Language matters. Response to the reply of Van Lieshout et al., ‘Action research in lifestyle research is no sinecure’ In our response we further clarified how we interpreted and applied the contextuality, participation and reflexivity principles of action research. We also further explained our suggestions to adapt the framework/research cycle and how we understood the various terms used in the framework. As could be expected from a cultural perspective, language is not neutral and depends on the various authors’ context and frame of reference.

Theform of this research is classroom action research, with 22 subjects consisting of 10 men and 12 women. Basedon the results of the research cycle I the percentage of teacher activity amounted to 54.1% with sufficientcategories and increased in the second meeting to 62.5% with good categories. In the second cycle of the firstmeeting the percentage of teacher activity was 70.8% in the good category and at the second meeting increasedto 83.3% in the very good category. student activity by 50% with less categories and at the second meetingincreased to 58.3% with enough categories. In the second cycle the first meeting the percentage of studentactivity was 75% in the good category and increased in the second meeting to 87.5% in the very good category.student learning outcomes in the basic score of the presentation was 40.9%, after repeated daily cycle Iincreased to 63.6% and again increased in cycle II to 86.3%. Departing from the results of this action it can beconcluded that the application of cooperative learning model type example non examples can improve thelearning outcomes of Natural Sciences class V SDN 003 Beringin Teluk.

This research is a classroom action research that includes activities with stages of planning, action, observation and reflection. The results showed that the increase in social studies learning outcomes of class VI students, the average classical completeness before class action research was 75% in the first cycle of 82.14% and in the second cycle it was 92.85%. Scientific performance learning outcomes before class action research is 65.36%, and scientific performance learning outcomes after class action research cycle I is 72.76% increased by 7.4%, and scientific performance learning outcomes after class II cycle action research is 73.17% also increased by 0.41% from cycle I. The occurrence of increased learning outcomes of scientific performance also affects student learning outcomes. Based on the results of classroom action research, it can be concluded that using video media can improve social studies learning outcomes. Grade VI students of SDN 004 Teratak Buluh.

Exploring and Promoting Ecological Consciousness in Teacher Education: the Possibilities of Educational Action Research in Education for Sustainable DevelopmentThe paper reports on the findings of a qualitative study with 39 first year students of pre-school and primary school teacher education programmes who are taking an educational action research based study course "Environmental Pedagogy". The study aimed at engaging the students in reflection on their experiences of interaction with nature and uncovering their views on ecological consciousness. Qualitative content analysis sought emergent themes in students' reflections. A conceptual framework was identified containing three frames of reference: (1) inclusion-oriented frame of reference; (2) exclusion-determining frame of reference and (3) solution-oriented frame of reference. Conclusions were drawn about the possibilities of educational action research to encourage students' reflection on ecological consciousness and building sustainable and inclusive relationships with the world.

The purpose of this research is to describe the application of the talking stick learning model and the improvement of writing skills. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (PTK). The research subjects were fourth grade students of SDN Tegalasri 4, Wlingi District, Blitar Regency. The results of the research cycle I meeting 1 an average of 66 with a percentage of 45% completeness of the 29 students, meeting 2 an average of 67 with a percentage of 52% completeness. Cycle II meeting 1 total 2218 average 76 69%, Meeting 2 average 82 with percentage completeness 83%. The conclusion is that the talking stick learning model is able to improve the writing skills of a hero character description while also motivating students to learn to write and can stimulate students' creativity in expressing ideas.

Recurring organizational communication problems, lack of communication between superiors and subordinates, and also conflict at the employee level make the basis for researchers to conduct research and try to provide recommendations to improve conditions that occur in the Balittas organization. This study will focus on quality of relationships between superiors and subordinates as well as colleagues in organization. This study aims to describe and analyze the quality of the relationship between superiors and subordinates. This research was conducted using the Action Research method with the aim of being in Balittas from 2010 to 2019. Departing from the constructivism paradigm, this study carried out data collection by structured interviews and analyzed using the action research cycle from Coghland & Brannick. The quality of the relationship between superiors and subordinates, between colleagues for each period of each leader based on the LMX theory is dominated by the quality of the out group. This is because the relationship is only a contractual one. Subsequent research can develop the application of LMX theory in other government work units and create efforts to build quality in group relationships within Balittas. Based on LMX theory (low relationship quality) because the exchange of behavior of organizational members is limited to contractual ties and the low level of support and trust in each other.

The current study adopts a mixed-method research design to foster English Language instructors’ attitude toward professional development, self-efficacy beliefs, and reflective thinking. Vygotsky's sociocultural theory constituted the base and the professional development program was designed accordingly. The participants of the study were nine English Language instructors working at three different universities. Throughout the 16-week program, it was aimed to equip the participants with action research skills to conduct their own study in their own context according to their needs and/or interests. All the participants completed the Plan, Act, Observe, and Reflect stages of the Action Research Cycle.

Publishing with friends is the account of an action research cycle in which a print-on-demand Web site, Lulu.com, became a classroom for second and third year digital photography students to publish their photobooks. Building on the earlier use of a blogging platform as a personal learning environment, this narrative explores the pedagogical prospects of the read/write Web, and illustrates the way in which students use social networks for creative produsage (Bruns, 2008). Students were positive about the pedagogical approach, and the opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience in their chosen field of study.

Mixed methods research has the capacity to intersect with other approaches, such as action research, by adding a solid methodological foundation and creating an integrated approach for addressing complex practical problems. Conceptual, philosophical, and procedural similarities between mixed methods and action research make integration possible and justifiable. Combining the two approaches can produce more scientifically sound and transferable results by synergistically integrating qualitative stakeholder engagement with quantitative outcomes to inform action/intervention planning, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring. We describe similarities between the two approaches, discuss advantages of applying mixed methods in action research, and illustrate applications using a methodological framework that captures their synergistic combination. Using this framework, we describe how two studies employed mixed methods in various phases of the action research cycle.

AbstractDespite the increasing importance of, and interest in, documenting the impact of environmental education programs on students' learning for sustainability, few tools are currently available to measure young students' environmental learning across all the dimensions of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours. This paper reports on the development of such a tool, using an iterative action research process with 134 students, aged six to eleven, attending programs at an Environmental Education Centre in Queensland, Australia. The resulting instrument, the Environmental Learning Outcomes Survey (ELOS) incorporates observations of students' engagement in learning processes as well as measuring learning outcomes, and allows both of these aspects to be linked to particular components of the environmental education program. Test data using the instrument are reported to illustrate its potential usefulness. It is envisaged that the refined instrument (appended) will enable researchers to measure student environmental learning in the field, investigate environmental education program impacts and identify aspects of programs that are most effective in facilitating student learning.
