learners with an interesting method to enhance their medical terminology by using Termbot on the online platform ©LINE at any time. Compared to traditional independent learning with online interactive learning, the Termbot is a great tool for students in memorizing English medical terminology by playing the Termbot online crossword puzzles. In this study, the experimental method is used to check whether Termbot affects students’ academic performance in learning medical terminology. Also, the experimental samples are divided into the experimental group and the control group. As the name implies, the experimental group is the group that accepts experimental operations, while the control group does not accept any experimental operations so that the researcher could compare the differences between the two groups to show the results of the experimental operations.Results: The interaction between students and Termbot via Line, students can use the online crossword puzzles provided by Termbot to help improve their learning of medical terminology. The experimental result in this study has shown that students trained with Termbot have made significant progress in learning such long medical term words. In addition, the result has also shown that the online Termbot has the potential to improve the learning process and learning outcomes.Conclusions: As students change their learning behaviors, the use of Termbot has improved their learning effectiveness, which clearly proves that it is a very useful learning tool. Without a doubt, Termbot is not only a great help for students’ learning medical terminology but can also be used to assist word learning in other fields.Trial registration: Not applicable.

Teachers have to support flunked English majors emotionally, academically and use creative methods to improve their academic performance. The present research examined the effect of self-efficacy and outcomes expectancy on improving the performance of flunking English majors at Shaqra&rsquo; University. The instruments required for the research were a follow-up interview, pre-posttests and a questionnaire of self-efficacy and outcomes expectancy. The sample size was thirty of flunking English major students. The research compared eight techniques to enhance self-efficacy and outcomes expectancy to regular method. To test the hypotheses, data were collected and statistically analyzed. The results showed that there was no significance difference between the control group and experimental related to regular method in the pre-tests, whereas there was a difference in the post-tests in favor of the experimental group attributed to the treatment. The findings of the questionnaire proved that students&#39; perception of self-efficacy and outcome expectancy were crucial to enhance students&#39; academic performance. The research suggested further investigations to examine the effect of self-efficacy and outcome expectancy on enhancing language oral and written skills.

Despite the general agreement that the interdisciplinary model of physical education (PE), based on the incorporation of core academic subjects into the PE curriculum, stimulates the holistic development of students, there is still a lack of methods for its implementation. Therefore, Eduball was created, i.e., a method that uses educational balls with printed letters, numbers, and other signs. Numerous studies have shown that children participating in activities with Eduballs can develop their physical fitness while simultaneously improving their academic performance, particularly in math and language, including some writing skills. However, little is known about the effects of Eduball on children’s graphomotor skills, which are key for the academic performance of students throughout the entire schooling process. Here, we investigate whether 6-month participation in PE with Eduball stimulates graphomotor skills in primary school students, such as drawing prehandwriting letter patterns on unlined or lined paper and rewriting text on unlined or lined paper. Our results show that the Eduball class (N= 28) significantly improved these skills compared to the control class (N= 26) participating in traditional PE. For example, students from the experimental group wrote with a lower pen pressure and better stability of the line, in contrast to those from the control group. Therefore, this study demonstrates that the Eduball method successfully supports teachers in developing graphomotor skills in children. More broadly, our findings make clear once again that there is the need to integrate physical and cognitive development in education, which can be achieved by using an interdisciplinary model of PE.

Motivating students to do well in courses that fail to interest them can be challenging. The current study was designed to assess the potential impact of priming motivational media on academic performance. Students in six sections of introductory psychology courses (n = 128) completed a quiz after watching a 4 minute inspirational video (experimental group, n = 63), or without watching the video (control group, n = 65). The video selected showed scenes of individuals pushing their limits in all aspects of life and a commentary of a motivational commencement speech by Arnold Schwarzenegger given to college graduates. After completing the quiz participants were given a survey with questions pertaining to their motivation, positive and negative emotions, demographics, and their reactions to the video. Students who were primed by the video reported greater academic motivation and planned to study more for the next quiz than students who did not watch the video. Females reported lower GPA and lower positive emotions in the experimental condition. While there was not an overall effect of the video on quiz scores, male students who watched the video performed 10% better on the quiz than males in the control condition. Implications of these findings suggest that motivational information may be beneficial in inspiring academic performance in certain circumstances.
