Effect of coloring on student stress levels

The use of coloring as a form of therapy is relatively new and therefore there is limited research surrounding the topic. This study looked to increase the knowledge base surrounding this topic to better educate those who may find it useful, such as students, educators, or therapists. This study recruited participants aged 18-21 who were full time students at university living away from home. They were asked to complete a self-assessment of their stress levels before and after their participation in a stress induction procedure, as well as after participating in their assigned intervention for 20 minutes. There were three assigned treatments: mandala coloring, traditional coloring, and the control group. This study found statistically significant results supporting the mandala coloring group as an effective intervention for stress reduction. Although only the mandala pattern displayed statistically significant stress reduction, the traditional coloring pattern was able to provide some stress reduction to participants. The control group who sat passively for 20 minutes reported higher stress scores at the end of the study when compared to their initial baseline scores. The findings confirm that coloring is an effective form of therapy when it comes to reducing stress in the university student population.

Stress is the body's reaction to the environment that is considered dangerous. Metabolism and blood circulation become disturbed if the psychiatric feel depressed which can cause illness. This study aims to determine the effect of therapy of the Qur'anic verses on reducing stress levels in nursing students in completing their thesis at the Muslim University of Indonesia. This type of research uses a quasi-experimental with one group pre-post design on 18 respondents using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used a questionnaire. The statistical test of the paired sample test shows the value of p = 0.042 with ? = 0.05. The results showed that the stress level of students compiling their thesis at the Muslim University of Indonesia decreased from 88.9% to 66.7% after being given therapy for the Qur'anic verses. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of the therapy of Qur'anic verses on reducing stress levels in nursing students in completing theses at Muslim University of Indonesia and there are differences in student stress levels in preparing theses at Indonesian Muslim University before and after receiving verse therapy.

Objective. To determine the effect of six weeks of yoga and meditation on medical students’ levels of perceived stress and sense of wellbeing prior to taking their exams. Methods. We conducted a prospective case-control study of first-through-third-year medical students at our academic institution, measuring levels of perceived stress and sense of wellbeing before and after a six-week yoga and meditation intervention. Questionnaires used for evaluation included the perceived stress scale (PSS) and self-assessment surveys (SAS). The postintervention surveys were completed on the day of the students’ written exams. Results. A total of thirteen women and fourteen men participated. Median age was 28 (24 yrs–32 yrs). 48.1% were Caucasian, 7.4% Black, 11.1% Hispanic, 11.1% Asian, and 22.2% other. Paired t-tests showed a statistically significant reduction in perceived stress (18.44 versus 14.52; p=0.004) after the six-week yoga and meditation program. After the yoga intervention, self-assessment survey results showed a significant improvement in feelings of peace, focus, and endurance. Improvements in happiness, positivity, personal satisfaction, and self-confidence were also seen. An improvement in unsubstantiated parameters such as patience and fatigue was observed. Conclusion. Yoga and meditation may be effective in reducing stress levels and improving aspects of personal wellbeing in medical students.

Mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) are a recognized effective psychological practice characterized by attention control, awareness, acceptance, non-reactivity, and non-judgmental thinking obtained through the practice of meditation. They have been shown to be useful in reducing stress and enhancing well-being in different contexts. In this research, the effectiveness of an MBI was evaluated on variables that can promote successful job performance such as mindfulness trait, positive and negative affect, forgiveness, personality strengths and satisfaction with life. The intervention was carried out through a smartphone application called “Aire Fresco” (Fresh Air) during 14 days in the middle of the quarantine produced by the Covid-19 pandemic. The study sample was composed of 164 Spanish people who were distributed in two groups: control group and experimental group, which were evaluated before and after the intervention. The MANCOVA performed showed an overall positive effect of the intervention on the variables evaluated. The different ANCOVAs carried out showed that the intervention was beneficial in increasing mindfulness trait, reducing negative affect or increasing life satisfaction, among others. Our study is, as far as we know, the first to demonstrate the effectiveness of a brief intervention in mindfulness conducted using a smartphone application in Spanish.

AIMS: randomized clinical trial aimed at evaluating the auriculotherapy in reducing stress levels in 75 nursing professionals and analyze the coping domains that have changed after treatment. METHODOLOGY: volunteers were divided into 3 groups (Control, Needles and Seeds) and received eight sessions at Shenmen, Kidney and Brainstem points. The Control Group didn't receive any intervention. RESULTS: ANOVA test showed statistical differences in stress levels for Needle/Control Groups in the third and fourth assessments, according to Stress Symptoms List when compared the three groups in four assessments. For the Inventory of Folkman/Lazarus, a significant difference was obtained for Spacing domain between needle/control. In analysis within the same group, differences were found for Confrontation in fourth assessment between Needle/Control Groups and for Social Support in the third one between Seeds/Control Groups. CONCLUSION: The auriculotherapy decreased stress levels, changed Coping domains after treatment, suggesting that both Auriculotherapy with needles and seeds can produce positive impact to improve strategy Coping in the nursing team. However, more studies are needed to conceive the extent of the technique.

Stress is an individual's adaptive response to various external pressures or demands and produces a variety of disorders including physical, emotional and behavioral disorders. Final year students often experience feelings of stress so that it can interfere with concentration to attend lectures and can even hamper completing education in a timely manner. There are several ways of managing stress, one of which is using aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is a non-pharmacological therapy, which is a type of therapy that applies direct body contact and has a therapeutic effect that combines physiological effects, caused by massage on the body, with psychological effects, which are derived from essential oils. The general purpose of the study is to analyze the effect of aromatherapy on blood pressure and stress levels by using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale in final semester students. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design approach, in 28 intervention groups, namely respondents who were given lavender aromatherapy massage and 28 respondents in the control group. The univariate analysis was conducted to show frequency distribution and bivariate analysis was conducted by independent sample T-test and dependent sample T-test. The results showed that there were significant differences in systolic blood pressure before and after the intervention in the intervention and the control group with a p-value of 0.01 < 0.05. Whereas the stress level variable found that there is no difference in stress levels in the intervention and the control group before and after the intervention with p-value 0.169> 0.05.

 Background: Stress is traditionally defined as either a bodily or mental tension resulting from factors that tend to alter an existent equilibrium or the process of appraising events of assessing potential responses, and of responses which may include not just physiological but also cognitive and behavioural changes. Aims and Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the stress reduction after listening to Phochong chanting. Materials and Methods: Forty participants were participated in this study. They were divided into two groups; the control group who saw a spot on computer screen while listening to Phochong chanting for 10 minutes, and the target group who saw the Buddha image while listening to Phochong chanting for 10 minutes. The Thai Stress Test was used as a tool to examine the stress reduction. Frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used for descriptive data analysis. Paired sample t-test was also used to compare between before and after listening to Phochong chanting. Results: The percentage of participants in the target group who felt ‘excellent mental health’ was 20.0% and only 10% for the control one. The 55.0% in the target group felt ‘normal mental health’ while 45.0% was for the control one. About 25.0% of the target group felt ‘mild stress’ while 45.0% was in the control one. However, no participant showed ‘sever stress (stressful)’ in this study. The Thai Stress Test has adequate reliability, adequate construct validity, and sufficient discriminant power. Conclusion: By listening to Phochong chanting would help the stress level reduction.

The baby was ill and hospitalized has plenty of noisy environment stressor, painful and uncomfortable. The condition can cause a crisis caused by changes in the environment.. The purpose of this research was to prove the influence of baby massage in reducing levels of cortisol and increases the quantity of baby having hospitalisasi in the 2nd floor Marwah RSU Haji Surabaya. This type of research is experimental pre-test and post test control group design. Sampelnya are some babies with diarrhea hospitalized at Room 2nd floor Marwah RSU Haji Surabaya in may 2013 with a total of 20 respondents (10 respondents as a group treatment and 10 respondents as the control group). Baby massage is performed by therapists in the treatment group. Data collection using the observation sheet. The t-test analysis bivariat use to prove there are differences in the levels of cortisol and quantity of baby massage is performed before and after the babies with 5% significance (α = 0.05). The results showed that cortisol saliva on the Group's treatment has decreased significantly. T test shows p = 0.01, meaning there's a baby massage influences on salivary cortisol levels decrease in the Group's treatment and test t to quantity of sleep baby shows p = 0,004, which means there is influence on increasing the quantity of baby massage beds from babies who are having hospitalisasi in the 2nd floor Marwah RSU Haji Surabaya. The conclusions of this research shows that massage the baby effect in lowering the levels of cortisol and increases the quantity of baby having hospitalisasi in the 2nd floor Marwah RSU Haji Surabaya. More research needs to be developed to make baby massage model appropriate and effective in reducing stress of infants who experience hospitalisasi.

In Latvia the Civil Defence course is a compulsory course for all higher education study programs. The aim of the study was to find out the attitude of the students of pedagogy specialties of the University of Latvia towards the Civil Defence course, to study the students' self-assessment of understanding the most important topics of the Civil Defence course and the most important insights learned by students during acquiring the Civil Defence course. To find out the attitude of the pedagogical specialties students towards the Civil Defence course, a questionnaire of the first-year students was carried out after the acquisition of the course. The responses of full-time and part-time students were compared. The results of the questionnaire showed that the majority of the surveyed students have understood the importance of the Civil Defence course and they consider that this course is necessary for all study programs. After completing the course, most students have understood the most important topics of the Civil Defence course. The majority of surveyed students consider that topics related to national defence should be included in the Civil Defence course. As the most interesting topics students have found first aid, disasters and their classification and disaster management. Students believe that Civil Defence knowledge is needed for being aware of how to deal with emergencies, if necessary, to be able to provide first aid and for better understanding of the functioning of the civil defence system in Latvia. Students see an opportunity to combine the acquiring of Civil Defence course with the mastering of another study course.

Background The learning process of physiological mechanisms of childbirth and its management are important elements in the education of medical students. In this study, we verify how the use of a high-fidelity simulator of childbirth improves competence of students in this regard.Methods A total of 132 medical students were recruited for the study in order to attend a physiological childbirth in a no-hospital environment after being assigned to two groups. The control group received only a normal cycle of lectures, while the simulation (SIM) group followed a specific training session on the simulator. Subsequently, both groups were assessed for their technical and non-technical skills in a simulated childbirth. Also, a self-assessment test regarding their self-confidence was administrated before and after simulation, and repeated after 8 weeks.Results The SIM group showed better performance in all the domains with a better comprehension of the mechanisms of childbirth, managing and assistance of labour and delivery. In addition, compared to the control group, they presented a better self-related awareness and self-assurance regarding the possibility of facing a birth by themselves.Conclusion The present study demonstrated that the use of a high-fidelity simulator for medical students allows a significant improvement in the acquisition of theoretical and technical expertise to assist a physiological birth.

ObjectiveThe main objective of the present study is to investigate effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction in anxiety and depression in patients with multiple sclerosis.MethodsThis study is in kind of semi-experimental research in form of pretest–posttest pattern with control group. Statistical population of the study consists of all patients with multiple sclerosis referred to Iran MS Association by 2016. Sampling method in this study is available sampling and based on having inclusion criteria. Among depressed and anxiety patients 30 individuals were selected randomly and were classified in two groups with 15 people in each group. Experimental group was under mindfulness-based training on stress reduction for 8 sessions. Control group was also in waiting list. All patients in experimental and control groups fulfilled depression and anxiety inventories before and after intervention. Obtained data was analyzed using MANCOVA and in SPSS22 software.FindingObtained results show that there is significant difference between the two groups in terms of anxiety and depression after intervention (P < 0.001).ConclusionMindfulness-based stress reduction can help reduction of symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients with MS.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.
